WELCOME Please join us for an exciting sale featuring an impressive lineup of vintage cars that have not been offered for sale in decades. Our October sale features many fine automobiles, many at no reserve, and gives our clients the opportunity of experiencing our unique event in the center of the fine coastal New England town of Westport, Connecticut. In this catalog, My dad, Manny, my uncle, George, and I proudly offer many cars that have been out of the public eye for the last forty years including; the 1967 Exemplar 1 Concept car by Carrozziere Coggiolla, a 1924 24/100/140 Supercharged Mercedes with custom Fleetwood Sport Touring coachwork, and a custom 1935 Ford Spyder by Carrozzeria Viotti of Torino, Italy. We are very proud of the significant consignments that we have put together for our 2nd annual October Fall Auction. As we continue to hold our auctions we continue to outdo ourselves in every auction getting better and more significant cars each time. Because the quality and quantity of cars that our auctions are now generating we are now able to present two auctions a year without compromising the quality of the vehicles presented or the one on one personal attention that we provide and is expected from our events. Our auctions would not be possible without the unyielding support of many of our great clients, friends, family and of course the magnificent Dragone team who we could not do without. We invite you to our facility in Westport and look forward to greeting you and sharing this fantastic lineup of significant cars with you. Sincerely,

Alex Dragone

1962 FORD THUNDERBIRD

Car Highlights • Retrofitted “Faux” Roadster • Finished in Corinthian White • 390 Cubic-Inch V-8

Estimate: $18,000 - $25,000 No Reserve

When Ford introduced the new Thunderbird in 1955, no one could have guessed that it would outsell its rival the Chevrolet Corvette by a wide margin. Billed more as a personal luxury car than a sports car, the Thunderbird had it all. Unique styling, comfortable seating with a hint of indulgence and power to spare from a V-8 engine turned out to be just what the motoring public was looking for. The Thunderbird remained a popular car, but in 1958 it parted ways with its rival Corvette and became a four-seater. Indeed, the allnew T-Bird for 1958 was a fabulous looking car that everyone loved. In 1961, Ford introduced their third generation of the Thunderbird will an all-new look that was fabulous. The motoring public took to it immediately with 73,051 sold for the year. With so much success, the Thunderbird was carried over into 1962 with very little changes and several performance packages were also offered. The third generation of the Thunderbird lasted only three years and a new design was introduced in 1964. Featured here is a beautiful example of the third generation, a faux 1962 Thunderbird Roadster finished in Corinthian White and a white interior. This Thunderbird has been retrofitted with the Roadster package and features the rear seat Tonneau cover and

simulated wire wheels. Sitting inside the 1962 T-Bird is like sitting inside the cockpit of a jet with its huge center console that extends all the way to the rear seat and deep inset gauges that gives the driver a “Buck Rogers” feel. A futuristic steering wheel completes the look and nicely complements its jet-inspired design. Power for the Thunderbird comes from a 390 cubic-inch V-8 that easily propels this large car at modern highway speeds with ease. For the very best in early 1960s motoring, the Thunderbird clearly had it all. The personal luxury car market has always been a rather special niche in the car market, but the Thunderbird is the car that literally wrote the book on it. While the Corvette may have remained true to its sports car roots, the Thunderbird went on to appeal to a wider audience and became one of America’s best cars. Prospective buyers should look this one over closely, for top down motoring on a fine summer day doesn’t get any better than a 1962 Thunderbird convertible.

1921 STUDEBAKER TOURING

Chassis # 1027295 Car Highlights • Studebaker Reliability • Solid Car • Great for Nickel Era Touring Events • Powerful 6 Cylinder Engine

Estimate: $10,000 - $15,000

T

he roots of Studebaker go all the way back to the carriage when they were one of the nation’s largest builders of horse-pulled vehicles. Their vast knowledge of suspension systems, axle design, and sturdy construction helped them move easily into motorcar production. Their first car came in 1902 and was an electric. Business took off from there and Studebaker was soon selling thousands of cars and trucks. Gas powered cars soon followed and the company was now offering a car for every purpose. By 1920 Studebaker had become the nation’s fourth largest car builder and they also built their last horse drawn carriage that year. Studebaker was now a firmly established marque that would go on to build cars for many more decades.

Offered here is a specular example of the early years for Studebaker, a 1921 Light Six Touring car finished in gleaming red with black fenders. The Light Six was an all-new design for Studebaker with a square opening in the color keyed radiator shell and a Studebaker badge on top. This one rides on wood spoke artillery wheels complete with white wall tires. The interior is finished in black leather and rear seating is large and comfortable as only a touring car could be. Power comes from a 207 cubic-inch inline six that offers 40 horsepower. This Studebaker was restored some years ago and has since held up very well. The unique charm of the early motorcar comes alive in this wonderful Studebaker Light Six Touring car. It offers the charm of open air touring while also carrying the reliable Studebaker name. Collectors of early American cars will have a grand time plying the back country roads in this wonderful page from Studebaker’s history.

1932 PLYMOUTH PB ROADSTER

Engine # PB47360 Car Highlights • Solid Car with a Nice Restoration • Two Tone Cream and Burgundy • Reliable Plymouth Four Cylinder Power • Synchronized second and third gears

Estimate: $35,000 - $45,000

A

merica was on hard times in 1932 as the country waited out the effects of the Great Depression. There were still many luxury car builders, but the coming years would claim many of them. Of course, the medium and lower priced cars still had a tough time in the show room, but there were still a few sedans and coupes that managed to find new buyers. In particular, Plymouth had a firm grasp on the lower end of the market with cars that were reliable and priced just right. Indeed Plymouth’s two-door sedan sold for just $575, but for just $20 more a prospective buyer could move up to the Sport Roadster with a fabulous rumble seat. Excellent styling, just the right amount of chrome, and reliable Plymouth power all came together in the 1932 PB Roadster.

The PB Roadster offered here is a charming artifact from Plymouth’s past that’s finished in a lovely tan with contrasting maroon fenders and wire wheels with wide white wall tires. It also features a raised cowl and a low profile windshield. The interior is finished in rich red leather that offers comfort while enjoying the open air motoring experience. Plymouth’s PB cars were loaded with engineering innovations that were way ahead of their time with “Floating Power” engine mounts that greatly reduced vibration, full-pressure lubrication, aluminum alloy pistons, and Freewheeling for highway cruising. Shifting was also easy thanks to synchromesh gears in both second and third. The heart of this charming roadster in the tried and proven 196 cubic-inch inline four rated at 65 horsepower. Plymouth advertised their PB as having “the smoothness of an eight, with the economy of a four.”

he Bentley name needs no introduction in the arena of worldclass competition cars. From the very first “Blowers” built by W.O. himself to the ultra-modern Speed Eight, the Bentley name has stood for performance and excellence in engineering for many years. Fast cars have always been a hallmark in the Bentley lexicon, but that speed and power also features a degree of luxury that very few cars can compare to. 1949 PACKARD STATION WAGON

Chassis # 229395564 Car Highlights • Excellent Preservation Car • Packard Power and Reliability • Original Wood

Estimate: $50,000 - $60,000

T

he use of real wood on a car body was something that the industry strongly relied on at the start, but by the late 1930s structural steel had taken over and real wood had been relegated to decorative use both on the inside and out. Always on the cutting edge of newer technology, Packard’s beautiful Standard Eight Wagon for 1949 featured fine Birch wood over a steel body that made for a durable car. While mostly decorative on the body, the entire tailgate for Packard’s wagon was fully constructed of wood. The beauty of real wood combined with Packard’s excellent engineering made for a car that was at home at the hardware store or the country club. Packard’s wagons were not cheap either as it took $3,449 dollars to put one in the driveway. Although the mighty Packard Company was entering its final years, their fine line of cars for 1949 was as good as anything rival Cadillac had to offer.

Featured here is a true survivor from this unique chapter in automotive history as it represents a page in the “crossover” from an all-wood structural design to a rigid steel body that was solid and durable. Its body trim appointments consist of Northern Birch and make for a dashing display of class and elegance. This Packard is a remarkable time machine that represents authenticity as it is an original preservation car. It’s has been incredibly well cared for and drives today just as a Packard should. Styling is classic postwar Packard with beautifully rounded lines that are nicely accented by its Birch trim around the body. On the inside the fine upholstery clearly displays the care that this wagon has received throughout the years. The dashboard features jewel like instrumentation and a Denoc wood grain applique that’s pure 1940s. Power for this wagon comes from Packard’s tried and proven 288 cubic-inch inline L-head eight with 130 horsepower. The Packard name is proudly displayed on this superb preservation wagon that’s the perfect car for family outings. For the true pleasure of owning one of Packard’s best in an amazing original car, this Standard Eight Woody Wagon represents a unique opportunity for any collector of fine motorcars.

1963 TRIUMPH TR-3B

Chassis # TCF2701L Car Highlights • Excellent Restoration • Rare TR3-B • Classic British Sports Car Styling • Chrome wire wheels and Tonneau cover

Estimate: $25,000 - $35,000 No Reserve

T

he Triumph TR3 is a classic roadster in every sense of the word. Long body lines and sports car handling characteristics are just a few of the attributes that the TR3 is known for. Produced from 1955 to 1963, the TR3 had several variants and all were all stellar performers both on and off the track. Power for the TR3 came from a 1991 cc inline overhead valve engine rated at 95 horsepower, quite an impressive figure for a small sports car. A manual four-speed gearbox gave the TR3 an authentic sports car feel and suspension featuring double A-arms with coil springs and tube shock absorbers offered great handling both on the track and the open road. Offered here is an excellent example of the Triumph legacy, a one year only 1963 TR3B finished in traditional black with a red interior. The Triumph TR3B was a shortlived production run built by the company in 1963. The TR3B name is actually an unofficial designation as it was offered in parallel with the TR4. This was done in order to ease Triumph’s customers into the new TR4 as smoothly as possible. The looks and style of the TR3B were similar to the TR3A, but the TR3B had a TR4 engine transforming the TR3 into a true sports car. This example is in outstanding condition and feature all of the fine Triumph attributes including wing windows and wire

wheels. The interior is superbly finished and getting behind the wheel of this TR3B is an experience that represents the true thrill of a sports car. Under the hood is Triumph’s 2138 cc push-rod rated at 105 horsepower, more than enough for spirited performance driving. The overall look and appearance of this rare TR3B makes it an impressive car from any angle. The TR3 has always been known for great performance and this TR3B takes it to the next level. Classic British roadsters are always a hit at car shows and what other car can offer such open-air fun on a summer day? The TR3 is a sports car that is both historically significant yet reliable enough for everyday driving. The TR3 is the car that put Triumph on the map as it solidified the company’s place as builder of great sports cars. This rare example of the TR3 heritage would make a wonderful addition to any collection and is also immediately ready for both show and go.

tyling for a standard production car in the U.S. before the mid-1920s was little more than an afterthought. Henry Leland found this out the hard way in 1920 when he introduced the car named after his favorite American president, Lincoln. While Leland’s mechanical genius was clearly evident in the Lincolns reliability, its styling was about as appealing as a visit to the dentist. It was only when Henry Ford snapped up Lincoln in 1922 that things began to change. With lessons learned from observation, Cadillac did not want to make the same mistake when introducing their new companion car called the La Salle in 1927. They actually hired a young stylist by the name of Harley Earl to take charge of the new car. What followed completely shocked the motoring public as the beautiful lines of the La Salle were actually compared to that of the exquisite Hispano-Suiza. So it was that Detroit had finally realized that it took

more than reliability to sell a car and the American automobile had now turned a corner with beauty and style taking a front seat in the appeal of the motorcar. The LaSalle name continued alongside Cadillac for a decade and in that time they turned out some very stylish cars. Featured here is a fine LaSalle in the form of a 1938 Convertible Coupe that’s finished in a lovely cream yellow. This is a handsome car from any angle with its bullet styled headlamps, elegant Art Deco themed hood ornament, and wide white wall tires. Its body is made even more streamlined by a set of enclosed side mounted spare tires that hold its rear view mirrors. The interior is finished in fine tan leather with a dashboard that both elegant and functional. LaSalle’s fine engineering

is demonstrated by the smooth sound of its 322 cubic-inch V-8. This LaSalle wears an older restoration that has held up well and it still presents as an outstanding car. For the collector of great American cars this LaSalle is ready for show and go.

hen returning GIs from World War II came home they were more than familiar with the incredible Jeep. Built tough as nails and able to handle anything, the little Jeep had proven itself on the battlefield. After the war, Willys capitalized on this with an offering of civilian styled cars that the company hoped would be recognized by this large segment of the market. Indeed, a station wagon, a pick-up truck, and even a nifty little open phaeton called a “Jeepster” were offered. These were sturdy vehicles and many were even powered by the same “Go Devil” fourcylinder engine that powered the famous Jeep. Sales were strong and these durable utilitarian vehicles found favor with many motorists who were the early pioneers of the SUV movement. Offered here is an outstanding example of this legacy that even has enough room for the whole family. Finished in Sabre Rouge with a simulated wicker cane accents this Jeep Willys Overland Station Wagon features an outstanding restoration that has returned it to like-new condition. Nothing was overlooked in bringing this nifty family hauler from the past back to factory condition and it features unique styling with plenty of room. An immense rear cargo area and a high roofline makes for plenty of space for the family and all picnic gear.

