I am constantly asked to recommend places to eat in Glasgow so I thought I would make it easy for myself and produce a guide which highlights the best reviewed eateries in the city. Whether you are looking for seafood or pasta, tapas or steak, Chinese or Indian food, you'll find somewhere to whet your appetite here. his classy looking Italian restaurant is both contemporary and inviting. Exposed stone walls and colourful paintings, a wood burning stove and some framed black and white football memorabilia create a charming, but modern look. At Amaretto, they offer variety and value. The menus include authentic stonebaked pizzas and mouthwatering pasta dishes as well as perfectly grilled steaks and fresh seafood. Immediately adjacent is 'the bar @ amaretto' which also has a contemporary, luxurious look with comfortable leather sofas, leather banquettes, framed images of Italy, chandeliers and an outdoor area. It has a slightly lighter menu with breakfasts, antipasti, pizza, pasta, burgers and fish & chips on offer.
I have enjoyed very good pizzas in many restaurants in many countries. So please be assured that when I say Amaretto's pizza was the best I have eaten the quality must be of the very highest standard. TripAdvisor

he Amber Regent is not only regarded as one of Glasgow's best Chinese restaurants it quite simply is one of the cities best restaurants. It is renowned for the quality of its classical Cantonese and Szechuan cuisine, which includes the best Scottish produce mixed with traditional Chinese ingredients. Owned by Andy Chung, it remains a family business, with a family ethos of polite attentive service and sumptuous food. The Amber Regent is a restaurant with a heart, with customers returning time and time again. Whether you fancy Aromatic Duck or Beef Fillet in Oyster Sauce or prefer to let your server recommend a few dishes, one thing is for sure you won't be disappointed. 6

he Anchor Line is set in a stunning and completely restored grade A1 listed building and its décor pays homage to its former incarnation as an international shipping office. Today the bar and restaurant celebrates the grand ocean voyages of the 1920s and 30s from Glasgow to New York with its stylish art-deco inspired décor and walls filled with shipping memorabilia. Its menu offers the best of Scottish combined with the flavours of the USA. Think fresh oysters, lobster and scallops, the finest scotch beef, ribs and burgers, as well as an extensive and creative cocktail list and craft beers from both sides of the pond. It's definitely Glasgow's answer to a New York style classic bar – the ultimate place to hang out.
The staff were excellent, unobtrusive yet attentive when required, friendly but professional. The main of lamb was exquisite, done to perfection and full of flavour. All in all a first rate experience - well worth a visit. Dinertec, Evening Times

risaig is a smartly presented Scottish bar and restaurant, located within the courtyard of the historic Merchant Square. Arisaig has not only a cobbled terrace, which is perfect for people watching, but it also boasts a dining room with a subtle Caledonian character. At the very heart of the restaurant is food from Scotland’s natural larder. So whether its langoustines from the West Coast; venison from the Highlands or lamb from Perthshire - Arisaig certainly delivers the authentic taste of Scotland. It also has an interesting wine list, a range of local craft ales and, of course, an excellent collection of Scottish malt whisky.

thena offers great traditional Greek food. The restaurant, which was originally situated on Glasgow's Southside, is now in Elderslie Street. It remains family-owned, under the stewardship of original founder Frixos Georgiades' grandson, and continues the tradition of offering great food, friendly staff and a warm welcome. Their team of chefs put together traditional family recipes of delicious rustic food, using freshly sourced local ingredients and Greek and Cypriot produce. House specialties include Kleftico, slow cooked lamb shank and Mezedes. If you are looking for a great Mediterranean dining experience, served with a smile, the Athena is for you.

albirs, is named after the owner, Balbir Sumal, who with wife Paramjit, has created arguably two of the best Indian restaurants in the West of Scotland - Balbirs Route 77 and Balbirs in Church Street. The Church Street restaurant is large, and it has to be, to accommodate its legions of fans. It's contemporary with more than a hint of opulence when it comes to the furnishings. The recipes at Balbirs are based on homestyle traditional cooking, with a contemporary twist. Balbir still oversees the kitchen ensuring that the menu follows his ethos of offering quality and healthy food. The extensive menu offers interesting dishes and a full vegetarian selection too including the acclaimed ‘Bhel Poori’ and ‘Chana Bhatura'. Of course the service is excellent too. 10

