Gordinho “Cork-Board”

Goblin Stool-Chair Acquired from the local Hob Goblin, Stool-Chair offers support and balance in a variety of ways for the customer who has had a few too many.

First Aid Splinter Kit With the generally perceived hidden function of a needle being used to extract splinters from the skin, the First Aid Splinter Kit was conceived. Designed mainly for the workshops, the kit comes with a lighter to sterilise the needle, which keeps its sewing reference by being threaded through fabric.

An organic aesthetic is introduced to the conventional office desk by the “Cork-Board” It takes its inspiration from a standard cork wine bottle. Red and White pins determine the urgency of the note.

For an aesthetically pleasing experience, the border of the box is a golden rectangle, to frame the contents of the splinter kit.

In-Book

Family Donkey A portable donkey that lives in the home, for family members to deposit and organise their objects lying around the house. The portable saddle-bag aesthetic of the design, has plenty of room for it to be flexible in its usage, being open to interpretation by the user of how to interact with the piece.

Cable-Drum “Cable-Drum” is inspired by the observation of objects in an industrial context and a reinterpretation of their intended purpose by Matthew Hilton with his “I-beam”. “Cable-Drum” brings elegance and thoughtful detailing to the standard cable drum, with a language suitable for the Hilton range. The “Cable-Drum”, has no straight forward function, offering the user to discover how to interact with the piece.

Corian +1 (Broken Crockery)

Family Donkey

Ink Well Corian + 1 other material that would achieve a rational bond, was an investigative material-led project. A reuse and reinterpretation of broken crockery, the limited edition range emphasises the contrast in texture and in properties. This can result in the user discovering the harmony of 2 materials used to create unique objects.

The cork Ink Well relates to the traditional understanding of an ink well in terms of aesthetics and importance to the individual´s writing tool. The cork keeps the tip of the pen from drying out, due to its insulating properties.

The second year of this course was the first real opportunity to experience a taste of what a designer has to go through when working on a brief in collaboration with a company. Important lessons were learned, like taking into account the production, commercial and marketing side of a design brief and having a realistic approach to concepts with an awareness of the market and social behaviour. With a personal interest in social interaction, the work in this Portfolio plays with perceived notions of how we interact with objects, emphasising objects, allowing the consumer the opportunity to come up with his/her own additional interpretations. This belief is illustrated throughout the portfolio, enjoy.