Correct Willys Overland hub caps with wide white wall tires gives it a fashionable appearance and tastefully styled chrome grille bars at the front makes it an attractive vehicle from any angle. All brightwork on this Willys has been re-chromed for that “new-car” look. The interior is finished in a tan vinyl upholstery that gives a nice contrast to its red color. Simplicity is the hallmark of design for the Jeep wagon with a center mounted gauge cluster that neatly houses the temperature, oil pressure, amps, and fuel. Both front and rear seats feature a two/third split bench style that makes entry and exit a breeze and all oak wood accents on the flooring are new. The fully opening tailgate gives a whole new meaning to “tailgating” at the big game. Power for this wagon comes from an F-head inline fourcylinder engine that provides just enough power and excellent reliability. In the interest of modern reliability the electrical system has been upgraded to 12-volts. The SUV has become a mainstay in the world of the automobile, but long before the station wagon ruled the streets the Jeep wagon was showing everyone the future. This foundational member of the classic family hauler is ready for fun with the whole family. With its superb restoration and Willys Overland reliability, this is a wagon that’s ready for any family vacation.

he name of a product line with regard to an automobile can literally made or break its success. Names of great cars over the years easily stand out in one’s mind and also easily roll off the tongue such as California for Ferrari, Sebring for Maserati, Mustang for Ford and Eldorado for Cadillac. Studebaker’s cars for the 1935 model year held names that demanded a degree of respect that few others could. The Dictator was a car that was comparable in size to the Fords and Chevrolets of the day, but was at a higher level of quality. The Dictator was a car that was knocking on the doors of Buick and Oldsmobile and was much sportier and sleeker. The very top of Studebaker’s line for 1935 was held by the President, and as implied by the name it was a car that reigned over all others, selling for a price that was reaching into Cadillac territory. No matter what the need Studebaker had a fine line of cars to choose from as evidenced by this gorgeous Dictator roadster. One of only two 1935 Dictator Roadsters in existence, finished in red and black, this Dictator has been treated to a full restoration a few years ago that has held up very well and that has returned the car to like-new condition. The smooth Art Deco lines of this amazing car are perfectly blended on a body that is pure style in

motion. It also wears a black convertible top that is nicely accented with red piping. Riding in the rumble seat is an outright joy for rear passengers while driving up front is luxurious in deep red leather. The massive radiator, bullet headlamps, and dual trumpet horns make for an impressive arrival at any event. Accolades for this rare car include a National First Prize from the Antique Automobile Club of America. Studebaker aimed to imply the very best with the Dictator roadster and this example proves it. With its excellent restoration and attention to detail it’s a car that’s fit for any concours show field. For sheer beauty in a car that is both rare and elegant, this Studebaker Dictator will fit nicely into any collection of beautiful and uncommon motorcars.

hen Ford introduced the Mustang it was only a matter of time before Chevrolet came up with an answer. That answer came in 1967 when the Camaro made its debut as a world class pony car. It wasn’t long before big engine became optional and the Camaro was on its way to becoming one of the most powerful cars on the road. t has been said many times that the Volkswagen Beetle is perhaps the most iconic car ever made. Spanning the length of several generations, the Beetle came to represent anything from “Peace and Love” to off-road antics on the sand dunes. Introduced in 1938, the Beetle went on to become the most manufactured car on a single platform ever made, a record it still holds to this day. Indeed, no other car carried the same basic styling for as long as the Beetle did. In the present day, Volkswagen pays homage to the original design with a modern day version, but the original Beetle is always a big hit at any car show while still being fun and easy to drive. Offered here is a spectacular page from the Beetle’s history, a 1967 Convertible that’s just perfect for a sunny day. This is a rust-free and well-cared for car that has been maintained as needed and runs as good as it looks. It is a mostly original car that has recently been treated to new tires that ride on EMPI styled rims. It shifts easily with a strong clutch and also has a tuned exhaust. It’s also nicely finished in Volkswagen’s Yukon Yellow with a black convertible top. On the inside it carries the unique and simplistic charm that only a Beetle has. The seats are finished in vinyl upholstery and the signature Beetle

dashboard is both simple and elegant. This Beetle also carries a spare tire and factory jack. Mechanically the engine is a marvel of design and the signature sound from a Volkswagen air-cooled engine is unmistakable. The Volkswagen Beetle is a car that still enjoys a large following. Every year millions gather to celebrate this amazing car that lived longer than anything that has come before or since. For the collector of cars that are just plain fun without the worries of reliability or expensive parts, this wonderful little gem from the 1960s is a true window into the past.

1957 CORVETTE DUAL QUAD

here are many milestones in the history of America’s sports car, the Chevrolet Corvette. Certainly the split window of 1963 was a highpoint, and the 1990 ZR-1 was a car that managed to give Ferrari a competitive performance run. But perhaps one of Chevrolet’s most iconic corvettes was the 1957 model year. In 1957 a buyer could have chosen to have a single four barrel carburetor, dual four barrel carburetors or the fuel injected option. The dual quad option proved to be more popular than Chevrolet had planned for and it was in short supply, but still very few were made. The end result is that out of the 6,339 Corvettes built for 1957, less than half were fitted with dual quads. The fuel injected cars did have a bit more power, but ended up being more expensive to fix

and to maintain. So, in just five short years, the Corvette had gone from a six-cylinder powered road car to a high-performance and well-balanced machine that was at home on the street as well as the track.

Offered here is a spectacular example of the Corvette heritage, a 1957 finished in Onyx Black with Inca Silver side coves that is also fitted with the optional dual quad V-8 that is original to this car as well as its original four speed manual transmission. Nothing has been over looked in the restoration of this rare Corvette and it presents as a new car. Its gleaming black finish carries a mirror shine and it still retains its matching hard and soft top. Styling for the Corvette in 1957 was a carry-over from 1956 from the brilliant design work of GM stylist Bob Cadaret. New for 1957

Cadaret’s design work had also brought the Corvette up to modern standards with outside door handles and roll-up windows. All of these styling cues are nicely displayed in this splendid example that looks and performs as a Corvette should. The interior of this fine Corvette is also a marvel of authenticity with pleated red vinyl, a beautifully styled dashboard, and authentic four-speed transmission. All factory gauges are intact and perform just as they should. Slipping behind the wheel of this spectacular car gives one the power and feel of a true American legend as only the Corvette could. he decade of the 1950s was a time like no other in American car design. Long wheelbases, big engines, tons of chrome, and tailfins that reached for the stars were just a few of the attributes of the era. The decade reached its zenith in 1959 when the jet inspired automobile featured stars, rockets, and wing like appendages that took the art of the automobile to a whole new level. Cadillac had its dual rocket tailfin and Ford had a sharply cut fin that ended in two jet pods at the rear. Not to be outdone was Buick, who offered a whole new car for 1959. As Harley Earl’s swansong year, Buicks for 1959 were longer, lower, and wider. In a bold move Buick even changed all of its names; gone were the Roadmaster, Special, Super, and Century, and in was the new LaSabre, Invicta, and Electra. The all-new styling and new names proved to be just a bit overwhelming for Buick’s traditional

buyers and the company placed seventh in sales with 285,089 cars built for 1959. Offered here is a great example of Buick’s fine cars for 1959, a LaSabre finished in Artic White with a beautiful red interior. This classic cruiser from the 1950s rides on a 123-inch wheelbase and is a fully restored automobile that represents a high degree of craftsmanship in all areas. Its finish is smooth and glossy with an elegant trim spear that runs its entire length and it’s also nicely accented by a set of wire wheels with wide white wall tires. On the inside the interior presents as new and is even covered in clear plastic for protection and preservation. White accents give it a touch of class and the dashboard is straight from the jet inspired age of the 1950s with large twin instrument pods and a beautifully styled steering wheel. Power for this LaSabre comes from Buicks 364 cubic-inch “Nail head” eight in an engine compartment that is nicely detailed with correct colors. Buick’s V-8 power allows this big car to easily cruise at modern highway speeds and beyond. The classic era of fins is long gone, but this Buick LaSabre is a car that takes us back to a time when bigger was better. For the grand experience of a large American cruiser in a beautiful restoration that’s sure to turn heads, this LaSabre is a car that’s ready for the beach or the boulevard.

hen Sir William Lyons founded the Swallow Sidecar Company in 1922, he never imagined the success that the small company would have. As a builder of motorcycle side cars, a motorcar was probably the furthest thing from his mind. In 1935, the company name was changed to SS and several sports cars called the SS 90 and SS 100 were built. The SS name was dropped after World War II and the company then became known as Jaguar. A new twin cam six also appeared after the war and this spectacular engine made Jaguar a stellar performer. Jaguar’s competition efforts were nothing short of miraculous as they scored wins in the 1951, 1953, 1955, 1956, and 1957 Le Mans races. Clearly, Jaguar had solidified itself as a feared competitor on the track; a foundation it continues to this very day. In the fall of 1957, Jaguar introduced the XK150 as a competitor for the Mercedes Benz 300SL and the BMW 507. The XK150 was the third in the XK series and as such it was a highly refined design in both appearance and mechanics. The XK150 featured a one-piece windshield replacing the 120 and 140’s split window. The bulkhead was also moved back four-inches on the XK150 making for an extended hood line. The dashboard was also now nicely trimmed in leather instead of the Walnut used on the 140. Overall, the Jaguar XK150 was a highly refined sports car that gave stellar performance in a beautiful package.

Offered here is an outstanding example of the Jaguar heritage, a 1958 XK150 finished in Old English White. There’s just something special about a British sports car and this 150 proves it. Its beautifully sculptured lines literally define style and this one is also equipped with wire wheels. The interior features the classic sports car lay out with a black interior and all gauges clean, clear, and easy to read. Power for this XK150 comes from a retrofitted 3.4 liter twin cam six that was one of Jaguar’s best engines. The engine is not original to the car, but is of thr correct type for a 150. This engine is neat and tidy and this is a car that runs as well as it looks. Most impressive is the signature badge on the rear deck that proudly proclaims Jaguar’s victories at Le Mans. This Jaguar wears an older restoration that has held up well and still looks presentable. Jaguar’s family of fine XK cars are legendary both on and off the track. This XK150 is a great car for the open road or the show field, but whether displaying or driving it’s a car that does not disappoint and will be a fine addition to any collection.

n the very beginning of the motorcar there were literally thousands of car builders all vying for bragging rights about having the best car. Of course, Henry Ford leveled the playing field with the Model T, but there were still a number of manufacturers that were trying their level best to build a good car. One of those was E.M.F., a car that was short lived, but was still a good car. The company was born from the efforts of Barney Everitt, William Metzger, and Walter Flanders. Each brought their own expertise to the new company as Everitt was a coach builder, Metzger was a gifted salesman with experience from Cadillac, and Flanders, who had previously served as Henry Ford’s production manager. Their first car was introduced in 1908 at around the same time as the Model T. Unfortunately the

Offered here is a stellar example of this rare car, a 1912 Model 30 Demi Tonneau that has been nicely restored. Brass lamps adorn this magnificent car that’s finished in a lovely shade of green with black fenders. The E.M.F. name is proudly written in brass on the radiator and a horizontally split windshield is both stylish and functional. The E.M.F. rides on wood spoke artillery wheels with brass center caps that also carry the E.M.F. logo. The interior is finished in fine tufted leather and a huge wood steering wheel makes getting a grip on this large car just a bit easier. irst introduced in 1970 at the New York Auto Show, Alejandro DeTomaso’s Pantera (Italian for “panther”) quickly became one of the most iconic supercars of the 1970s. Using a chassis designed and built by Gian Paolo Dallara who was a designer for Lamborghini, wearing wedge styling by Tom Tjaarda combined with a mid engine Ford 351ci “Cleveland” V-8, the Pantera combined fantastic European style and engineering with a powerful American engine. Ford recognized DeTomaso as an opportunity to build upon its international endurance racing successes of the 1960s. Sold through Lincoln-Mercury dealers from 1971 to 1974, the Pantera offered 330hp

driven through a gated five-speed manual transmission. This set up gave excellent performance and superior handling abilities; Car and Driver recorded a zeroto-sixty time of 5.5 seconds and a top speed in excess of 150 miles per hour. The V-8’s torque was harnessed thanks to powerassisted four wheel disc brakes, while rack and pinion steering was standard. Several modifications were made for the 1972 model year. A new four-bolt main Cleveland engine was employed utilizing a lower compression ratio, chiefly to meet US emissions standards, but with more aggressive camshaft timing in an effort to reclaim some of the power lost through the reduction in compression. Many other engine changes were made, including the use of a factory exhaust header.

n the beginning of the 20th century, there was no shortage of entries into the new-fanged invention called the motorcar. Everyone from bicycles to bird cage builders literally lined up to offer their creations, many of which hardly worked. There were businessmen and tinkerers alike that designed and built their grand creations with all in pursuit of perfecting the motorcar. One such man was Henry Ford, who built his first car in a backyard workshop in 1896. Henry would go on to experiment with many motorcars including the Models A, K, and L, but in 1908, Henry found the success that so many had dreamed of when he introduced his Model T. While no one could have known it at the time, the T would go on to change not only automotive history, but also make a greater impact on mankind more than any other invention before it. Quite simply, Henry had put America on wheels and the world was a different place after the Model T.

