Television Love
NYC Glam, Kardashian Style on KKTNY By Samantha Cheirif Dream Now Magazine
Kourtney and Kim Take New York is a show about glamour, luxury and freedom. The sisters bunk in a gigantic suite in the Smyth Tribeca hotel on Broadway. The stylish hotel has a huge patio overlooking the city. On the show, the Kardashian sisters party at exclusive nightclubs and restaurants, always dressed fashionably and beautifully.
Kardashian Reality Kourtney and Kim Take New York is the newest installment in the series of shows that
feature the Kardashian family. The shows include Keeping Up With The Kardashians and
Kourtney and Khloe Take Miami. Kourtney and Kim discuss wanting a change of pace in this show; Kourtney is interested in moving forward with her family after hitting a very rough patch between herself and boyfriend Scott Dissick in Miami.
Kim is newly single and interested in
finding love in the big apple.
On KKTNY, both siblings find their goals difficult to attain. Scott is fighting in a club by episode two (although in his defense, this time he was coming to Kim’s aid). Kim finds herself all over the Internet after going on a date with an old friend.
Style The Kardashian sisters wear tons of tight black clothing and accessorize well. They love to layer, and are dressed impeccably in their heels (very impractical for walking anywhere in the city) to their coats to their adorable hats. They have normal body sizes and wear clothes that show off their curves. Kim is particularly fond of the sleek, high ponytail, which makes even more casual outfits seem elegant.
Episode One
In the first episode, Kim goes on a date to Serendipity 3, a restaurant made famous by
the movie and their delicious frozen hot chocolate. She meets her date and they are escorted to a back table. In reality, anyone else would have waited about four hours for that table, and would have been smashed up against a dozen other patrons trying to enjoy their desserts. The sisters then visit the site where they plan to open another one of their successful clothing stores, Dash. It is a big, beautiful space right in the middle of Soho. When they enter, the store is bare. They plan to open in two weeks. For any New Yorker with big dreams to open a clothing store, this would be absolutely unfeasible. However, the sisters are lucky to have designers and assistants to work to make this possible.
Real New Yorkers Speak about KKTNY Rachel Rabinowitz of Cornell University (’12) is a long time fan of the Kardashians and their TV ventures. She says, “I think it was very similar to Kourtney and Khloe Take Miami, but that could be because Khloe was already visiting in the second episode. I’m excited to see how the show continues.” When asked as a native New Yorker if she believes this show truly represents New York, she continued, “If you were going to visit New York, most people wouldn’t stay in such a beautiful hotel and go to such exclusive places. Everything they do is 10 times more elaborate than the average person, obviously because they have so much money and are famous. But I think it provides good entertainment, and as long as you accept the fact you’ll never be them it’s fun to watch them interact.” As a new fan of the show, I have to agreenot a very accurate representation of the New York City that I know and love, but definitely a fun and exciting show to watch for those interested in glamour and fashion in the big city.
The Apprentice Franchise: Still Going Strong By Jim Brady
Dream Now Magazine For contestant Mahsa Saeidi-Azcuy, season 10 of The Apprentice offered her a chance to live out her
“American Dream.” Mahsa, a former assistant district attorney, was overwhelmed and shocked when she was selected for the show. Mahsa opened up about the show on her personal website. The show offered her an opportunity to excel and really make it big. One reason the show has aired for so long, is that the show truly defines reality television. The shows’ audience appreciates the honesty, and its ability to give regular citizens a chance to fulfill their dreams. Watching tough business decisions by the show's business star, Donald Trump is an added bonus for viewers. After finishing its 10th season NBC's “The Apprentice” is still one of the most watched and anticipated reality shows on television. The last season ended in December, featured all non-celebrity contestants. The season’s theme focused on giving noncelebrity contestants a second chance in the workforce, especially during the current economic downturn.
The new apprentice
installment; Celebrity
Apprentice 4, will air March 6 at 9 p.m, on NBC.
It's the 11th season of “The
Apprentice” and will feature 16 celebrity candidates. The candidates include actor Garey Busey, LaToya Jackson, rapper Lil Jon and Star Jones, and NeNe Leaks
from The Real Housewives of Atlanta. In
The Celebrity Apprentice 3, the
contestants on the show have already achieved nationwide fame and recognition. The stars work for charity and a gain a little more exposure. On the non-celebrity version of the show. Many contestants believe that by being selected for the show they may have the potential to achieve their ideal job and reach celebrity status. For contestants like Mahsa, the show allowed her to make a difference in the lives of others. During the show Mahsa earned a reputation for being energetic and strong. Many viewers liked Mahsa because she was an eager younger woman with an aggressive manner, while maintaining her beliefs. Unlike
Celebrity Apprentice, prior to the show the non-celebrities are unknown nation-wide. Once the show is aired, contestants are under a microscope and the show often provides them an
opportunity to be distinguished by the public and gain fans. Despite the fact that Mahsa did not win season 10, she was recognized and featured on several other shows and journals.
