Who Jesus Is Lesson 5
Here's where things get interesting. Did you ever realize that the “world” and the kingdom of God came into being in the exact same way? It may be worded a little differently in the Bible, but they both came into existence in the same way. Let's take a look, shall we? Keep in mind that the “world” was established on earth, while the “kingdom of God” was established in the world! “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” Gen. 1:1 “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made.” John 1:1-3 They both say what? That in the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. John 1:1-3 simply expands it a little to include that they were created through Jesus, who was with God and who was God. “Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters.” Gen. 1:2 It was on this formless, empty, dark planet that God placed his world when he created Adam. Adam fell, and along with him so did the rest of mankind. But watch this... “In him was life, and that life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, but the darkness has not understood it.” John 1:4,5 What does it say? That the “world” was full of darkness. The
world of Adam. Dark, empty and formless, even though it was crawling with mankind. “And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light.” Gen. 1:3 God provided light to the dark planet. Then, 4000 years later, He provided light to the dark world. Once again, God said, “Let there be light” and “unto us a child is born..” (Isaiah 9:6). A child in whom was life...and that life was the light of men. A child whose light shines in the darkness, but the darkness has not understood it. “The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us.” John 1:14 It's interesting that: “...the Lord God formed the man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being.” Gen. 2:7 Just as centuries later, He would breathe the breath of life into the nostrils of the lifeless body of the crucified Jesus... It's interesting that God decided it would be good for Adam to have a helper (Gen. 2:18), so He took a rib from Adam's side, and from it, created Eve (Gen.2:21,22). “The man said, “This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called ‘woman,’for she was taken out of man.” For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and they will become one flesh.” (Gen. 2:23,24) It's also interesting that Jesus, like Adam, sacrificed his flesh in
order to give his own bride the gift of life: “Let us rejoice and be glad and give him glory! For the wedding of the Lamb has come, and his bride has made herself ready.” Rev. 19:17 It's interesting that God told Adam and Eve to “Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air and over every living creature that moves on the ground.” Gen. 1:28 And it's interesting that the disciples of Jesus were told “...you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” (Acts 1:8) Why? So that the Christian faith could be fruitful and increase in number! It's interesting, too that “God placed all things under his (Jesus) feet and appointed him to be head over everything...” Eph. 1:22 Last, but not least, isn't it interesting that Jesus was referred to as “the last Adam”? “So it is written: “The first man Adam became a living being”; the last Adam, a life-giving spirit.” 1 Cor. 15:45 There are only two Adams. There are only two worlds. Each of us is a descendant of one Adam or the other...either of the first, or the last. We each are citizens of only one world, though we may visit the other from time to time. We are citizens of either the world of the first Adam...or we are citizens of the world of the last Adam. We belong to the world, or to the kingdom of God....