hen the Jaguar XK120 made its debut in 1948, it caused a sensation as one of the most beautiful sports cars of all time. Featuring such attributes as super streamlined styling and a double overhead cam engine, the new Jaguar was a hit wherever it went. Although the XK120 was originally conceived as a showroom traffic generator for Jaguar’s sedans, the motoring public loved it so much that it went into production. With a top speed of 120 mph, it was the world’s fastest production car at the time. By 1954, an amazing 7,391 XK120 roadsters had been built and Jaguar’s sports car had become a highly refined road car; as well as, a feared competitor on the race track. By the time the last XK120s were built in 1954, it had become a highly refined sports car that was at home on both the open road and on the race track. The Jaguar XK-120 is one

of the most beautiful cars every created. Sir William Lyons surely knew what he was doing when he conceived the timeless and unforgettable XK120. The early 120’s were made of aluminum alloy and were costly to build and time consuming to put together. After a very successful early racing record and especially after winning LeMans in 1950, the XK-120’s debut at the New York Auto Show created a huge interest in the new British roadster. To meet demands, Sir William Lyons decided to have the cars made of steel to save time and money to meet demands, but this was done without compromising the beautiful lines of the 120 reminiscent of the great French coach built cars of the late 1930’s and 1940’s. The driving experience that the 120 gives is one that is very hard to match with its fantastic sounding and most powerful six cylinder double overhead cam engine that makes driving an instant pleasure. The few cars that were “Special Equipment” models were the XK-120’s bigger, harrier and gutsier brother with its C-type head with high lift cam shafts, dual exhaust and wire wheels making 20 bhp more than the average 120. The 120 SE is the epitome of a great British sports car. The motorcar offered: S676049 is an original matching numbers XK-120 SE OTS that has been beautifully restored to its

For the collector of the finest sports cars, owning an XK-120 should be considered, but owning a matching numbers XK-120 “Special Equipment OTS is a must.

here is no car in the world that is more recognizable than the Ford Mustang. Quite simply, it was a hit when it was new and it still remains one of the most iconic cars to ever grace the roadways. Mustangs have come in many different colors and body styles, but perhaps the most interesting facet of the Mustang is that it has followed American through many different chapters. When muscle cars were prowling the streets in the late 1960s, the Cobra Jets, Shelbys, Mach Is, and Boss versions were right there gaining their fair share of victories. In the present day, the Mustang has become a highly refined world-class supercar car that looks fabulous and is available as a grocery getter or fire-breathing dragon. Yes, the popularity of America’s favorite car has never waned and they are without a doubt the most popular collector car in the world. Estimate: $125,000 - $150,000

ontrary to the modern day, there was a time when the U.S. automobile industry featured several car companies that specialized in genuine luxury. Sadly, many have passed into the annals of history. Great names like Duesenberg, Pierce Arrow, Stutz, and Packard are long gone, but the Lincoln name still conjures up visions of grandeur in the American automobile. By being true to its roots and producing some of the finest luxury cars on the market, the Lincoln name is still a hallmark in both style and engineering. That’s what makes this 1938 Model K with LeBaron coachwork a truly unique car in Lincoln’s history, for it is certainly an automobile worthy of the company’s legacy of fine luxury cars. Although Lincoln has built some great cars, this Model K is one of the last of the

true custom bodied Lincolns as its LeBaron coach work makes it a thing of beauty. Its stunning 136-inch wheelbase is the perfect length for a convertible coupe. This is an original condition car that has been meticulously maintained and appears stunning as a preservation car. 1950 JAGUAR MARK V

Chassis # 628017 Car Highlights • Excellent Restoration • Climate Controlled Storage • Beautiful Two-Tone Finish

Estimate: $40,000 - $50,000

hen we think of Jaguar our thoughts usually turn to sporty XK 120s or sexy E-Types that were the very pinnacle of sporting performance both on and off the racetrack. But there is another highly refined side to this company and that is the legacy of elegantly styled and classically opulent cars that were known for luxury and comfort. In particular, the Mk Series from Jaguar offered some of the most stylish saloons that were a welcome addition to any high society event. Prior to World War II, Jaguar’s stylish Mk IV was a popular car, but after the war the company revealed the fabulous Mk V. With its long sweeping fenders and a 120inch wheelbase, the Mk V was a car fit for kings. Luxury, power, and dependability all came together to make one of Jaguar’s best.

Offered here is an outstanding example of this fabulous car, a Mk V finished in Burgundy and Black that has been completely restored and well-cared for in a climate controlled environment ever since. Nothing was overlooked in returning this car back to its former glory. The paint finish is excellent, it is mechanically clean and reliable, and it also features the rare sunroof for open air touring. Jaguar made many improvements to its Mk car after the war with a new strengthened chassis and torsion bar springs. Indeed, the Mk V gives the appearance of an ultraluxury car, but handles very well with tight cornering and quick acceleration. Power for this Mk V comes from Jaguar’s 3.5 liter inline six that’s more than capable of modern highway speeds. The interior is an exercise in pure luxury with rich burled Walnut wood work and burgundy leather upholstery that is finely crafted and is in excellent condition. Most interesting is that this Mk V features left-hand drive, but is also fitted with European trafficators.

Luxury from Jaguar is taken for granted in the present day, but the Mk V takes us back to a time when sheer elegance and true beauty reigned supreme in the world of the luxury car. Rolls-Royce may have had their Silver Cloud, but the Jaguar Mk V held its own in any formal setting. This example with its outstanding restoration and climate controlled storage is a Mk V by which all others could be judged and would make for an excellent addition to any British car collection.

he barn find cars are all the rage in the current collector market. These are the cars that lie in dormancy for extended periods of time without a single hand being laid on them. It is indeed a special set of circumstances that can allow a car to go untouched for decades at a time. Lost and forgotten in the dark corner of a warehouse or barn, these cars still carry their factory markings, special trim pieces, and factory accessories without molestation of any kind. No one really knows what makes these cars so interesting, but perhaps it’s the excitement of owning something that is still in its true factory form. Whatever the case, barn finds are indeed a rarity in the world of the collector automobile.

This 1930 Packard 740 Phaeton perhaps represents the very pinnacle of the barn find as it stands ready for preservation or restoration. Although weathered with an interesting patina, the elegant lines of this magnificent motorcar are still present. This Model 740 is literally untouched by the hands of time and has sat undisturbed for decades. It’s not hard to imagine this grand car on the open road once again and make no mistake about it; this is a Packard that announces its presence in both size and elegance. This Packard is also unique in that its chassis served as a Packard display piece in gleaming chrome. It is currently in non-running condition, but is very complete and a very good candidate for restoration. It has original paint and original upholstery and is undoubtedly an original car. It also has wire wheels which always looks spectacular on a Packard. The engine is a 384.8 cubic-inch straight eight that produced 106 horsepower and is identical

to the engine used in the 745 and the car even retains its original Packard carburetor which is almost always missing. The Model 740 was available in several body styles, but none had the beauty and long lines of the phaeton that featured room enough for the whole family. This particular car came from an estate in Connecticut 25 years ago where it had been sitting for some time before its discovery back then. Finding a car, especially one as great as an open 740 Packard, is a dream of many and this car is that dream come true. A Packard of any body style is always a sight to behold and the elegant lines of the 740 do not disappoint. The Packard name lives on in the fine engineering and tasteful design of this car. This timeless classic from the pages of Packard’s history is a car that deserves to see the open road once again as a preservation or a full restoration.

1963 GEORGE BARRIS BUICK “VILLA RIVIERA”

Chassis # 439 11844 Car Highlights • Built for the 1964 film “For Those Who Think Young” • Built by George Barris • Originally owned and used for promotional purposes by George Barris and then sold to Actor James Darren • Great Hollywood historical provenance

Estimate: $165,000 - $185,000

G

eorge Barris was a visionary. Even as a boy Barris’s favorite pastime was to build and modify model cars, something he quickly realized he was very good at. As a young man, Barris received a dilapidated 1925 Buick on a job he was working and immediately set out to get it running and add a few custom touches. The result was one of California’s first “Kustom Cars” and Barris was on his way. His incredible career would go on to span some of the most famous Hollywood movie cars ever known with the crime fighting Batmobile and the Munster’s family coach counted as some of his best work. Grandpa’s “DragU-La” coffin dragster was also a hallmark in his designs, but there were also a number of other creations that Barris had a hand in. Indeed, for many years Barris was the man to see when needing a custom car. It was in this way that stars like Zsa Zsa Gabor, Bob Hope, Bing Crosby, Ann Margaret, Glenn Campbell, Elton John, Sonny & Cher, and the King himself, Elvis Presley, all had a Barris Custom in the garage. Barris also designed various cars for movies and television, one of which was a 1963 Buick Riviera that he transformed into the one his most elegant creations called “The Villa Riviera.”

Barris received the order to build the Villa for the 1964 movie For Those Who Think Young starring Frank Sinatra. Buick’s new Riviera seemed like a great starting point and he called the General Motors Public Relations Department who agreed to supply him with two brand new Riviera hard tops from their press fleet. Under Barris’s direction, the Riviera received a complete makeover including a stylish landau top conversion, a six-inch extension on the nose, and a reworked front bumper. Barris also hid the four headlights behind the turn light signal grilles, a feature that would become standard on the Riviera in 1965. The rear fenders were also extended six-inches and in a true Barris innovation taillights were from a Nash Rambler that were fitted upside down. Other alterations came in the form of reshaped wheel arches, nine-inch wide chrome plated rims, and tribar knock-off hubcaps. When completed the “Villa Riviera” was a true customized beauty in every sense of the word. It then went on to star in the movie and was also used by Raymond Burr in several Perry Mason episodes. The Villa was initially painted in a white primer in order to make it easier to use in filming, but Barris refinished the Villa in several other colors before he was done with it. It was

also used for several guest appearances before entering into the hands of several collectors. Throughout the years though, it remains a true Barris Custom. The Villa Riviera as it presents today is still an amazing custom car that only George Barris could take credit for. Finished in a deep Candy Apple Red, the Villa carries

all of the stylish allure that it had back in 1963. It also carries George Barris’s signature and a dash plaque that that states that it belonged to James Darren and was built by George Barris. Although built over 50 years ago, the Villa still looks like a timeless design that still turns heads today. It’s sleek and pointed front end with louvered hood trim spears carry a look of

retro elegance while its landau roof and extended rear deck made for a beautifully balanced design. The interior features buckets seats in both front and rear and the dashboard with center console is both classy and comfortable. Power for the Villa comes from Buick’s V-8 in an engine compartment that is clean and tidy. The Villa’s outstanding condition is due in part

to the fact that it has had only two owners since new and it has been in the possession of the present owner since 1984. George Barris is a legend in the annals of the custom car and the chance to own one of his unique creations is just as rare as the car itself. The Villa Riviera is a car that carries all of Barris’s styling influences and is also a landmark car in the history of his work. For the collector of rare and exotic motorcars that truly represents an American icon, the Villa Riviera will serve as the centerpiece of any world class collection.

1938 CADILLAC V-16 CONVERTIBLE COUPE

Chassis # 5270060 Car Highlights • AACA National First Place Winner • V-16 Power • CCCA Award Winner • One of four late V-16 Convertible coupes in existence

Estimate: $325,000 - $375,000

I

n the decade of the 1930s, it can be safely stated that one’s place in society could be directly determined by the number of cylinders in their motorcar. Quite simply, a Model A Ford would look out of place parked in front of the Vanderbilt’s or Rockefeller’s grand palatial estates. There were several multi-cylinder cars to choose from in the classic era of the 1930s; Packard and Lincoln had V-12s, Marmon had a V-16, and even the common General Motors and Ford cars offered eight cylinder power. Not to be left out was Cadillac, who introduced their V-16 in 1930. Steady refinement of the big V-16 meant that as the decade came to a close Cadillac’s masterpiece had become an engineering marvel as well as a work of art. Redundancy was also the order-of-theday with twin carburetion, twin fuel pumps, twin distributors, twin water pumps, and even a nine main bearing crankshaft. The result of this extraordinary engineering was an engine that was absolutely silent at idle and turbine smooth in operation. Cadillac built their V-16 only from 1930 to 1940, but in that time the V-16 reigned supreme as the ultimate engine for the motoring landscape. Indeed, the Cadillac name has always stood as a hallmark of fine American luxury. While many other manufacturers were content to build cars for the masses, it took a few more dollars to step up to the prestige of a Cadillac. Long wheelbases, tasteful trim, and opulent interiors were

just a few of the design features that the Cadillac name was known for. Offered here is an outstanding example of this most prestigious chapter of Cadillac’s history, a Series 90 Convertible Coupe that looks simply elegant and one of only four that exist today. No more is Cadillac’s commitment to luxury more obvious than in their top-of-the-line Series 90 cars for 1938 and this grand convertible powered by the mighty V-16 carries itself with both silence and pride. Riding on an immense 141-inch wheelbase, the Series 90 left no doubt that one had arrived in style and was a car that rode with the ultimate luxury. The pleasure of driving this immense car is an experience in true extravagance with fine leather finished in a beautiful brown and gorgeous wood grain in the dashboard and doors. The style and elegance of this beautiful car is also clearly displayed in its formally elegant body lines. Sweeping front and rear fenders help carry its

immense length while a pair of enclosed side mounted spare tires adds a touch of sophistication to its immense size. Of course all of this elegance came at a price as the Convertible Coupe from Cadillac sold for the rather large sum of $5,420 dollars, but those that had the resources found that there were no shortcomings in Cadillac’s magnificent V-16 powered car Very few luxury cars have been able to sustain their place in the competitive luxury car market, but for over 100 years Cadillac has done just that. By building large cars that could carry passengers in ultimate comfort, the Cadillac name has been able to survive. Even in the present day the name is still synonymous with absolute comfort and luxury. The chance to own one of Cadillac’s most prestigious motorcars is rare indeed and prospective buyers should look this fine car over closely in order to fully appreciate its impeccable condition. This beautiful Cadillac has also garnered its fair share of awards with an AACA National First Prize and a CCCA Award in National competition. This magnificent

Cadillac will surely be the centerpiece of any great classic collection and is also sure to be a stand out on any show field.

