A mixed group of ceramic items from the vessel Tek Sing, shipwrecked on 6th February 1822 (found and salvaged 1999): one plain pale blue bowl; one pale blue bowl with dark blue agricultural scene; one small dish with dark blue geometric designs; one shallow dish with figural scene; two shallow dishes with central spiral motif and segmented rotating patterns; one large dish with geometric design to the outer edge; one pale blue covered dish with embossed foliage design and similar vessel within. Some items bearing the Stuttgart auction sticker. The Tek Sing (meaning True Star) was sailing from Amoy to Jakarta in early 1822 with a large cargo, 200 crew and 1,600 chinese passengers when she was shipwrecked on a reef with only about 200 lives saved. This disaster has been called the ‘Titanic of the East’ due to the very high loss of life. The site was discovered in the South China Sea by Mike Hatcher and his team in 1999. The ensuing months saw what has been described as the largest quantity of Chinese porcelain ever recovered, and much was sold in Stuttgart at auction in November 2000.

The Sikhote-Alin meteorite fell during daylight at 10:38 am local time on 12th February, 1947. Witnesses reported a fireball that was brighter than the sun. It came from out of the north, about 15 degrees east of north and descended at an angle of 41 degrees. It left a trail of smoke and dust 20 miles long which lingered for several hours. Light and sound of the fall were observed for two hundred miles around the point of impact.

897 z Roman Legionary Stamped Tile Fragment Circa 1st century AD. A fragment of a terracotta tile stamped with a cartouche bearing the text ‘LEG II ITA’. Ceramic, 1.3 kg, 18 cm. Fine condition. £50 - 80 EUR 60 - 90 USD 80 - 130 UK art market, acquired prior to 1980. LEGIO II Italica was founded in 165 or 166 AD by Emperor Marcus Aurelius. In 171 AD it was stationed in Noricum (present day Austria and Slovenia) under the command of Pertinax, who was emperor briefly in 193 AD. According to tile stamps, a camp was built by II Italica at Lotschitz, near the important transport node at Celeia, before 175 AD. Legio II Italica accompanied Septimius Severus on his march to Rome, where he was recognized as emperor. Later, Emperor Diocletian formed a sub-unit which became an independent legion, named II Italica Divitensium, and which played a part in the march on Rome of Constantine I and the battle of the Milvian bridge (312 AD). Legio II Italica was still operational in the early 5th century AD.

The Auctioneer shall have sole discretion as to the conduct of any sale and his decision shall be final in all matters. The Seller shall be liable for the return of any monies paid over by TimeLine Auctions in the event of a dispute raised by the Buyer being upheld. Acceptance of Selling Terms: By submitting any goods for sale by auction, the Seller is deemed to accept all of the Terms and Conditions of Sale and to warrant that he/she is the legal and beneficial owner of all of the goods. Where so indicated in the Catalogue, VAT may be applied to the Hammer Price for Lots to which the Auctioneer’s Margin Scheme does not apply or where Import VAT applies. Buyers with a Registered Address outside of the United Kingdom or European Union may be exempt from some aspects of VAT, provided that any Lots purchased are shipped directly by TimeLine Auctions Ltd to the Buyer’s registered foreign address. Disputes: In the event of any dispute, the Buyer must notify TimeLine Auctions Ltd immediately, but in no case later than fourteen days after the date of the Sale, in writing and stipulating fully the ground for such dispute. During the progress of any dispute, Timeline Auctions Ltd shall hold any and all monies paid by the Buyer until such time as the matter is finalised. In cases where deliberate forgery is alleged, any such claim shall be subject to review by TimeLine Auctions Ltd who may consult such experts as they deem appropriate. The responsibility for proof of forgery shall rest with the Buyer but disagreement between experts or the inability of an expert to express a definite opinion shall not be sufficient grounds. All disputes shall be resolved in accordance with English law. Acceptance of Buying/Bidding Terms: Any person bidding at any sale is deemed to have read and accepted these Terms in full and undertakes to fully indemnify TimeLine Auctions Ltd against any claims.
