President’s Message

The Directors and Members of the Markdale Agricultural Society wish to welcome you to the 159th Fair. As Canada celebrates its sesquicentennial, we look back on what makes our part of the country unique. One event that takes place annually across the country, and here in Markdale, is the celebration of community and heritage through the local fair. The fair highlights rural traditions, produce and livestock raised in the area. This year, the Markdale Fall Fair will celebrate Canada’s 150th birthday and next year the fair’s 160th Anniversary. Milestones, that we all have been involved in creating. We in the Markdale area, are surrounded by rolling farmland, rivers and small lakes and from this landscape we gather together the materials needed to create the exhibits or nurture the animals that we show each year at our fair. Our handcraft, flower, photography and antique sections are some of the largest in the District. Creativity is definitely evident in the woodworking and the quilt classes. Then there is our little people – they always amaze everyone with the effort they put into their exhibits. I wish to extend a special ‘Thank You’ to all the volunteers who ensure that our fair is a success. The Directors and Conveners deserve a special Thanks for their leadership and commitment. Please regularly visit our website – www.markdalefallfair.ca to keep current on the events taking place, now and at fair time. To celebrate Canada’s 150th this year – bring an exhibit, bring a friend, volunteer or just tell someone your favourite part of the fair. Come to the fair on August 25, 26, 27 to visit with family, friends and neighbours, it is the best way to see some of Canada’s best!

Senior Ambassador’s Message Looking back on my time as the Markdale Fall Fair Senior Ambassador, I am humbled to have been a part of the 159 year-old rural tradition of the Markdale Fall Fair. My experience began when I was crowned the 2016/2017 Markdale Fall Fair Ambassador, and it has been an unforgettable journey since then. Throughout the weekend, I was able to watch the events at the Fair, meet the exhibitors, and hand out ribbons for the pet show, the baby show, the 4-H beef and dairy cattle shows, the horse shows and competitions, the ATV pull, and the heavy horse pull. I was amazed at all of the wonderful exhibits on the arena floor as well. It was a fantastic weekend, and I loved being part of Markdale's rural traditions and spending time with Megan, the Junior Ambassador. I was able to attend other functions throughout the year as Ambassador, including Trivia Night and two District 10 meetings, where I got to meet many other Ambassadors from Grey-Bruce. I am looking forward to competing in the Ontario Miss Midwest Pageant in July and the CNE Ambassador of the Fairs competition in August. I am thankful to have had this opportunity to learn a lot about myself, agricultural traditions, and my community. Thank you so much to everyone who has made my year as Markdale Fall Fair Ambassador amazing, it has been an incredible experience. Thank you to all of our outstanding sponsors, committee, volunteers, participants, and community members for showing your support for the Markdale Fall Fair. Good luck to all future Ambassadors! See you at the Fair!

Katharine Teeter 2016/2017 Markdale Fall Fair Senior Ambassador

Junior Ambassador’s Message My name is Megan Macdonald and I am the 2017 Markdale Fall Fair Junior Ambassador. If I was to describe how much work goes into the fair, I would have to say a ton! Thanks to all the volunteers that help out. I had lots of fun at the District 10 meetings and met lots of wonderful people. But what made it even more fun was that I could spend it all with my cousin Katherine. It was really fun to be the Junior Ambassador while she was the Senior Ambassador. At the District 10 meetings we have done everything from decorate cupcakes to yoga and visited Miller’s Dairy in Creemore. It was lots of fun. I am really excited to go to the Miss Mid West Pageant this July in Mildmay. I hear it will be tons of fun. To be honest there isn’t anything I would have done differently to be here. I want to wish Katherine best of luck at the CNE this August, and best of luck to this year’s contestants for Fair Ambassador. You will have so much fun.