Car Highlights • All Original Condition • 43,000 original miles • Original Carrera • Matching numbers engine • Sunroof coupe

Estimate: $175,000 - $200,000 No Reserve

T

he Porsche 911 is a car that needs no introduction in the world of performance sports cars. Introduced in 1963, it has been steadily refined and is still in production today. Although the 911 has seen many variations with the Carrera RS, the 930 Turbo, the SC, and the 964 to name a few, the general layout has never changed. Rear engine power in a chassis that is highly tuned makes for a car that is pure paradise to drive. That the Porsche 911 has stayed in production for over five decades is a tribute not only to Porsche’s fine engineering, but also to the design of a car that was done right the first time. Perhaps the proof is found in Porsche’s victories with the 911, after all it did win the Rally Monte Carlo in its very first year. The subsequent decades saw the 911 win the Targo Floria, Daytona, Sebring, and the crown jewel of all, the 1979 Le Mans. In the present day, Porsche builds more competition cars than any other manufacturer.

The “H” Series Porsche 911, introduced for the 1974 model year, incorporated some fairly major structural, mechanical, and cosmetic changes to comply with the ever stringent U.S. safety and emissions regulations. New were the impactabsorbing aluminum bumpers fore and aft, with inner structures at both ends strengthened to absorb impact. The hood was shortened, and the doors were reinforced internally. The front corner lights and reflectors were incorporated into the rubber bumper trim, while a new center reflector filled the space between the taillight assemblies. There were important suspension upgrades, a larger fuel tank (which necessitated a compact spare tire and air compressor), and a single battery tucked into the left-front corner of the trunk. The interior gained new high-backed Sport seats for the driver and passenger.

For 1975, only the 911 S and Carrera were offered to American buyers, fitted with the same 2.7-liter engine with K-Jetronic fuel injection. Porsche built only 395 of these Carreras in 1975 representing a fraction of the total production that year.

1932 PACKARD 903 COUPE ROADSTER

Estimate: $295,000 - $325,000

F

or 1932, Packard once again had redesigned its cars for the better. The new look consisted of many nuances, the most recognizable being the slight vee of the radiator which would be a trait that would stick with Packard’s design for many years to come. The emblem was moved down to the crank hole cover, the belt molding had a much more beautiful contour as did the window reveals and all models had long sweeping fenders. The super eight, or now called “Deluxe Eight” for 1932, was easily identifiable by its weighted single bar bumpers, its dual trumpet horns mounted under the headlights and the fantastic deluxe headlamps. There were also some changes made in 1932 that are not so easily noticeable at first glance.

Most notably the frame was redesigned with a “double drop” design. The frame was dropped in two places paired with Packard’s new lower body mold and aprons allowed for just shy of a 2 inch lower body mounting. Mechanically the super eight engine had been refined and now produced 135 horsepower at 3200 rpm. The transmission was also refined, now having a synchronized second and third gears making driving more enjoyable. With the new vee radiator, lower chassis, long sweeping fenders, 135 horsepower, synchronized gears, and 142 inch wheelbase, the “Deluxe Eight” Coupe Roadster for 1932 is one of the most iconic, sporty and beautiful Packard’s ever created.

The car had a complete body off restoration and is now in a Concours level condition that any Packard collector would be proud of. Paint, Mechanicals and brightwork are so fantastic that it is hard to not look at this car. Finished in a very appealing silver with black belt moldings and red wire wheels, showing off the low waste line and sleek lines Packard designed for the 1932 model year. Mechanically it runs and drives superbly and is ready for driving. The seats have

a few wrinkles but virtually no wear. The dashboard and engine compartment have been meticulously restored and are entirely sanitary and correct. This Packard is a Classic Car Club of America Full Classic, and as such, it is eligible for all club events and CARavan tours.

Estimate: $75,000 - $85,000

O

f all the great muscle cars of the late 1960’s, one comes to mind that rises above all the rest: the Shelby. Carroll Shelby was a race driver who was successful racing for great companies such as Maserati, Austin Healey and Aston Martin, winning Lemans in 1959. He then went on to create the infamous Shelby Cobra which was an AC fitted with a Ford V-8 engine. The Cobras quickly became famous both for their very successful racing records and for their iconic design, becoming a car that defined what the American sports car was in the mid 1960’s. Because of this great legacy, Ford decided to collaborate with Shelby to create the Shelby Mustang in 1965 which proved to be successful in both racing

and sales. Three years later in 1968 Ford was continuing its successful line of Shelby Mustangs with its new facelift given to it by the Ford design team. The 1968 year was by far the best looking with its more aggressive front end and masculine tail end with the sinister look of its large taillights, sporty tailfin and the sleek fastback roof. The 1968 Shelby GT 350 was fitted with the great 302 cubic inch V-8 fitted with the Shelby high rise intake which was rated at 250 HP. For 1968, Shelby rekindled his relationship with Hertz Rent-a-Car to continue their “Rent-a-Racer” program with Shelby Mustangs as part of Hertz’s Sports Car Club fleet which previously ended in 1966. However, Hertz had wised up a bit since

As such, only 224 cars are known to be delivered according to the Shelby Registry, 223 according to Marti, and this time they ordered them in an array of colors. This car, S/N 1172 was sold new to Hertz of Hartford Connecticut and then sold to its next owner when Hertz retired the car sometime in 1969 or 1970. The matching numbers engine was rebuilt and is still mated to the original C4 automatic that all ‘68 Hertz cars had. It retains its perfect original interior and is also equipped with power disc brakes, power steering, tilt top steering wheel, AM radio, and a fold down rear seat. he Grand Touring movement of the 1960s gave rise some of the best luxury performance cars ever built. Great GT cars like the Bentley Continental, Lancia Aurelia, Maserati 3500 GT, and the Ferrari 250 GT Lusso are just a few examples of these wonderful cars, but Mercedes Benz also had a big part of the GT market with the 190 SL, a car that was comfortable and more than fit for the open road. Introduced in 1955, the 190 SL stayed in production until 1963 with just over 25,000 built. The 190 SL was an excellent performer and many soon came to know it as a reliable touring car for any distance. The 300 SL may have had more power, but for the money the 190 was a sharp car that offered style, speed, and a comfortable grand touring experience for a reasonable price. In the present day the 190 SL has become an icon in the luxury sports car market as prices for good examples have skyrocketed.

The 190 SL offered here is a great example of this German luxury car that has received only a repaint and is largely an original condition car. It’s finished in a lovely blue ad features an off-white interior. Mercedes Benz superior reputation for quality and reliability are clearly demonstrated in this classic roadster that has been meticulously maintained over the years. It is a rust-free car that is remarkably preserved and has had only two owners since new. In fact, the current owner has retained it for the past 25 years. Power for this roadster comes from a 1.9 liter inline four that’s fitted with twin carburetors and cranks out 104 horsepower. The engine compartment is neat and tidy and shows that it was wellmaintained over the years. In the end Mercedes Benz ended production of the 190 SL in 1963 when it was replaced by the 230 SL and one can only wonder how many more would have been sold if it had continued for just a few more years. The grand touring experience comes alive in this fine 190 SL that’s just perfect for a night on the town or a ride in the country.

he Chevrolet Corvette is widely recognized as an American icon in sports car history. Born in 1953 as one of Harley Earl’s projects at General Motors, the Corvette has become a chapter of automotive history all by itself. In the present day, it has become a highly refined sports car that is capable of awe inspiring performance, but long before the day of the Z06 or the ZR1, the Corvette was a simplistic roadster that offered stellar performance in a great package. When GM offered a V-8 for the Corvette in 1955, performance jumped a notch and the Corvette became a fierce competitor on the track. The 1962 Corvette featured here is the last year of the first generation Corvette and as such represents the ultimate in refinement for the earliest models. Quite simply it’s a car that runs as strong as it looks.

The 1962 Corvette offered here was the subject of a frame up restoration that has returned it to like-new condition and this is a Corvette that could serve as a benchmark of authenticity. A close look from any angle reveals a highly detailed frame and engine compartment that carries a factorylike appearance. Power for this Corvette comes from Chevrolet’s 327 cubic-inch V-8 fitted with optional fuel-injection, which was a $484 option back in 1962. Most impressive is the attractive color of red with a white top and black interior. The overall fit and finish of this outstanding car is something that has to be closely inspected to be fully appreciated. The 1962 Corvette is a timeless design that represents a unique era in automotive styling. This Corvette’s performance,

he early days of the motorcar gave rise to some of the most incredible competitive sporting events ever seen. Manufacturers everywhere clamored for bragging rights at all of the local race tracks. The crowds were huge at these events with everyone cheering on their favorite car and driver. The motorcar names loomed as large as the events themselves with names like Winton, Lozier, Stutz, Simplex, and Locomobile all building cars that sounded like a row of cannons going off as they passed by the home stretch. Of all the great names that graced those early tracks there is one

that stands tall above all the rest. Indeed, the name Mercer drove fear into the very hearts of any competitor that was brave enough to enter the arena of the great lion. The Mercer name was one of power and prestige, a reputation built by winning races in a motorcar that was little more than an engine, seat, fuel tank, and four wheels. For 1911, Mercer introduced that car that changed the face of motorcar racing, the Raceabout. The impetus for the Raceabout was one of Mercer’s financial backers, Washington A. Roebling II, whose family was not unfamiliar with brilliant engineering after building the Brooklyn

Bridge. Roebling’s vision was for a car that would be the absolute pinnacle of speed and durability. With Mercers fantastic reputation and racing victories, by 1922 Mercer was well established as Americas sports car. The L-head cars were fantastic both in design and mechanics being literally a lengthened raceabout with a back seat. With 6 Rudge wire wheels, dual rear mounted spares, a very sporty body design, a 4 speed transmission and a fantastic engine that produces 70 hp at 2800 rpm, the series 5 sporting was a sportsman’s choice for a touring car in 1922. This particular series 5 Sporting has excellent provenance being previously owned by the great collector Edward Gibbs and is thought to also have been owned by Cameron Peck. The car also still retains its original bill of sale which states its special ordered options. Interestingly, when S952 was sold new in Chicago, it was special ordered entirely

trimmed in brass; the top irons are brass, the car has a beautiful custom brass steering wheel that is original to the car, brass switches, lights and running board trim. It was also ordered with Bosch ignition and light switch along with matching Bosch headlights, driving lights and taillight. It also has a fantastic Zenith dual throat carburetor with its matching original intake manifold that was made specifically for the Mercer engine. The top irons are brass, the car has a beautiful custom brass steering wheel that is original to the car, brass switches, lights and running board trim. Condition of S952 is also of incredible preservation. The interior is entirely original retaining its original leather seats and original carpeting and the frame still retains its incredible original paint. For the

collector of the best and the most original, this fantastic Series 5 Sporting is a car with amazing provenance and preserved condition that rises above all the rest and is a car that has been out of the public eye for the past 50 years.

ancia’s development of the Aurelia GT design came from the B10 Aurelia Saloon that débuted in 1950. The official début of the Aurelia GT was of an outrageous wraparoundwindscreen spider, designated the B24. The competition successes of the Aurelia GT in the early-1950s had encouraged Lancia to offer increasingly sporting body styles for customers, and renowned U.S. importer Max Hoffman pitched numerous European manufacturers on embracing the potential of the American marketplace for dual-purpose open-top sports cars. Between December 1954 and October 1955, Pininfarina bodied 240 examples of the dynamic B24 Spider on the fourthseries Aurelia GT chassis, with the latter 181 of them being classified as B24S. In July 1956, Lancia began offering a revised version of the B24S that was built on the fifth-series Aurelia GT platform, which featured modified camshafts, nondetachable cylinder liners, a new clutch, and direct drive top gear. The new car also featured revised bodywork with a true convertible top and roll-up windows for proper weather sealing, and redesigned seats for improved overall driver comfort. It was officially dubbed the Aurelia GT

2500 America Convertible, and only 150 examples of the new B24S were produced before a final revision was enacted in 1957 on the sixth-series Aurelia GT chassis. Following this final iteration, the model line was discontinued entirely, at which point just 521 examples of the B24S Convertible had been produced. As one of the world’s oldest car companies, Lancia has been building great cars since 1906. It was then that the company was founded by Vincenzo Lancia who proceeded to make a name for the company in rallies and racing events. Lancia’s success came from building sturdy cars that held up well under any conditions, but also were very spirited performers. In particular, the Aurelia was introduced in 1950 as Lancia’s first car to use a V-6 engine. Before production of the Aurelia ended in 1958 the V-6 had grown in size from 1.8 to 2.5 liters, which made it a fast and excellent handling car. There were also innovations in the engineering with an inboard mounted drum brake system and a front suspension system that used a sliding pillar design. The Aurelia was also Lancia’s first car to use radial tires. Clearly innovation was the key to the Aurelia’s success and it was a great car right from the start.

