ASD
An atrial septal defects(ASD) is a type of Congenital heart defect.

Defect present in the structure of heart at the time of birth
What is asd? An ASD is referred to as a hole formed in the septum that lies between right and left atria.
ASD -The three major types 1) Secundum –Most common type of ASD and occurs in the middle of arterial septum. These ASDs close on their own and would not
if the defect is large.
2) Primum – it is not a common one and occurs in the
lower part of the atrial
septum. They don't close on their own. 3) Sinus venosus - Occurs in the upper part of the atrial septum near the superior vena cava(large vein ). These are rare, and they don't close on their own.
ASD symptoms in adults • Shortness of breath • Tiring easily, especially after activity • Swelling of legs, feet or abdomen • Heart palpitations or skipped beats
ASD symptoms in babies
• poor appetite • poor growth • fatigue • shortness of breath • lung problems and infections, such as pneumonia
TREATMENT FOR ASD 1) Treatment by closure device 2)heart surgery

If not treated problems mainly start at the age of 30 1)Right heart failure. 2)Arrhythmias – irregular heart beats 3)Stroke. 4)Pulmonary hypertension – increased pressure in the pulmonary arteries
