President’s Message On behalf of the Markdale Agricultural Society I would like to welcome you to the 158th Markdale Fall Fair. It is hard to believe that what started as an event by a group of local farmers showing their herds and crops has grown into the wide range of exhibits and competitions you see today. The Markdale Fair continues each year to teach the next generation the importance agriculture in our lives. As the community changes, we look to add and change ideas to encourage new members to join in this annual tradition. Whether it be homecraft exhibits, livestock shows or the heavy horse or ATV pull, there is something for everyone. All of this, of course, would not be possible without the society members and volunteers who give countless hours towards the organizing and operation of the fair. Our exhibits and livestock shows would not be possible without the participants who dedicate their time into bringing animals, produce, crafts or cherished antiques to the fair. I would like to extend a sincere “Thank you to all” for bringing life to our park and reminding us of our heritage. Finally, a heartfelt “Thank You” all of our sponsors and fair book advertisers -without your support, this fair would not be possible. To our fair visitors, please support the businesses who support us, and make our community the special place it is. I invite you to join in the fun at this year’s fair!
Ruth Ann Hellyer President

Senior Ambassador’s Message As the 158th Markdale Fall Fair approaches, I would like to reflect on my year as the Fair Ambassador. My year started the moment I was announced the 2015/2016 Markdale Fair Ambassador. My weekend at the fair consisted of handing out ribbons at events, showing my heifer in the 4H Invitational Show, viewing all the wonderful exhibits, as well as watching the horse show, pet show, ATV pull and the heavy horse pull. I loved being so involved in the fair and spending the weekend with Sydney, the Junior Ambassador. We had a great time participating in the Markdale Santa Clause parade, and being at the Trivia nights to help fundraising for the fair. My adventure continued when I attended the District Meetings and the OAAS convention at the Royal York Hotel where I had the pleasure of meeting over 90 other fair ambassadors. I also participated in the Ontario Miss Mid-West Pageant and the CNE Ambassador of the Fairs competition. I have so many great memories from my experience as the 2015/2016 Markdale Fair Ambassador! Thank you to everyone who made this opportunity possible for me and everyone who made my year unforgettable. I would also like to thank the amazing volunteers for their hard work that makes the fair possible; you are greatly appreciated. I wish the best of luck to the upcoming Ambassadors. See you at the Fair!
Taylor Campbell 2015/2016 Markdale Fall Fair Senior Ambassador
Junior Ambassador’s Message Every year I look forward to fair season. I enjoy going to many fairs with my calf and competing in 4H. I was excited last year to compete in another part of the Markdale Fair, like the Junior Ambassador competition. I have always enjoyed helping out and volunteering with the Markdale Fair. But this past year, by actually representing the fair, I really began to see how much work goes into making a fair happen. There are lots of events, fundraisers and meetings to make it all happen. It was a lot of fun to attend the two district 10 meetings with Taylor, and meet all the others who represent their own fairs. I have had a lot of fun telling everyone about the fair and how important it is to our community and that it has a strong history. I look forward to representing Markdale at the Little Miss Mid-West competition in July. I’ve had a great time with Taylor and I’d like to say thank you to everyone on the Fair Board who welcomed me and encouraged me. I was nervous last year, but looking back now it has been so much fun and know that there was nothing to be nervous about. We live in a great little community with a big heart and I am proud to have represented the Markdale Fall Fair this past year. Good luck to the 2017 Ambassadors and I wish you all the best. You will have so much fun. Thank you again for this great opportunity,
Sydney Martin 2015/2016 Markdale Fall Fair Junior Ambassador
