Dragoș Dogaru is a product and applied arts designer, member of the Fine Artists’ Union of Romania, with his studio based in Bucharest – the city of his inspiration, being also the initiator of the #artdecobucharest project. Co-author and coordinator of the first architectural guides and albums documenting heritage and elements of architectural language on this topic, transposes this savoir-faire in his design works, exhibited at several editions of Paris Design Week (2017, 2022), Romanian Design Week (2015, 2017, 2023) and also Berlin Design Week (2024).
Graduate of technological and mechanical engineering studies in Romania and Denmark, his multidisciplinary approach aims to integrate all aspects of interactive and customizable user design, together with multifunctionality, which underpins his design concept.
Starting from lighting design (Cuplo™ 360, Colors, Vasa, Alma, Moody, Nude Collection, Moody Nude) and furniture design (PLAYSTRAP™ modular sofas, BILLIPLAY™ modular shelves, BENCHY tables and banquettes) to graphic design and applied arts (Collection 2017, #opartdeco 2021), he relies on a consistent approach, in a playful geometric key, with surprising colors, textures and shapes.
Dogaru Floor lamp series_ Cuplo™ 360
With a minimalist and geometric approach, inspired by the Bauhaus design philosophy, the Cuplo™ 360 modular lamp system aspires to an optimal ratio of functionality and design. Cuplo™ 360 is implemented in floor lamps and adjustable illumination systems, having a lightweight and modular structure. Materials: stainless steel, polyacetal POM, vacuum formed plastic.
Product designed in 2013
A lamp should only be useful and purely decorative? Why not also tactile - to interact with it? To be able to place it wherever you want! Choose your color of the knitt, light-up the lamp and set it where you want. Want more light? Open the zipper! Materials: acrylic globe interior, knitted cotton textile exterior, fitted with zipper.
Cuplo™ Vasa emphasizes the original state of the materials – the transparency of clear borosilicate glass, the paper whites handcrafted of folded origami paper and the natural wood, entwining the fragile geometry of the paper decoration with the protection of an essentially brittle material - glass. Materials: borosilicate glass inner vase and main body, base of beech/ash wood, LED illumination system, remote.
Cuplo™ Moody, the ambient lamp that you can place, adjust and decorate exactly how you want! The lamp can be used as an ambient lamp in 3 positions: desk or night stand lamp, pendant light focused downwards and respectively upwards. Materials: borosilicate glass, stainless steel clamp, extractable plastic diffusion screen, LED system with infrared remote.
Modular, colorful, adaptable and easy to assemble. Or how you could improve a shelf system to make it multifunctional and interactive. BILLIPLAY™ is a modular shelf system with no tools assembly that even a kid could assemble. You choose the structure elements by dimensions, the geometric sliding door models and their colors. And you put it together. Or reshape it. As easy as that. Material: Valchromat 9/16 mm

Graphic models and textile design collection 2017
This collection of graphic models and textile design is inspired by the architecture of the first half of the XXth century and that of Bucharest in between the World Wars. The inspiration comes from the Bauhaus geometry and Art Deco elements, that can be found in plenty of instances in many of Bucharest’s buildings facades, gates, ironwork and architectural details. Materials: Raw & dyed natural jacquard weaving 700 g/sqm

Inspired by the traditional carpentry joint of the Romanian stool, intertwined with the modularity, material finishing, color scheme and personalization options (wood choice, lacquer color finish and leather/textile covers) of Scandinavian furniture design, the project aims adapting a Nordic inspiration trend with the local furniture manufacturing heritage. Materials: pine timber seat and legs, MDF board underside, natural leather strap-on covers.

Inspired by the Art Deco heritage and savoire faire of inter-war Romania and at the same time by the struggle and genius of Nikola Tesla, the limited edition numbered series of the Cuplo Nude lamps, crafted and assembled in Bucharest, highlight the contrast between the fragility and clarity of borosilicate glass and the beauty of light. No more shading, just pure light - shining on and through the brittle clarity of glass, adorned with a touch of brass.