1961 JAGUAR XK150 SE FHC

he Jaguar heritage is one that needs no introduction. Starting from the meager roots of the Swallow Sidecar Company, the Jaguar name became solidified with the SS and continued with legendary cars like the XK and the E-Type. As the premier European racing events evolved in the late 1950s, the Jaguar name was a constant presence in competition where it routinely battled with all of the greats. Born from a need for a more powerful competition car, the XK 150 made its debut in 1957. While it may have looked similar to its 120 and 140 predecessors, it was in fact a complete reinvent of the previous XK. The new XK 150 featured a body line around the doors, the grille was redesigned and the windshield was now of the wrap around type which all gave the new

XK a sleek and more modern appearance. Power came from the great 3.4 liter dual overhead cam straight six familiar in both the XK120s and the XK140’s, but in 1960, the XK150 was offered with the fantastic 3.8 Liter engine which now allowed the XK 150 to reach speeds in excess of 130 mph. Interior appointments were also refined with leather dashboards and was now a driver’s delight having been laid out with competition in mind. Offered to the collector of fine British sport cars is this wonderful example of the XK150 SE FHC; a wonderful car in fantastic restored condition and powered by Jaguar’s 3.8 liter twin cam six cylinder paired with the great Moss 4 speed transmission, it’s a

car that offers great performance in true sport coupe form. Its fine dedication to originality and outstanding ground up restoration make it the ultimate car for both driving and display. Jaguars of this era are becoming increasingly hard to find, with 3.8 liter Special Equipment models being even scarcer. The 3.8 SE models

had 220 horsepower at 5500 rpm making 30 horsepower more than the average XK150 3.4. This 1961 XK 150 offered here is a car that does not disappoint in both fit and finish and is one of only 475 150 SE 3.8 Liter cars originally imported into the United States. Found in a barn in Indiana in magnificent original condition, a body off restoration was performed in 2009 along with a complete mechanical rebuild with only 4000 miles on the car since completion. Winning best in show at the 2014 JCNSE Concours and winning awards at other New England concours shows such as the Greenwich Concours d’Elegance, this Jaguar is an exquisite example. It also comes with its Jaguar Trust Heritage certificate solidifying its true matching numbers engine, transmission,

cylinder head and body. The Jaguar XK 150 is a car that has its own history both on the street and on the track and this fine example is sure to be a wonderful addition to any collection while offering years of excellent touring.

s Cadillac crossed into the 1960s the company refined its cars with a little more taste and less glamour. Trim appointments were refined with a more tasteful restraint applied in its design. The tailfins were lower and sharper with the tail lights mounted in an oval nacelle within the rear bumper. The front end featured a full-width grille and the elimination of the previous years pointed bumper guards. Overall the 1960 Cadillac is viewed by many collectors as a tasteful design that is the very pinnacle of American luxury for 1960. Cadillacs for 1960 were also recognized for their attention to fine detail in the design and construction of their automobiles. Good performance, reliability, and perfection were the standards of the entire Cadillac

line-up. The top-of-the line convertible for Cadillac in 1960 was the Eldorado, which represented the higher end, but for those with a smaller wallet the Series 62 offered great value in an American luxury car. Selling for $4,892, the Series 62 was a beautifully styled automobile and it was also a very successful car for Cadillac with 14,000 built for the model year. Clearly Cadillac had a winner with its Series 62 Convertible in 1960. Offered here is a nicely preserved example of Cadillac’s best, a 1960 Series 62 convertible in Olympic White with a contrasting red interior. This Cadillac could almost pass for a restored car, but with just 32,000 miles since new it looks and runs like new. It rides on an immense 130-inch wheelbase and rides like a cloud. en Bereza was a man of many talents. He spent his life as a machinist involved in designing and fabricating some of the most intricate parts used in all sorts of products. Ben was also an extremely talented wood carver and would regularly hone the most complicated designs from a single piece of wood. In his lifetime he also managed to amass one of the most diverse and amazing collections of beer steins in the world. As if all of this wasn’t enough Ben also had a passion for antique cars. Among the automobiles in his collection were several Dodge products from the 1920s through the 1950s. Ben was also partial to AMC and Mercedes Benz and enjoyed driving all of his cars. In his later years, Ben decided that it was time to buy the car of his dreams. He had always wanted a superior classic motorcar that would be the very best of his collection. So it was that Ben purchased his beloved 1929 LaSalle Sport Phaeton, a car that was grand in both stature and elegance. On any given summer day Ben could be seen driving his LaSalle on the back roads of Northwestern, Connecticut. When Ben was diagnosed with cancer in 2014, he immediately set about to get his affairs in order. Sadly, Ben lost his fight and passed away in August of 2015. As his gift to those in need his last will and testament stipulated that his beloved LaSalle be sold

and the funds be used to establish a trust to buy tools for less fortunate students attending the Oliver Wolcott Trade School in Torrington, Connecticut. We at Dragone are proud to help in making Ben’s dream come true by presently this wonderful 1929 LaSalle Sport Phaeton for auction with all proceeds going to the fund. Of course the grand 1929 LaSalle needs no introduction in the world of classic cars. This impressive car rides on a 125-inhc wheelbase and carries side mounted spare tires. Lest anyone mistake it for a common car it should be noted that LaSalle’s Sport Phaeton sold new for $2,875 when $525 bought a new Chevrolet Roadster. This LaSalle was repainted many years ago and now carries a patina that only the hands of time could create. Although never

restored, Ben went to great lengths to keep his LaSalle mechanically fit and the engine in this car runs like a watch. Shifting is smooth and steering this large car is surprisingly easy given its 4,405 pound weight. It also features folding windshields that look absolutely fabulous in the retracted position. This LaSalle was just fitted with brand new tires and the rims were powder coated. As Ben’s pride and joy, his LaSalle always received the best care and attention.

Ben’s contribution to helping children through his generous donation will help ensure that students who are entering the machinist and automotive trades get the foundation they need to succeed in life. The new owner of this wonderful car will not only get a great American classic, but will also have the satisfaction of planting the seed for a new generation of car enthusiasts. We would like to sincerely thank all of those who assisted in making this possible including Karen Eichner, Glenn Royals, Dragone Classic Motorcars, and Dennis David.

1946 LANCIA APRILIA PROTOTYPE

Chassis # 439 11844 Car Highlights • Coachwork by Pininfarina • Built special for the 1946 Paris Motor Show • Outstanding restoration and documented history • Driven by Gian Battista Pininfarina himself to the 1946 Paris Motor Show

Estimate: $450,000 - $500,000

W

hen the Lancia Aprilia was introduced, it was a car that was very popular among the public and among coachbuilders to show off their talents. In 1939 until the end of the Aprilia’s production in 1949, Lancia had upgraded the Aprilia calling it the series 2 that was equipped with a 1482cc V4 engine making 48 bhp. Special designs were built on these cars by great coachbuilders such as Zagato, Carrozzeria Touring, Bertone and Michelotti while he was at Vignale. But one special Aprilia that was most beautiful was the Pininfarina prototype. This car is a unique model built just after the war by Gian Battista Pininfarina. At this time, most coachbuilders used the length

of the engines to design cars with long bonnets where passengers ended up sitting almost on top of the rear axle. Contrary to the norm at this time, Pininfarina built a car with a shorter nose that enabled a more centrally positioned passenger compartment, and with a slender and elegant rear styling. He decided to exhibit the car together with a fantastic Alfa Romeo 2500 at the Paris Motor Show. However, Italian manufacturers had been barred because of Italy’s stance in WWII. With the focus being on reconstruction and recovery in the aftermath of the war, the organizers of the first Motor Show since 1938 restricted entry to manufacturers from countries on the right side of the fence. However, Pininfarina didn’t see the situation in the same way and, the great entrepreneur that he was, decided to drive his two creations

to Paris in October 1946, to show off his talents. His son Sergio, aged 20, took the wheel of the Alfa Romeo, accompanied by a couple of family friends and Gian Battista drove the Lancia. He recounted the magic of this trip in his memoires, the first for his son, across Italy and into France, after the many horrible years of the war, and the people’s astonishment as these two outrageous and highly elegant prototypes passed by. On arriving in Paris, he was barred from entering the Grand Palais, and so set up his own “ salon “ on the avenue Winston Churchill in front of the entrance to the Grand Palais and displayed his two cars in the street...The renowned magazine l’Illustration decided to produce its special first Motor Show edition, and to pay tribute to the talent and

trial against adversity of this impetuous designer: the Lancia and the Alfa Romeo (in the background) were given pride of place on the cover. The Motor Show was composed primarily of utilitarian and prewar vehicles that were already known to the public. At this time the exhibitors were searching for raw materials rather than clients and were obliged to export the majority of their production other than utility vehicles. So imagine the spectacle caused by Pininfarina displaying these two stunning prototypes in front of the spectacular building housing the first international automobile and aviation show, in what he called in his memoires “ my anti salon “. The Lancia remained in France and was registered in 1949 in the name of the company Roblou, 98 avenue Bourdon

à Neuilly sur Seine, the headquarters of the Lancia importer until 1965. The vendor has told us that the car was also exhibited at the Geneva Motor Show, painted white. The well known Belgian dealer Bernard Marreyt discovered the car in the north of France in 2010, and subsequently undertook a professional restoration of a very high standard in Pisa, Italy, keeping the original color combination. Following this exhaustive three-year project, the car was sold to the last owner, and has run

just 80 km since. It was invited to be part of a special tribute to Pininfarina, held just outside London, England in July 2013. Sergio’s son, Paolo, took to the wheel of the ‘Speciale’, full of emotion. The origins, extraordinary history and condition of this unique car make this an exceptional opportunity to acquire a landmark in the history of Italian post-war automobiles. This Aprilia, belonging to an enthusiast passionate about Italian engineering and Lancia in particular, is in perfect running

condition. While it is relatively common to find automobiles that have been restored, it is rare that enough hours have been spent on every minute detail for the driver’s satisfaction. The car on offer is perfect.

1987 DeTOMASO PANTERA GT5-S

Chassis # IA9PN8743HD111013 Car Highlights • All original condition with 16,000 original miles • Two owners from new • 1 of 50 GT5-S Pantera’s built for the U.S. market • One of a handful originally ordered in black

Estimate: $150,000 - $165,000

he Pantera GT5-S was the most radical and fantastic version of the Pantera that was conceived during the Pantera’s 25 year production run. First introduced in 1970 at the New York Auto Show, Alejandro DeTomaso’s Pantera (Italian for “panther”) quickly became one of the most iconic supercars of the 1970s. Using a chassis designed and built by Gian Paolo Dallara who was a designer for Lamborghini, wearing wedge styling designed by Carrozzeria Ghia combined with a mid engine Ford 351ci “Cleveland” V-8 paired with a 5 Speed ZF gearbox, the Pantera combined fantastic European style and engineering with a powerful American engine.

Introduced in November of 1984, the GT5-S gave the Pantera the facelift it was calling for. Several modifications were made for the GT5-S, including the new wide body which had steel fender extensions, hence the “S”, and more horsepower added to the 351 Cleveland than the previous few years. Amenities such as electric windows and air conditioning, came standard in the Pantera as it did in previous years. Less than 183 GT5-S Pantera’s were built and less than 50 were made for U.S. import. This exquisite example of a he DeTomaso Pantera GT5-S is one of the finest. Specifically built as one of less than 50 cars for the U.S. market and originally owned by a gentleman in Florida, this car was only driven leisurely for maintenance purposes and around town driving. It spent most of its life in a climate controlled environment which greatly contributed to its perfect original condition today and its very low 16,000 original miles. It retains its original black paint and tan leather interior along with its original deep Campagnolo wheels, with the extra wide wheels in the rear specifically made for the GT5-S, and of course its original engine and transaxle. Today the car comes from a private collector who acquired the car from the

original Florida owner, making this one of the best, if not the best original example of a GT5-S in existence and with only two owners from new. Cooling and air conditioning systems have been upgraded for more reliable and enjoyable driving and the engine and transmission have been completely rebuilt with a few performance upgrades including Ansa Exhaust making this car 100% reliable and giving it a new found 500 horsepower. All of the original smog equipment was not put back when the engine was rebuilt, but it is included with the car. 1935 FORD SPYDER BY CARROZZERIA VIOTTI

Chassis # 18F1472994 Car Highlights • Custom Coachwork by Carrozzeria Viotti • Built for race driver Johnny Lurani • Based on a 1935 Ford V-8 chassis • Fantastic 1930’s Italian Design • Just discovered from 40 year ownership Estimate: $475,000 - $600,000

T

he history of Carrozzeria Viotti centers on its founder Vittorino Viotti who founded his coachwork shop in 1921 with a dozen specialized workers . They built bodies on luxury chassis to any desire of their customers and by 1930 they became Anomina Carrozzeria Viotti with Mr. Viotti as its director. Viotti, along with his designers Mario Revelli and Giuseppe Frua clothed all types of chassis for some of the European elite. In 1930 the Famous Fiat 525 SS sports roadster was created in a short run for Fiat to use at the major auto salons, this car brought Viotti to the attention of the car world . They bodied an Isotta Fraschini for the Martini and Rossi Company which won awards at the 1933 Villa d`este concours and were considered one of the top Italian designers at the time.

