A Designer’s Eye: Property from Juan Montoya October 4
Doyle is pleased to present the landmark sale of furniture, decorations and art from the collection of the visionary designer, Juan Montoya, known for his transformative contributions to the world of contemporary art and design.
Born in Bogotá, Colombia, Montoya’s early fascination with the intersection of art, technology, and culture laid the foundation for his remarkable career. With a keen eye for blending diverse influences, Montoya has redefined the possibilities of design, creating spaces that not only inspire but also challenge traditional norms. After studying architecture in Bogotá, he moved to New York where he graduated from Parsons School of Design. Following two years of work and study in Paris and Milan, he returned to New York, where he founded the design business he has presided over since.
Montoya’s artistic journey has been marked by his fearless pursuit of innovative concepts that blur the lines between disciplines. His works challenge preconceived notions of design, inviting audiences to reconsider their environments and interactions with space. Through his groundbreaking creations, Montoya continues to inspire both established and emerging artists to embrace experimentation, diversity, and the limitless potential of creativity.

‘80s NYC / Prints & Multiples
November 1
New York City of the 1980s was ground zero for several new artistic movements that revitalized the city and marked a new period in Contemporary arts and culture. From the countless new galleries springing up in Soho, to the music and performances taking place at CBGB’s, Max’s Kansas City, the Mudd Club and more, as well as the political stances of groups like the Guerrilla Girls and ACT UP, New York in the 1980s saw new art blossoming throughout the city. Auctions at Doyle regularly drew artists-as-collectors, ranging from Pop superstar Andy Warhol to a then-unknown Martin Wong.
Collectives like Colab Projects were using alternative spaces to launch innovative new exhibitions, while Graffiti art was simultaneously showing not only in the subways, but also in new spaces like Fun Gallery and venerated galleries like Sidney Janis. Publications like the Village Voice and the East Village Eye documented the evolving intersection of New Wave, No Wave, Punk Rock, Rap and Hip Hop, independent film and performance art, as well as a cacophony of art movements such as Neo-Expressionism, Pop Art, Pictures Generation, Minimalism and more.
Doyle will host a new auction focused on the art and artists of New York in the 1980s on Wednesday, November 1 showcasing paintings, drawings, sculpture, prints, multiples, photography and ephemera by such artists as Jean-Michel Basquiat, Keith Haring, Andy Warhol and more.
