Elm Street DREAM Monthly Snapshot June 2014 Program Happenings and Highlights • •

After a three-day orientation at Camp DREAM, AmeriCorps VISTAs Julia Dillavou, Laura Burnham, and Vanessa Sproates-Horl began summer programming at Elm Street. On June 24th DREAM hired mentor alumnus Kylie Edwards as Elm Street’s Community Program Coordinator. Kylie will be offering enrichment activities to Elm Street youth throughout the summer. On June 17th Elm Street youth attended Camp DREAM’s boys’ session. On June 24th Elm Street youth attended Camp DREAM’s girls’ session. Thanks to DREAM’s partnership with the Community Sailing Center, 5 Elm Street youth went sailing on Lake Champlain.

Weekly Programming with Children • Summer Community VISTAs went door-to-door to meet youth and parents, and to collect • • • • • • • • • • •

summer forms. Youth made candle holders and had a fun dance party. At the end of their first week, VISTAs threw a community kick-off with delicious blue and yellow cupcakes. Throughout June, Kylie and the Summer Community VISTAs walked youth up to O’Brien Center for free lunch. Kylie took a group of teens to ‘'Face Time,’' a no-technology hangout-space led by staff at Centerpoint. Community VISTAs took Elm Street youth on a hike up Mount Philo. Elm Street teens cooked dinner with Kylie at an Elm Street apartment. Elm Street teens attended the first in a series of black-and-white movies and popcorn at the community center. Elm Street youth visited Roosevelt Park to participate in an epic basketball game against youth from DREAM’s Riverside and Salmon Run programs. Youth went swimming at North Beach. Youth visited the Fletcher Free Library, where they watched a World Cup game. For an early 4th of July celebration, Community VISTAs organized a water ballon fight,

decorated cookies with youth, and made red, white and blue spaghetti in the community center. Thank you for your ongoing support of DREAM!