he Battlefield Rest celebrates its 21st year this summer as an Italian restaurant. Owner Marco Giannasi restored the building, a former resting place for Tram travellers, in 1994 and opened it as a Continental Italian bistro, and ever since it has been delighting Glaswegians. The cosy and charming Italian restaurant, is award winning, and renowned for the quality of the food as much as it is for the typical Italian service. Friendly, speedy and with a bit of banter thrown in. The menu is extensive and there is also an excellent pre-theatre menu.
The Risotto Zingaro was exquisite and the Seafood Marco Polo just wonderful, lovely flavours which really did excite the tastebuds. Everyone of us enjoyed what we ordered and could not stop saying how good our meal was. TripAdvisor

ella Vita is Mosspark's only Neopolitan Restaurant and it definitely doesn't lack character. The warm homely trattoria's dark red interior is decorated with photographs of people who have enjoyed the hospitality of co-owner Mimmo Rossi and there are just a few framed pictures of football memorabilia! Add to this a large fish tank, and decorative paintings of Venice and you have Bella Vita. Mimmo opened this restaurant with business partner David Cassells just a few years ago, but already it feels like it has been there for ever. Whether you are celebrating a special occasion, enjoying dinner with friends or planning an intimate meal for two – its welcoming friendly staff provide a warm and cosy atmosphere for you to enjoy authentic Italian cuisine. 12

ince Bread Meats Bread opened in 2013 it has been praised by burger lovers everywhere. From the Guardian's Tony Naylor, who called his burger 'a beef bomb', to Scotland's own James Lees (Jamesvburger) who has praised the quality of the burgers. You can expect the best and you wouldn't be disappointed. This restaurant offers affordable, honest food, made from scratch. It prides itself on the use of ethical ingredients, no freezers and no microwaves. Large wooden tables, an open-kitchen and a corner site which allows diners to watch the world go by, all add to the experience. The restaurant, when it opened, aimed to become a Glagow institution – it has done just that.
Calling this stunning effort a burger made me feel like I was doing it a huge disservice. The meat was cooked to perfection, juicy, rich in flavour, and the strips of pork delivered an extra kick. Dinertec, Evening Times

his West End restaurant in Cresswell Lane was the first Café Andaluz to open and since 2003 it has been one of the most popular restaurants in the West End. The basement level restaurant, has an inviting décor featuring bright coloured tiles, dark wood, patterned ceramics and colourful cushions all of which create a genuine Andalucian warmth. With a wide range of tapas on offer there is a dish for everyone's palate whether you prefer fish, meat or vegetarian, spicy or not so spicy. Our favourites include the tasty paella and the sliced Andalucian black pudding with apple chutney. It also serves up a mean pitcher of sangria. The service is slick and efficient and whether you want to linger or want a quick in and out, the staff are always accommodating.

he City Merchant is recognised as one of Glasgow's leading seafood restaurants but it also serves high quality beef and game dishes too – all of its ingredients are sourced locally where possible. It has a rustic feel about it, with lots of wood panelling, and fishing memorabilia, but there is nothing rustic about its service which is spot on. The restaurant has a substantial mezzanine which has a ship like balustrade which overlooks the main restaurant and gives a fine view of giant paintings which show fishing boats, and the beautiful crafted stained glass windows. There's also a private secluded area which ideal for small gatherings or business meetings for up to 16 persons and it has a function room in the basement. 18

he Drake epitomises what a good gastro style bar/restaurant should be. It offers tasty, affordable food in a relaxed neighbourhood environment. With coal fires, colourful rugs and exposed stone walls, for many it is a home from home. It's a vibrant bar with friendly service and a wide range of customers which includes dogs and families too. It offers lots of interesting beers and a good range of wine. It is also a haven for sports fans with some large screens which show all the major sporting events. If you want to enjoy a slightly more formal occasion you can dine in the restaurant upstairs, or perhaps utilise the private dining room.

his small local bistro offers some of the best Scottish seasonal produce there is to have. It enjoys a lot of repeat business due to the fact that the restaurant is welcoming and the food excellent. The friendly staff are always happy to advise when it comes to the dishes on offer which change with the seasons. From Scottish venison to hake with smoked chorizo and lobster bisque, you can tell the chef enjoys cooking with the best seafood, beef, lamb or fowl on offer and he is imaginative too. It is small but this lends itself to evening dining – when candlight creates a lovely ambience. You do need to book though.