Fiat employed them for some of their most important designs and even the 508s Mille Miglia spyder was created in the Viotti shops. The special sports 1935 Ford offered here was designed reputedly for famous Italian race driver ‘Johnny` Lurani for his personal use . This is the only Ford known to have been bodied by Carrozzeria Viotti and very little is known about its early history . The car was found on a large cattle ranch in Argentina in the 1960s and brought back to the U.S. by a collector who parked it in his garage for over 40 years . It still wears the old paint perhaps done in the 1950s or early 1960s and has all of its original drivetrain, hardware and body panels. The amount of attention to detail was Viottis signature and if you look at the louvered hood and raised panel louvers in

the lower aprons this shows that the metal fabricators of Viotti`s shop were the best in the world . The special Ford grille that was hand formed incorporating the headlight stanchions that hold the exotic Scintilla headlamps is a work of art. All of the body and fender shapes are hand formed and show the quality of the coachbuilder’s work that has stood up perfectly to its 80 years. The Viotti Ford can be driven as is or can be restored as a concours winner. The coachwork would be fit for an Alfa Romeo, a Maserati or any other of the great chassis of the 1930s. The Ford V8 was considered a fast car in the 1930s and could be rallied or raced with the best and is still as true today as it was in 1935.

Chassis # HBJ8L38545 Car Highlights • Beautiful Condition • Only Two Owners From New • Sebring Style Fender Air Vents • Side Pipe Exhaust • Chrome Wire Wheels • Last of the Healey’s

he 1960s was a great time to play with sports cars as it seemed that everyone had a horse in the race. Maserati, Ferrari, Mercedes Benz, and of course Jaguar all offered great cars that were sleek, powerful, and in many cases nicely fitted with a great interior for touring. Along with the great cars was Austin Healey, who had introduced their 3000 series cars in 1959. These quickly became known as the “Big Healeys” due to their large six-cylinder engines. Bodies for the 3000 were built by Jensen Motors with assembly taking place at British Motor Corporation’s Abingdon Works plant. The Austin 3000 was a spirited performer right from the start with a 2912 cc inline six cylinder engine fitted with twin SU carburetors. Testing of the new 3000 yielded great results with a top speed of 115 mph. Clearly the Austin 3000 was a car destined for competition and it soon won its class in many European rallies. In the present day, the Austin Healy 3000 is still a car to be reckoned with at many vintage racing events. The Austin Healy 3000 pictured here is a spectacular example of this legendary car and is offered here after being retained by the same owner since the early 1970s. Officially known as the Mark III and designated as the BJ8, this stellar example

has the Le Mans style air vents on the side and also sports a chrome side pipe exhaust. Chrome wire wheels complete the classic British sports car styling of this Healey and it’s also finished in a beautiful gleaming red coat of paint. Power for this 3000 Mark III comes from a 150 horsepower inline six fitted with twin SU carburetors. Standard equipment on the Mark III also included a walnut-veneer dashboard and roll up windows. Clearly the 3000 was becoming a highly refined sports car in its final years and this Mark III proves it. The Austin Healey 3000 was the right car at the right time. It was always known as a great weekend touring car, but its success at places like Sebring and Le Mans made it a legend in its own time. This example with its excellent condition and special features makes it a stand out in the crowd. If your collection is missing that classic British sports car, this is the Mark III that deserves a special place in a world class collection.

1951 FIAT STANGA BARCHETTA

uch like the earlier Italian races of Carrera Panamericana and the Targa Florio, the Mille Miglia has made many sports car makers world-famous such as Porsche, Maserati, Ferrari and Alfa Romeo. But, by far the most popular and one of the most successful makes that really staked its claim in the post war sports car arena was WWW. The 500 Topolino chassis was the most popular chassis used during the late 1940’s up into the mid 1950’s for custom coachwork by many Italian coachbuilders and used by many privateer race drivers for large races such as the Mille Miglia. The 500’s lightweight chassis, its small but high revving, powerful and, most importantly, reliable 500cc engine made it a great car for coachbuilders and race drivers looking to compete and win. Out of many small Italian coachbuilders of the late 1940’s and the early 1950’s, one that really stands out and was known for its many beautiful designs on the infamous Fiat chassis was Carrozzeria Motto of Turin Italy. The most recognizable of all the Moto designs is wonderfully exemplified in this car, chassis xxxx. The conservative but sexy lines of the alloy Moto resemble that of the bigger Ferrari 166MM Barchetta designed by Touring, an exquisite timeless design of

proportional and fantastic beauty. What makes this particular car special is its Fiat chassis that was upgraded and re-designed by Gianfranco e Camillo Stanga. Stanga upgraded the Fiat chassis to a lightweight tubular design and upgraded the suspension and steering components to make this car handle like a racecar and to handle the Abarth tuned Fiat engine. Bored to 600cc paired with twin webber carburetors, a 4 speed close ratio gearbox and the great high compression abarth head, this Moto is the essence of Italian beauty and design; small displacement, lightweight , a lot of power and beautiful lines. 1100203743 is ready to be a part of a great sportscar collection and is race tuned, eligible and ready for its next drive on the Mille Miglia.

lthough the Lincoln-Mercury division was formed in 1945, it would not be until 1948 that Mercury would be able to shed its image as a rebadged Ford and establish itself as a car in its own right. This separation would last for only a few short years, and for 1955 and 1956 Mercury once again based its models on the Ford line-up before once again separating itself from Ford for 1957. This up and down roller coaster ride sums up Mercury’s formative years as a member of the Ford family. Through it all, Mercury has managed to build some of Detroit’s most innovative and stylish designs, and the very pinnacle of this premise can be found as Lincoln introduced its all-new postwar car in 1949. It was a clean and attractive design that was made famous by actor James Dean in Rebel without a Cause. Little change was needed for the next year and Mercury crossed over into 1950 with a car that was just what the motoring public was looking for. 1950 was also a banner year for Mercury with building its one millionth car and it was also chosen to pace the 34th running of the famous Indianapolis 500. It was certainly a successful year and Mercury was on top of its game. Offered here is a beautiful Mercury coupe finished in its original classic black paint that looks perfect on a 1950s cruiser. A set

of wide white wall tires looks impeccable and a front windshield sun shade adds just the right touch. A set of chrome search lights also adds to the classic 1950s look. Mercury’s front grille treatment for 1950 was a marvel of design with an abundance of chrome and matching large front bumper. The interior of this Mercury is nicely preserved with the upholstery covered in clear plastic for preservation and protection. Mercury’s dashboard treatment was downright futuristic with dials, switches, and gauges all within easy reach of the driver. Power for this Mercury comes from a 255.4 cubic-inch n L-Head V-8 rated at 110 horsepower. This is one of the finest all original examples in existence. The Mercury name has now been relegated to the pages of history, but that history comes alive in this nicely preserved example. For cruising in style in one the best examples of early 1950s styling, this Mercury is a car that’s ready for the Friday night cruise.

1965 PORSCHE 356 SC COUPE

Chassis # S831169 Car Highlights • Late 1965 SC with disc brakes • Comes with Porsche Certificate of Authenticity • Finished in original color of Slate Grey and red leather interior

Estimate: $110,000 - $125,000

T

he 356 Porsche is one of the most iconic and utterly stylish sports cars ever created. The first 356 rolled out of the Austrian factory in 1948 and it took Porsche almost two years to produce its first 50 cars. Once the 356 landed in other countries it started to increase in popularity very quickly because of its lightweight, beautiful design and performance features. It quickly became the choice for privateer racers and sports car enthusiasts for use in road races and sports car events that were becoming very popular in the early 1950’s. The 356 was built in four stages, and as each new model was created it became more refined. The original (“pre-A”), followed by the 356A, 356B, and then finally the 356C and SC models. The SC marked Porsche’s highest evolution of the 356 Series prior to embarking on the next major accomplishment, the 911. Most Porsche enthusiasts agree that there truly is no better driving 356 than an SC model. They are superbly balanced, proportioned and powered and are perpetually sought after by enthusiasts. It featured disc brakes all round, as well as the most powerful pushrod engine Porsche had ever produced, the 95 hp (71 kW) flat four. The motorcar offered is a 1965 356 SC coupe that is in incredible fresh restored condition. Finished in its original color

of “Slate Grey” and red leather interior it is hard to imagine a 356 in any other combination. It also features the optional Porsche wood rimmed sport steering wheel which was a handsome option. Mechanically it has just been treated to a complete mechanical rebuild and is now ready for rallying or leisurely driving. Under the care of the current owner for many years, it has been very well taken care of and enjoyed. A certificate of authenticity from Porsche also comes with the car. For the collector of the finest sports cars, this Porsche 356 SC coupe is the greatest culmination of the 356 and is more than worthy of ownin.

Wagen # 19939 Motor # 11838 Car Highlights • Designed by Ferdinand Porsche • Out of the public eye for the past 40 years • Supercharged overhead cam 6 cylinder 6 liter engine • This model was the basis for all following supercharged models including the SSKL

Estimate: $1,200,000 - $1,400,000

N

o European make evokes more clearly the picture of the giant, bloodless, impersonal business machine than Mercedes. The stories of its infinite efficiency in production and competition are abundant, and certainly the ruthless appearance and sound of the cars themselves did little to contradict the legends. There are many stories told about the great Mercedes, and many of those incredible and almost mythical stories are true. Mercedes engineers, for example, did march out to the course before an important Grand Prix race and measure everything in sight; they surveyed the entire course, plotted the radius of every turn and determined it’s degree of bank, calculated the pitch of every grade and length of every straight, made operating tests of the widest possible variety of humidity and barometric pressure readings, and so on. The great Mercedes sports cars of the 1920’s were born from the minds of two great men: Ferdinand Porsche and Paul Daimler. Paul Daimler really began a great legacy as chief engineer starting with his 28/95 horsepower model, but Porsche would continue as chief engineer and take Mercedes to a whole new level. The directors at Daimler Motoren Gesellschaft

(D.M.G.) who produced the Mercedes knew very well that when they hired Ferdinand Porsche in 1922 as their chief engineer to replace Daimler, they were hiring one of the most prolific minds in the automotive engineering industry at the time. Porsche had very high expectations and hopes, but was only with Mercedes for less than six years. Within those few years Porsche managed to design about 65 machines; trucks, tractors, military machines and of course the fantastic K and S series Mercedes cars, which represented then and now a peak of achievement in automobile design. Porsche was first tasked with designing a brand new supercharged passenger car which would have the style, power and reliability that Daimler’s designs had lacked. Within a year he had two models in production, which, although they evolved into the K and S models were then known as the 15/70/100 4 liter and the 24/100/140 6 liter, the numbers representing respectfully taxable horsepower. The basic design features of these cars were embodied and practically developed into the fantastic and legendary 156 m.p.h. SSKL. Of course neither model had the speed of the almost mythical SSKL, but the 6 liter 24/100/140

soon became known for its abundance of power and its excellent hill-climbing and acceleration ability. Un-supercharged, the 6 liter engine had immense amounts of torque which reportedly made a drive down an open road feel like a ride up an extremely fast elevator. With the blower added, a herd of extra horses hit the heads of the pistons and the 6 liter came alive. The illusion of an angry wild beast on the loose was further heightened by the great snarl of the supercharger that instilled fear into those who never listened to the growl of the great blown Mercedes 6 liter at speed and was music to those who became accustomed to the great blown 24/100/140 breed. All the K and S series cars had the same blown single overhead cam six cylinder engine, but

varied in displacement and minor details, but fundamentally from this first great model, the next greatest Mercedes cars were born: the K, S, SS, SSK and the SSKL. The motorcar offered, Wagen # 19939, according to Mercedes Benz of North America, was originally sold and delivered to Mrs. L. Lewis of New York City. Mrs. Lewis sent the chassis to Fleetwood to have the beautiful custom sport phaeton body fitted to the car sometime shortly after she purchased it. Many years later, after Mrs. Jones’s passing, the car sat in a decedent’s carriage house for decades in New Canaan, Connecticut until it was discovered by the most recent owner in the early 1970’s who beautifully restored the car to how it is presented today and then

L O T

once again hid this car from the public eye for another four decades in dry storage until its recent discovery. His family is now selling this great Mercedes so it once again can be appreciated as it was originally intended and not hidden from the world. 19939 presents as well as it did when it was new, with all paint, upholstery and bright work in outstanding condition. All the original hardware to this car is of the upmost quality down to all the small details in which Fleetwood so meticulously designed. With its low wasted Fleetwood body, supercharged 6 liter six cylinder overhead cam engine, and six wire wheels, this car truly represents the beginnings of the legendary Mercedes legacy. The car has had a recent mechanical service and is now ready to launch down the road like a ferocious beast once again and wind its blower to instill fear into the hearts of all that may cross its path.

their styling while others become celebrities’ due to their innate pedigree as a unique car. Still there are other collector cars that are recognized for their preserved condition. These are the cars that live a pampered life of proper storage, regular maintenance, and preservation of its true factory form. While some cars may possess one or even two of these traits, rarely does a car have all three to its credit. That’s what makes this 1988 Ferrari Testarossa so special. With just 14,000 miles on it since new it represents what could be the finest example of this Ferrari in existence.

