des Blocs
Advanced Design Studio Fall 2018 Monica Juvara and Boris Bezan Natural History Museum Fribourg, Switzerland Alexandra Wilkinson
From the bond between the old and the new emerges a third space where the axis of soft mobility and the public realm of Route de Arsenaux converge. The new building shifts away from its ancestor as it descends to ground level, freeing the void between them. Within this void is the opportunity for occupants to explore the relationship between the old and the new. Reshaping a once exterior condition into an interior experience, the new building frames the existing faรงade for visitors to appreciate. Each reflects its own time, but when combined, they create a new vision of the Museum of Natural History of Fribourg.

Plaza Module
Advanced Design Studio Fall 2018 Monica Juvera and Boris Bezan Urban Furniture Kongresni Trg in Ljubljana
The trapezoidal form produces many variations that can be implemented in unique ways to enhance the experience of a plaza. Its flat body makes transportation and storage easy so that new configurations can be imagined.

Barton Springs Spa
Intermediate Studio Fall 2017 Michael Garrison Public Spa Barton Springs Austin, Texas Natalie Avellar
A natural spring gives life to the Barton Springs Pool. Year round the pool maintains a constant cool temperature making it an especially popular place of respite during the hot and humid summers of Austin. The spa simulates the unique structure of the natural pool: two strips of land divided by the cold blue ribbon. A pool anchors the spa to the land and separates the deck from the saunas. All encompassed by an extreme roof, pointing towards the natural pool, the spa creates a space separate from Barton Springs but still connected with the beauty of the natural pool.

Wave Cinemas
Speculative Studio Spring 2017 John Blood Drive-In Movie Theater Austin, Texas
A magnificent wave crashes against a building producing the drivein / movie theater hybrid. The screen is the hearth of the building, central to all the program and experience of both people viewing from the outside and inside. Drive-in viewers become a part of the rippled landscape led by the curved screen providing an optimal view of the next big cinematic hit. Those watching from the inside enter behind the screen and submerge themselves beneath the wave. The screen becomes a major structural element that supports the building, emphasizing its fundamental character to the theater.

C.A.S. Market
Intermediate Studio Fall 2017 Michael Garrison Farmers Market Guelph, Canada
The Market, an anchor at the center of the city, provides a civic space for local farmers and artisans to demonstrate their practices, as well as a threshold connecting the train station, City Hall, and Speed River. Designed with an understanding of Complex Adaptive Systems theory, the market emerges as an organism in an urban environment. The perimeter of the building succumbs to the order of the city grid while the interior becomes a vibrant spiral, resonating with the chaos of the visitors. The landscape and form of the building influences pedestrians into a communal circulation. Wherever visitors arrive, they are guided into a greater flow of procession. The Market welcomes the chaos of Guelph’s diverse inhabitants and brings them together to celebrate their city and each other.