When asked if she would be watching Celebrity Apprentice, Mahsa responded by
saying that she was “apprenticed out.” Despite the fact that Mahsa won't be watching,
millions of others will tune in to hear Donald Trump say the famous line, “You're fired”.
Game On! The Game wins big with 7.7 Million viewers
by Fabiana Michel The long anticipated wait for the fan favorite TV show, The Game, finally makes it’s way back to television. The Game made a valiant return on BET. It scored 7.7 million
viewers for the hour-long premiere episode. The show, a comedy based on NFL players, their wives, fame and fortune, was previously seen on the CW Network before it's cancellation in 2009. The increase of viewers of Season four, was due to BET’s purchase of the show’s reruns from seasons one through three. This held the shows viewers and acquired new fans. During the end of Season three, viewers were aware of the shows cancellation. Fans created a social media to campaign for the show to stay. Facebook and Twitter were the new avenues to sign petitions and write about their concerns with their show being axed. Some of the petitions drew thousands of signatures to halt the cancellation of the show, but to no avail, it was gone. Season three viewership only gained 1.3 million
viewers. The CW was moving into hour long dramas and The Game was not a fit for the new lineup. The Game may score another season if its viewership remains strong.
FEATURES Black Hollywood: the glamorous face of change By Jessica Torres Dream Now Magazine African Americans are taking their place among American’s wealthiest citizens in Los Angeles and glamourous cities across the globe. The exclusive neighborhoods and posh shopping from hard earned cash, is a long way from discrimination and degrading roles given to African-Americans in the early 1900's. Many LA neighborhoods were off limits, and acting roles were scarse or degrading. Today's African-American celebrity figures are multi-talented, independant and they have extended their negotiations beyond imaginable works. Here's a few of the many African American celebrities who are dominating Hollywood. What do you do when you're Oprah, and enjoy a sandwich at a café? You place an immediate
offering to BUY the cafe. This happened at Art Cafe and Bakery in San Luis Obispo, California. "It turns out this was the most expensive sandwich I've ever had." said Winfrey publicly. She
is the No. 2 wealthiest African-American person in the world with a net worth of $2.7 billion
dollars. Winfrey invested $40 million in establishing the Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy
for Girls near Johannesburg, South Africa in January 2007. Rumor states Winfrey fell so in
love with her current home estate in Montecito, California that she was reportedly purchased
it by writing a personal check for $50,000,000. The estate was not for sale. It seems Oprah has a tendency to whip out her checkbook when she knows what she wants. Tiger Woods billion-dollar earnings beat out sports stars Michael Jordan and Michael Schumache. Woods remains the highest-paid athlete in the world with deal endorsements with Nike, Electronic Arts and Upper Deck. Tiger Woods recently took out a $54.5 million mortgage for the mega-mansion he's building on Florida's exclusive Jupiter Island. Los Angeles Lakers All-Star guard Kobe Bryant is a great example of giving back to the community. Kobe Bryant currently has a net worth of 140 million dollars. His latest purchase - a fifty percent share of Italian Pro Basketball team his dad once played for. He has chipped in more than $1 million of the $4 million paid for the halfinterest in Olimpia Milano of the Italian league, making this young and wealthy basketball player an international basketball entrepreneur as well. What is the price of love? For pop-star Beyonce Knowles and hip-hop mogul hubby Jay-Z, love don’t cost a thing. Jay-Z spent $20 million for a prime piece of private property in the Florida Keys for wifey Beyoncé’s 29th birthday. For his birthday, a $2 million Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport Edition from his wife. Beyoncé's net worth is estimated at $300 million. Beyoncé signed endorsement deals with Pepsi, L’Oreal, American Express, Samsung, Ford and DirectTV. Beyonce also owns Dereon a fashion line launched with her mom Tina.
The power couple continues to earn and spend as the papparazzi snaps photos and gossip columns speculate. As equality continues, expect more big purchases and lavish spending from superstars of color.
