Although it might be hard to believe that your child will have homework over the holiday break, some good can come from it. It can help keep their students’ academic skills sharp. Not only that, but it can also ensure that your children’s academic skills stay precise throughout the break, so they’re ready to head into the new year.

The holidays are usually a time to spend time with family and friends. However, it can be hard to maintain a full schedule with homework demands. You want to spend time with your family, but your kids have to complete a certain amount of work and reading. Here are some things you can keep in mind when helping your children deal with homework over the holidays.
Schedule in small chunks
During the holiday break, it’s important that your children have a schedule that’s consistent with their academic goals. This can help them transition back to school and keep their academic skills sharp. You can also set aside time for both of you when it comes to working on your homework.
Even though their homework due date is not immediately approaching, doing a little bit of work every day can help keep them up-to-date with their subjects. Encourage your child to break down their projects into small tasks so that they can avoid getting carried away by the large undertakings.
Learn through Experiences
Some kids will bene t from the holiday break because they have the opportunity to process their homework. It can also help them develop their academic skills and keep them up-to-date with their subjects. Moreover, it can provide them with an opportunity to get creative. Out-of-the-box fun opportunities can help kids process their homework as well. Some of your child’s history homework might be supported with a trip to the museum. A visit to the zoo or cooking can also be a good science supplement. Giving your child context for their lessons can help them comprehend better!

Look
for extra credit opportunities
During the holiday break, it’s also a good time to boost grades by making up assignments, completing extra credit, or doing something related to the family if possible.
Holidays provide a great opportunity for you and your child to work together and hold them accountable if they’re falling behind. However, allow them to have plenty of time to relax and have fun!
Take advantage of any downtime you may have
Having homework can provide you with some peace and quiet to get your holiday cooking and chores done. It can also help keep you from getting the unpleasant phrase, “I’m bored.” Apart from that, having homework can cut down on phone and TV time, as it allows your child to complete their work in the car or on the plane. You can help and decrease their amount of screen time. It’s a win-win!
Helping your child with their homework and supporting their education outside school can be a good chance to bond with them. It’s also a great opportunity to get some rest, allowing them to have fun and not worry about school. Make sure there is plenty of time for everyone, as the break is called a break.