Ferrari introduced the Testarossa at the 1984 Paris Auto Show where it was a big hit. Power came from a mid-engine lay out coupled to a five-speed manual

transmission. Styling was by Pininfarina, who was no stranger to the art of Italian car design. Everything about the Testarossa was smooth and elegant with the nose and the windshield almost at the same angle. Large vents broke up the sides just behind the doors and the rear was low and menacing with a lateral black trim piece across the entire width of the car. The heartbeat of the Testarossa is the 4.9-liter version of Ferrari’s Boxer-12, which was effectively a 180 degree V12. This magnificent engine produced an astounding 390 prancing horses and also featured a 0–60 time in just 5.2 seconds. Clearly driving a car like this is not for the faint of heart. This example is certainly a very familiar looking Ferrari as it is finished in the very beautiful and classic Ferrari “Rossa Corsa” red from the factory, a color that found its way onto many of the Testarossas built and really would not look more correct in any other color and it’s paired with a tan interior with factory installed red carpets. This is a fully documented 14,000 original mile car with thorough service records with all service receipts from day one; was fully serviced at 11,100 miles in 2010 at a certified Ferrari dealership, comes with 2 piece Schedoni luggage custom made for the Testarossa, comes with a copy of the original bill of sale, and has the original black prancing horse emblem along with the extra Testarossa rear emblem. he Imperial Crown convertible was the top of the line Chrysler . In 1957 Imperial was given a new look eliminating the gunsight taillights of the year before. Virgil Exner the Chrysler designer of the forward look cars used the faux spare tire as the Ghia concept cars had used earlier in the decade. He also increased the size of the fins and introduced the Imperial Crown convertible in the upscale series. The 1958 and 1959 Imperials represented face lifted versions of the 57s and the 59 presented a much more aggressive face with bold vertical teeth on a horizontal grille bar. The Hemi was replaced by a 413 Wedge engine with 10 to 1 compression and a Carter AFB 4 barrel carburetor, it developed 350 BHP.

This car was owned for 30 years by a Florida collector who restored the car in the mid-1990s. The Imperial has always taken top awards. A recent cosmetic upgrade to put it back on the show circuit again consisted of a new convertible top and new leather seats. The paint and chrome have been kept in immaculate condition an it is equipped with air conditioning, power windows and seats . Being one of only 555 built and 15-20 remaining according to the WP Chrysler club register, this is one of the iconic and rarest luxury convertibles of the late 1950s.

1966 ASTON MARTIN VANTAGE SWB SERIES 1SUNROOF COUPE

Chassis # DB6/2754/LN Car Highlights • Fantastic restoration • Original Vantage with triple Webber carbarators and high compressions • Just out of long ownership • Original left drive U.S. delivery car

Estimate: $500,000 - $550,000

S

ir David Brown’s 25-year stewardship of the Aston Martin company, spanning the period from 1947 to 1972, produced some of the greatest models in the storied marque’s long history. Among them, the DB6 is arguably the ultimate culmination of his concept for a grand touring motor company, combining the attractive covered headlamp nose of the DB5 with an aero-efficient “Kamm tail” rear, featuring a small upswept spoiler. The chassis underneath was extended 3.75 inches from the DB5, in order to accommodate, for the first time, a usable pair of rear seats, and it was fitted with wire wheels, power-assisted Girling disc brakes, and a limited-slip rear differential. Body panels were hand-formed from aluminum, in z tradition. The result was something of an “updated DB5” with outstanding performance and increased comfort for long trips. Powered by a Tadek Marek-designed, twincam, alloy six-cylinder engine, the DB6 could carry its passengers in great luxury from 0–60 mph in under 7 seconds, and it had a top speed of 148 mph. Between 1965 and 1970, only 1,327 lucky customers were able to enjoy that feeling. It is no surprise that the DB6 remains among the most enthusiastically sought, collected,

and driven specimens of the Aston Martin breed. The DB6 was also offered with the Vantage package which added a high compression cylinder head, different camshafts, and triple webber carburetors giving the DB6 325 horsepower, 40 horsepower more than the average DB6. The car on offer is a spectacular example with a fresh restoration. Originally sold in the United States, this is an original left hand drive car with a matching numbers engine. The car was exported to Europe in the 1980s and has recently been brought back to its homeland. It was owned by the previous owner in France for many years and is now ready to be introduced to the highway or concours show field of one’s choice.

1954 VINCENT BLACK SHADOW SERIES C

Engine # F10AB/1B/9717 Frame # RC11617B Car Highlights • Only 1,700 Ever Built • Only 1,000 original miles since new • Recently Mechanically Refurbished

Estimate: $150,000 - $200,000

I

n today’s world of assembly lines and mass production, it’s hard to imagine anything being assembled by human hands. With the exception of a few watch companies the world has become a sea of computerized and mechanical processes that can take raw materials and turn them into a prepackaged product that’s consumer ready. There was, however, a time when some products were assembled by true artisans with care and passion taken with every turn of a wrench. One of these products was the Vincent Black Shadow, which was hand-built and precision tuned. The Vincent Black Shadow was assembled with all of the meticulousness of a RollsRoyce. In the early 1950’s the Italians had Ferrari, Maserati, and Ducati, the Germans had Mercedes and BMW and the British

had Jaguar and Vincent. All were very successful in racing, but one thing that the Italians and Germans did not have was the record for both the fastest street legal motorcar and motorcycle. The British had the Jaguar XK-120 with a top speed of 127 MPH and they had the Vincent Black Shadow with an incredible top speed, just shy of the XK-120, of 125 MPH. The Black Shadow Series C is one of the most spectacular machines ever created. Offered here is a Vincent Black Shadow Series C that has been recently discovered after a 45 year ownership that is in entirely spectacular original condition that has been cleaned and maintained with just 1,000 miles since new. It has been completely inspected mechanically and indeed runs today as it did when new, but without

disturbing any of the original cosmetic finish on the engine or bike itself. The Black Shadow introduced many innovations to the world of motorcycles including a sprung rear sub-frame, a unit constructed stressed engine, and the use of aluminum alloys to save weight. Power for this Black Shadow comes from a 998 cc V-Twin engine that has a distinctive growl. This Shadow is finished in its original gleaming black and has a commanding stance from any angle. The rarity and reputation of the Vincent Black Shadow makes it a motorcycle collectors dream. With less than 1,700 ever built it is perhaps the ultimate British motorcycle. Prospective collectors of fine machines should look this one over in order to fully appreciate its originality and attention to detail. This is perhaps the finest example of a Vincent Black shadow in the world: It’s the most powerful version series C, it has 1000 original miles, and has all original paint and upholstery. The fact that this bike actually exists in this condition is simply amazing.

THE 1967 EXEMPLAR 1 CONCEPT CAR

Car Highlights • Designed by Mario Rivelli de Beaumont • Built by Carrozziere Coggiola of Torino, Italy • Commissioned by The Bridgeport Brass Company and Copper Development Association • Shown at the 1968 and 1969 New York Auto Shows

Estimate: $1,200,000 - $1,800,000

T

he 1960’s was a time of change. Social, economic and technological advances were made that would change the world forever. The Exemplar 1 concept car built in 1967 exemplifies this idea of change and technological advancement that enveloped the entire decade of the 1960’s and only the best were involved in the design and development of this amazing car that was an extreme example of what the 1960’s had to offer in terms of fantastically beautiful artistic and technological design and advancement. Born in Rome, Italy in 1907, Mario Revelli de Beaumont was an incredible designer with the eye that would come to design some of the most incredible automotive designs of the 20th century. When only 17 years of age he designed a racing motorbike which brought him victory at the very first Coppa del Mondo competition in Monza in 1925. He then took up automobile design with immense passion and submitted designs to some of the best coachbuilders of the period; Giovanni Farina, Ghia, Casaro, the Carrozzeria Moderna, Sala and finally Castagna. Between 1929 and 1931 he collaborated with Fiat’s special coachwork section and returned many times after for

freelance work. He then built a number of bodies on Rolls Royce chassis, he designed a racing body for the Maserati 1500 and the star-studded Tressi-MonacoRevelli. He was also responsible for the 1937 Lancia ‘Farina-Revelli’ Cabriolet. In between he designed and patented many special automobile accessories such as the ‘adjustable deflector window for automobile doors’, the window winding mechanism, and a vertical lock. After the war he resumed collaboration with Pininfarina and Fiat and later Cansa and for Simca in Paris, then he went on to design the Revelli-Figoni ‘two-volume’ sedan and to collaborate with General Motors. With his immense experience working with some of the most important and recognizable coach builders of the 20th century, the result was Exemplar 1 in 1967. Mr. Revelli designed Exemplar 1 for Coggiola Carrozziere of Turin, Italy to build and was commissioned by the Bridgeport Brass Company Division of National Distillers and Chemical Corporation in cooperation with the Copper Development Association. Coggiola Carrozziere was a coachbuilder that was formed by Sergio Coggiola who was also a great designer who gained his skill working for the well known

coachbuilder Pietro Frua in Turin, Italy for 25 years. He helped build many of Frua’s great designs such as the Maserati Mistral, the AC Frua spyder and multiple one off Maserati A6G’s and A6GCS’s. Towards the end of the 1960’s when Frua began to grow older, Coggiola and multiple other Frua employees left Frua to form Coggiola Carrozziere in 1966 and built many great cars such as the Pontiac CF 428 concept car and of course the great Exemplar 1.

The Purpose of Exemplar 1 was to present to the automotive world with engineering innovations for greater safety, comfort, performance and design, and to demonstrate new decorative applications for copper and bronze. The interior of Exemplar 1 is a great example of its extreme attention to the “future” and its great attention to detail and design put forth by Mr. Revelli and Coggiola. A broad spectrum of eleven distinct hues in standard copper alloys were applied and they range

from reddish orange of copper through the golds and browns of brass and bronze to the soft silver colors of the coppernickel and nickel silver alloys making the interior something of extraordinary beauty. Exemplar 1 features twin-tiered instrument and control panels of polished copper with copper garnish and a padded dash. Almost everything in the interior of Exemplar 1 is trimmed or made of copper or bronze including the tunnel consol, the steering wheel column and horn button are trimmed in copper, “A” pillar and header moldings, scuff plates and the power seats and door panels are trimmed in copper making this an interior like no other. Most of all, the exterior design of Exemplar 1 is nothing short of fantastic. The wheels are custom brass plated Borrani wire wheels with special Revelli designed knock offs, the rear window has brass shutters that really give great attention to the use of alternative metals and give the car an extremely fantastic look, and it has a “panoramic glass roof” that gives the interior and exterior a very beautiful and futuristic feel. With lines created by Revelli resembling a Lamborghini Miura distinguished by the delta shape and the look of motion; emphasized by the long sloping hood, the low belt line, the short rear deck and its low streamlined profile paired with copper and bronze trim, bumpers and wheels, Exemplar 1 is a concept car that was conceived with the intention of wowing the public and bringing great attention to copper and copper alloys.

shift , also featuring a positive traction rear end with a gear ratio of 3.42, and heavy duty suspension. Exemplar 1 is clearly a car designed for both beauty and outstanding performance.

In addition to using copper for styling and decoration, which fell nothing short of amazing, Exemplar 1 took full advantage of the outstanding engineering properties of these metals in the late 1960’s for greater safety and performance. Exemplar 1 features copper disc brakes, copper brake lines, dual polished copper radiators, one for cooling the engine and the other for the air conditioning, and copper is also used throughout the electrical system for ignition, lighting, instrumentation, and supplying power to the numerous accessory motors throughout the car. Mechanically this car is powerful , based on a modified Buick Grand Sport chassis, with its polished copper trimmed 430 cubic inch V-8 engine with 360 horsepower at 5000 rpm and a compression ratio of 10.25 to 1. The engine is paired with an automatic transmission with a copper floor consol

When the car was completed by Coggiola sometime late in 1967, Exemplar 1 was shipped to the United States to the Bridgeport Brass Company in Bridgeport, Connecticut where it was unveiled to the leaders of the National Distillers and Chemical Corporation, the National Copper Association and to the public. It was then toured throughout the United States to demonstrate and promote the use of copper and copper alloys. In both 1968 and 1969 Exemplar 1 was shown at the New York Auto Show where it gained huge attention for both its radical use of copper, brass and bronze throughout the car and its

outstanding beauty conceived by the eye of the great Mario Revelli, before being decommissioned by the National Distillers and Chemical Corporation in or around 1969 or early 1970. Exemplar 1 was on track to be destroyed because it was only a concept and never inspected and accepted by the department of motor vehicles for the road. Mr. Herman Steinkraus, the president of the

Bridgeport Brass Company, decided Exemplar 1 was too beautiful to be destroyed so he purchased the car from the National Distillers and Chemical Corporation in 1970 and took the car to his 25 acre estate in Darien, Connecticut where the car was kept undercover and out of daylight for the next 20 years. Mr. Steinkraus passed away in the late

1980’s and the car was then sold by his estate to Manny and George Dragone of Dragone Classic Motorcars where the car has been a part of their personal collection for the past 25 years. Now finally being restored, Exemplar 1 is being put back to its original beauty as it was envisioned by the great Mario Revelli de Beaumont who took his life experience,

bouncing between great coachbuilders such as Touring, Figoni, Pininfarina, Casaro and Castagna and focused his trained eye into creating a work of art out of copper brass and bronze, with the help of Coggiola Carrozziere, that truly was the culmination of his life’s work: Exemplar 1. Offered for acquisition at the Dragone Fall Auction on October 17.