I chose a pasta dish for my main... I can honestly say that it was the best pasta dish I have ever tasted and I am very fussy about food and flavour. What was also nice was the way the drinks were served, nice cold glasses and prosecco served the way it should be! TripAdvisor

The menu is regularly adapted to reflect what is seasonally accessible and there is a lovely selection of home baking available as well. It is considered by many the best in Glasgow and with its plush with taupe and pink decor, richly coloured artwork and fresh orchids it has a contemporary feel. But it's the food that people come for – offering a large selection of delicious dishes from more traditional and serious Chinese food, to more contemporary dishes too. From sizzling plates to bird's nests, peking duck to lobster, the chef certainly knows how to satisfy his diners. It's hardly surprising that this restaurant is consistently busy, and certainly the staff are smoothly efficient. A first class Chinese restaurant.

an Brown opened his own restaurant in November 2010, after 21 years at the Ubiquitous Chip in Glasgow's west end. Today, no doubt it's a decision he doesn't regret, with the restaurant full to bursting most weekends and through the week too. That is a testament to Ian's cooking. He has created a charming, airy restaurant furnished simply but effectively with Paul Hodgkiss tables and counters, framed art and some bright lampshades. But the brightest thing in the restaurant is of course the food. Everything is cooked from scratch in its tiny open kitchen, so not only can you see the maestro at work, but he can tell you what is in every dish and as you would expect it comes from the best Scottish suppliers. 30

his narrow restaurant definitely has a Spanish flavour. Its has tiled blue walls, framed pictures of matadors and heavy rustic furniture, as well as an Iberico ham on the counter and a wide selection of Spanish beers and wines. It's not surprising that it has garnered a great reputation with lovers of all things Spanish! However they don't just come for the atmosphere they come for the food too. The tapas menu is extensive with all the usual favourites but cooked by chefs who know a thing or two about Spanish cooking. La Boca is family run and it shows.

Obviously it has the usual popular tapas selection but it also offers 'modern' tapas – from fried chicken wing lollipops to scallops with green lettuce soup, you can certainly be adventurous here. One whisky worth trying is Sheep Dip Islay Blended Malt Whisky which recently scored top points at the Ultimate Spirit Challenge in New York City. The whisky, owned by the Spencerfield Spirit Company, contains eight different Islay single malts between 8 and 12 years old, and won ‘Chairmans Trophy’ award, scoring an outstanding 96 points and receiving the accolade of ‘Extraordinary, Ultimate Recommendation’. Distilled and matured on the southernmost island of the Inner Hebrides, Islay, Sheep Dip Islay Blended Malt Whisky is a fine example of a unique style of whisky. The whisky is produced in small-batch quantities and matured in first fill oak barrels.

BenRiach 10 years old single malt has just been launched. This release is a momentous high point for the award-winning Elgin distillery as the whisky is the first core range expression to be produced predominantly from spirit distilled under The BenRiach Distillery Company’s eleven-year ownership. The whisky, bottled at 43% ABV, has a classic Speyside character. The cask formula focuses on ex-bourbon and ex-sherry casks – exactly the types of wood favoured at BenRiach. It’s a fresh, fruitladen single malt which captures warm oak spices, green apple, dried apricots, peach and banana with subtle touches of aniseed, lemon zest and barley.

laswegians have adopted Viva Brazil since it opened in 2011. This real Brazilian style dining experience allows you to try up to fifteen select cuts of Beef, Lamb, Pork, Chicken and Sausages, all slowly roasted over its charcoal barbeque and carved at your table. They don't stop serving the meats until you ask them to. Just as infamous as its meat is its Salad Island which has more than 20 different salads on offer and 8 traditional hot Brazilian dishes. It's definitely the place to visit if you are hungry. And for those that are thirsty you could try a Caipirinha – the national cocktail of Brazil.
The atmosphere in the restaurant was fantastic. There was a real buzz about the place. The food was excellent... I loved the fact that they brought the meat round the table and carved pieces for you... don't be shy, ask for more if you want it... it is unlimited. TripAdvisor

ee LOCHAN is a restaurant for everyone. On taking over four years ago, Rupert and Aisla changed Wee LOCHAN from a fish restaurant to an eaterie offering a much wider variety of dishes. There are steaks and lamb on the menu. You’ll find chicken and guinea fowl too. There are vegetarian options as well as seabass and hake. We offer coffee and scones in the afternoons and there's a Sunday roast every week. Everyone is welcome. We are all on one level and the disabled toilet is easily accessible for our rolling guests. There’s free parking in the streets round about us and we’re only a seven minute walk from Hyndland train station. Looking forward to seeing you at Wee LOCHAN. 58
