The Orchard Gardens DREAM Update November 2013 We’ve had a wonderfully crisp November here at DREAM! The mentors and mentees have spent great time together and nurtured bonds that enrich their lives. DREAM Programming:   

11/2 (0 mentees, 0 mentors) Red Sox Parade-Large-group Saturday activities were cancelled due to the victory parade and transportation logistics. 11/9 (15 mentees, 25 mentors) Pie Making. This week the group went back to a mentor’s apartment and baked pies-which were delicious! 11/16 (17 mentees, 25 mentors) Gingerbread Houses. This week the group made gingerbread houses, everyone had fun-even Louis and LaQuan! The kids ate a lot of candy in the process, but luckily no one was sick! This was the first week for Edward and Melanie being a DREAM Saturday-they fit right in the group and we are glad to have them on board! 11/23 (0 mentees, 0 mentors) No activities due to Thanksgiving break. 11/30 (9 mentees, 22 mentors) Bake Sale Fundraiser. This week the group went back to Boston University and held a bake sale fundraiser. Both Edward and LaQuan make excellent salesmen!

Program Development:  Mentor Recruitment. After the most intensive and rigorous recruitment and interview process yet, the group welcomed 15 new mentors into the program. With many mentors graduating this spring these mentors will shadow mentors who are seniors the remainder of this semester to ease the youth's transition to a new mentor when their current mentor graduates. We look forward to getting youth off the waitlist and into programming over the next few weeks. DREAM Office:  Longwood Symphony Orchestra Benefit Concert: DREAM is lucky enough to be a beneficiary of the Longwood Symphony Orchestra this year. The LSO will be hosting a concert on December 7, 2013 to benefit the DREAM program. In addition to buying tickets to attend, there will be opportunities for supporters of DREAM to sponsor mentormentee matches to go to the concert. You can purchase tickets at: https://dreamconcert.eventbrite.com.