alter Chrysler had a car for every man during the 1930s. From an inexpensive Plymouth or Dodge to a mid-level DeSoto, there was something for everyone. Representing the very top was the Imperial from Chrysler, a car that rivaled the finest Packard, Pierce Arrow, or Duesenberg of the day. Chrysler’s Imperials ran on huge wheelbases and many even featured coachwork from some of the finest body builders of the day. The big Imperials from Chrysler were the car of choice for America’s captains of industry and movie stars alike. Not only were they long and elegant, but interior appointments made for some of the most comfortable cars ever built. Indeed, if one wished to be a member of societies’ elite, arrival in one of Chrysler’s Imperials all but guaranteed

a place in the higher echelons of society. Offered here is a spectacular example of this most prestigious motorcar, a Custom Imperial with body by LeBron, one of the world’s foremost coachbuilders in the classic era. This Custom Imperial is equipped with a specially designed LeBaron tufted arm chair leather interior that makes it unique in the world of the automobile. This LeBaron CL is one of just 49 produced and is also one of the 16 known to exist in the present day. Its history is also known back to its original owner, Mr. McGraw and it then went to Paul Stern and was finally acquired by Mr. David Huckins, a well-known collector of fine Chrysler cars. While in the stable of Mr. Huckins, this Imperial CL was treated to a full and complete restoration that saw every nut and bolt replaced,

refurbished, or refinished. Indeed, Mr. Huckins spared no expense on every detail in returning this grand motorcar back to its original factory condition. This elegant car almost has a dual personality as its topdown position carries the look of a Sport Phaeton, yet its roll-up windows allow for the look of a closed weather car. Most spectacular is the LeBaron design for the interior wood trim that carries beautiful accents of a most elaborate design. In keeping with its persona, power for this CL comes from Chrysler’s large 385 cubicinch high-compression Red Head inline eight featuring 135 horsepower. The engine compartment is nicely detailed and runs as good as it looks. Chrysler’s Imperial cars are legendary. These magnificent motorcars represent a time when power and status was rated by the numbers in the bank and the number of cylinders in one’s car. With its fine LeBaron Coachwork, unique tufted armchair interior, and smooth eight-cylinder power, this fully recognized CCCA classic is a car that’s ready for the open road or the concours show field.

erman engineering has always been a hallmark in the world of excellence. Whether it’s the common Volkswagen or an incredible Auto Union Type C with its massive V-16 engine, the standard set by precision innovation is one that many have aspired to achieve. Certainly one of Germany’s best is Mercedes Benz. As one of the foundational members in the automotive world, they have produced some of the finest luxury cars known. In the present day the Mercedes Benz name is still one of the most widely recognized names for excellence in motoring as the company continues to build great cars. When Mercedes began building their fine grand touring cars they truly hit the mark with a series of innovative cars that literally went on to define the GT experience. The very pinnacle of this heritage is found in the 500 SLC, a car that featured, power, speed, and luxury beyond compare. Indeed, the 500 SLC was the realization of six years of development from Mercedes with an emphasis on aerodynamic styling and weight reduction through the use of lighter alloy metals. Offered here is an outstanding example of the Mercedes Benz heritage, a beautiful 1980 500 SLC that is unrestored and in nicely preserved condition. Finished in gleaming silver this is a car that has been obviously maintained with a great degree of care. The 500 SLC was built only for the European market as a true super GT

car with performance and luxury in the same package. This car is also an original condition car that has had only two owners since new and has always been garaged. The interior is classic Mercedes Benz finished in blue leather with fine woodwork and a center console with a beautiful wood shifter. This Mercedes also sports a sun roof for open air driving. Under the hood is the massive and finely tuned 5 liter V-8 with an output of 237 horsepower. Despite its 3,340 weight the top speed for the 500 SLC is still rated at 140 mph. In terms of originality this Mercedes Benz 500 SLC is a car that has been well-maintained and is in superb condition. In the end the 500 SLC remained in production from 1971 to 1981. There are certainly not many supercars that can lay claim to a production run that long, but the 500 SLC was a car that performance minded people loved and proudly upheld the fine reputation of Mercedes Benz. There are very few collector cars that offer stellar performance with extreme personal luxury in the same package, but the Mercedes Benz 500 SLC does that and more. This is a car that is at home with a drive around town or on extended weekend tours. Prospective buyers of German performance automobiles should look this example over closely in order to appreciate just how nice a personal luxury car can be.

1931 CHRYSLER CD8 ROADSTER

Chassis # 7505332 Car Highlights • Factory High-Performance Chrysler • Rear Rumble Seat • Older Restoration

Estimate: $70,000 - $75,000

F

ast has always been better in the world of the motorcar. Even as early as the 1920s Model Ts were being torn apart and rebuilt as racecars for both dirt and board tracks. Many manufacturers saw this as an opportunity to sneak a car into production that carried just a few more ponies under the hood than the average car. It was in this way that Packard built their grand speedsters and Auburn had their factory speedster as well. Not too be outdone, Chrysler came up with a hot little number in 1931 that may have looked like the rest, but was actually a performance car in every sense of the word. Indeed, when the Chrysler CD 8 hit the road there was sure to be gravel and dust flying behind it.

The Chrysler CD 8 Roadster was built as a “factory hot rod” with a powerful 100 horsepower inline eight cylinder engine and sporty looks. Chrysler built only 1,462 CD 8 Roadsters, which makes them a fairly rare car in the present day. This example is in good condition and wears an older restoration that has held up well. This CD 8 is also equipped wood spoke artillery wheels that are complete with wide white wall tires. Touring on a fine fall day is a treat for passengers in its rear rumble seat. The elegant design of the CD 8 is clearly evident in its bi-plane bumpers, especially at the rear where they split to hold the rear mounted spare tire. The interior is finished in a tan motif that looks just right on a car of this vintage. The CD 8 roadster is also a car that looks great with the top up or

down. This is a sharp car from any angle, but its real claim to fame is its performance. In a day when most cars were downright slow, the CD 8 could blast by like other cars were standing still. The power and spirit of performance of this Chrysler factory hot rod makes it a special car. It also features Chrysler reliability and stunning good looks. For a car that’s big on speed and great for touring in a hurry, the CD 8 roadster is the car to have.

1966 CADILLAC ELDORADO CONVERTIBLE

Chassis # E6239809 Car Highlights • Fine American Luxury • Nicely Preserved and Well-Cared for • Last Year for the rear-wheel drive Eldorado

Estimate: $65,000 - $70,000

f all of the fabulous cars to wear there Cadillac name, there was one that stood far and above the rest. Broughams, Fleetwoods, and DeVilles have all been members of the Cadillac family, but the most enduring and successful name to ever carry the Cadillac badge would have to be the Eldorado. Named after the mythical lost city of gold, the Eldorado title carried Cadillac through ten generations of great cars that were at the very pinnacle of style and design in the American automobile. Introduced in 1953, the Eldorado was an expensive car that was long, low, and was as flamboyant as any car from the 1950s could be. Each generation of the Eldorado seemed to grow longer and lower and a close look at its styling through the generations actually reveals the timeline of American car design over several decades. As Cadillac crossed over into the 1960s, the Eldorado was still a large car with opulent décor and an impressive ride. Specifically, the sixth generation built for 1965 and 1966 was still true to its roots with an immense 129.5inch wheelbase and a 429 cubic-inch V-8 engine. Cadillac’s fantastic cars for 1966 helped the company to enjoy its best sales year ever with over 200,000 cars finding new owners. The 1966 Eldorado convertible offered here is a stunning example of this fine American classic finished in Sable Black

with a white interior and a black top. This is a fully restored car that presents as new in all areas. The black paint gleams with perfection on this large car that is nicely enhanced by Cadillac’s full wheel hubcaps and period correct white wall tires. The body is factory straight and all trim and brightwork is nicely polished. The interior carries all of the fine attributes that a Cadillac is known for and this one is even equipped with a tilt steering wheel. The engine compartment is nicely detailed with correct colors and this is an Eldorado that runs as well as it looks. Power for this Eldorado comes from its large V-8 that is more than capable of cruising at modern highway speeds. The power operated top makes touring easy and the Eldorado is one car that looks great with the top up or down. Cadillac has always been the nation’s premier builder of fine luxury cars and this Eldorado with its excellent restoration and immense size is a car that sits at the very heart of classic elegance. As mystical as the lost city of gold itself, the Cadillac Eldorado carries a similar allure with its fine luxury and smooth ride. For touring in fine fashion or gathering its fair share of attention on the show field, this Eldorado is a car that brings back a time when size mattered. For the collector of fine American luxury cars, this Cadillac is ready for show or go.

here is just something marvelous about being able to drive around with the top down. Whether it’s a summer day as the sun sets or the feel of the crisp clean air of a fall day, the convertible allows us to take in the sights, smells, and sounds as we motor down the road in style. Of course there are many car companies that built a convertible, but very few managed to design such beauty and comfort as Cadillac. Never a stranger to classic and bold lines, the Cadillac name has been a symbol of excellence on the motoring landscape since 1902. In the decades that followed Cadillac developed some of the best engineering in the world as they built cars that were not only beautiful, but mechanically reliable in every sense of the word. Indeed, gorgeous phaetons, sexy roadsters, opulent town cars, and stunning limousines have all carried the Cadillac crest. In the last full year of production before World War II, Cadillac had one of their best years ever with all-new styling that gave their cars a look like no other on the road. This success continued for 1942 with only minor styling upgrades. The war clouds were on the horizon, but before the storm came Cadillac built some great cars for 1942. Offered here is a superb example of one of Cadillac’s best, a 1942 Series 62 Convertible in its original condition. A

lovely patina graces this Cadillac that still has many of its factory markings. Finished in Cadillac’s Marlboro Blue, the years have been kind and it shows many touch ups that have marked the passage of time. The Series 62 rode on a 126-inch wheelbase and the convertible weighed in at a hefty 4,055 pounds giving a ride like a magic carpet. The interior is also original show s the normal wear associated with a car of this vintage, but is certainly worthy of a preservation class. Cadillac’s

impeccable styling is continued in the finely sculptured dashboard that features a full set of gauges and a large centermounted chrome grille. This Series 62 also features a factory radio and a deluxe heater. Power for this convertible comes from Cadillac’s dependable 346 cubicinch 90-degree L-head V-8 engine rated at 150 horsepower. Most impressive is that this Cadillac carries a set of factory wheel locks, a very rare option. The overall fit and finish of this Series 62 convertible coupe is solid and ready to drive “as-is” or also serves as a great start for a complete restoration.

1941 BUICK ROADMASTER CONVERTIBLE

Chassis # 14I2I387 Car Highlights • Classic 1940s Convertible • Beautiful Red Leather Interior • Excellent Restoration

Estimate: $90,000 - $110,000

I

n the early 1930s, Buick’s names for their cars were limited to model or series numbers that didn’t exactly give the impression of grandeur. As the decade moved on series and model numbers began to give way to such alluring names like Special, Century, Limited, and Roadmaster. It was then that buyers began to identify with Buick in terms of its illustrious image as a mid-priced car. As a member of the General Motors camp, Buick had always held an important market niche and with its prices just below the exalted Cadillac, buyers knew they could count on Buick for good quality cars with a lot more flare than the average Ford, Chevrolet or Chrysler. As Buick crossed the decade into the 1940s, it did so with immense success. Producing an astounding 310,995 cars for the calendar year, Buick was America’s fourth most popular in America. The following year of 1941 was a banner year for Buick with the company breaking all previous records with 316,251 cars built and Buick once again retained its fourth place standing in the industry. Not only was it a great year for Buick, but also for Buick buyers as well. For 1941, Buick offered a grand total of 26 separate body styles on four different series of cars. Styling for Buick’s 1941 line was also tasteful with a revised grille treatment that was smooth and headlights that were now completely enclosed within the fenders. Clearly, the motoring public liked what they saw in the Buick’s 1941 line-

up and with their dazzling model names no one had any trouble remembering what they were. Offered here is a wonderful piece of Buick’s history, a 1941 Roadmaster Series 76 C Convertible. Long, sleek, and beautiful are just a few words that describe Buick’s Roadmaster convertible for 1941. This example is finished in beautiful black and is a fine running car that has been driven regularly and recently restored. The fit and finished of this Roadmaster is absolutely stunning with a black convertible top with red piping and an interior finished in fine red leather. The engine compartment is also nicely detailed and truly demonstrates Buick’s well-earned reputation for mechanical reliability. The 76 C Convertible is a heavy car weighing in at 4,109 pounds and riding on a 126-inch wheelbase, which gives the Roadmaster the name it deserves in terms of a smooth ride. new for $1,457 at a time when Chevrolet’s Special Deluxe convertible sold for just $949. Power for this Roadmaster comes from Buick’s tried and proven overhead valve inline eight-cylinder rated at 165 horsepower, but the Rloadmaster came equipped with dual downdraft carburetors which gave it more pickup and speed than the average Buick. It is also fitted with a power top for easy touring on a summer day. Buick’s cars have been a mainstay in the American automobile market for over 100 years. As a foundation member of the automotive landscape, Buick has given us some of the best cars on the road. This 1941 Roadmaster Convertible is a car that takes us back to the grand years of Buick with large cars that spoke to a different era of the automobile. In the end, Buick would build only 1,845 76 C convertibles and a mere 24 more for export in 1941 making this example a rare car indeed. This Buick will make a fine addition to any collection as it offers Buick’s reliability coupled with a rare and distinctive body style.

Dragone Auctions reserves the right to impose a late charge of up to a maximum of 18% per annum (or the maximum rate permitted by law, if less than 18%) on any portion of the Purchase Price if the Buyer does not make timely payment of the Purchase Price when due under these Conditions of Sale. All payments must be made by wire transfer, certified bank check, cashier’s check or with prior approval of Dragone Auctions’ financial department, personal or company check. Unless otherwise agreed to by Dragone Auctions in writing, Dragone Auctions will not accept payment of any portion of the Purchase Price from any party other than the Buyer, title to a Vehicle does not pass to the Buyer, and the Vehicle will not be released to the Buyer, until good and cleared funds in the amount of the full Purchase Price are received by Dragone Auctions in accordance with the General Conditions.
