eaceloveanarchy zine is an eclectic view of the everyday. This is an existance.. nothing more than ordinary, but the way you see your world makes it either remarkable or mundane. I’ve had a bunch of photos and ideas floating around for a few years now and thought i’d throw them together? There is no real structure to this nor professionalism, it is, in a world gone mad, an effort to look beyond the negativity and focus on something that doesn’t matter..something that offers freedom...provokes thought and encourages spirit. Let the light in.... All pics/photos and words - Drew.

T
he retro revolution is in full swing.. surfboard shapes from the 60’s, 70’s, even 80’s have a new appreciation and a revival of soul surfing is at large. A fresh breath of air from the modern shortboard (revolution), which over the past two decades has focused soley on refining high performance craft, for high performance waves. During this time surfing itself has evolved into a global business with a mainstream appeal. Surfboards are now being shaped by machines and manufacturing moved to China and Thailand, this is no recent venture but one that has met much opposition and critisicm from industry traditionalists, only now is a new movement apparent.. The new vibe on surfing has brought it back to grass roots , handshaping has a renewed appreciation, quality homegrown and handmade products have demand and the DIY culture from the Morning of the Earth era has been reborn and contrasts the marketed, glossy, capitalism seen in franchise surf shops today. Magazines, with a focus on photography, travel and articles rather than advertisements have aligned with the movement along with a few core companies who modestly support a handful of guys and gals to keep things alive... these same surfers designing and shaping their own craft, experimenting with traditional outlines, rockers and foils but with a modern knowledge allowing a hybrid of style and performance. This organic process brings folk together, sharing ideas, borrowing equipment, collaborating skills and beers n blues in the back shed continue into the night. A strong supportive scene is what we’ve got, with surfers, designers, photographers, musicians all feeding off one another to keep it pure on an independant level. Youthful energy and old fashioned values.. it seems the whole act has its love back. And it’s just that. Surfing is a love, a passion, that really doesn’t have to be rewarded with money. The reward is to emerse oneself in mother nature, learning respect, living healthy, gaining a knowledge of weather patterns, travelling to beautiful places and meeting beautiful people on a journey that evolves constantly...it is a lifestyle. This post-modern movement albeit revival, is true to the cycle of trends- everything old is made new again. Albe Falzon, creator, director, and cinematographer of The Morning Of The Earth has been working on a new project/film alongside surfer, shaper, musician, filmmaker, Andrew Kidman. “Spirit of Akasha” is a celebration, 40 yrs on from MOTE. It once again looks at surfing true to its purity, as a soulful freedom some are lucky to enjoy and a counter-culture enduring mainstream hype. The surfers and folk involved being at the forefront of the modern uprising, or like Kidman and a few others that have kept this tradition glowing for decades hidden in the hills away from the corporate mutation. The film also has an original soundtrack, featuring musicians with strong ties to the surfing community.
Surfers originated a pretty shabby bunch, making their own boards, wearing Op shop or homemade clothes, lucky to even have a job. Not the biggest consumer groups around, only needing a few core products to do the act, money was saved for a couple of schooners, or a tank of fuel to get up the coast rather than a new t-shirt. At present the two biggest surf brands in the world are actually on the brink of bankruptcy and it goes to show that capitalism and stock echange bullshit really dont go together with riding waves? To walk down a beach on a clear crisp morning and slide into a perfect cylinder of water is the buzz, it is a drug and it is addictive, it keeps you coming back. The beauty of mother nature and freedom of expression offers one enlightenment that cant be taught. The soul surfing culture is back and it lives thru a new generation of respect and simplicity. It has reignited fun, experimentation, hand building craft and a stripped down, open minded approach to surfing. It’s good to see.

Gooch Palms
a shitty music review -
Best of 2013
Gooch Palms - Novo”s
Arctic Monkeys - am
Brian Jonestown Massacre - Fist full of bees Ep
The Novocastrian two piece released their debut LP Novo’s. It’s a fast , grimey rockabilly/garage affair paying homage to their beloved home town, tongue firmy in cheek! Leroy can certainly howl an anthem and lay down a love song or two, Kat also has lungs, she keeps beat and her pants on..together they conquer all. A duo of Lux and Poison Ivy proportions.
Am is dark, sexy and moody. It has an atmosphere you get lost in. Alex Turner could not get smoother, almost sinister with his delivery and oozes sex all the way. In short, this is brilliance by a very classy act.
To celebrate Record store Day earlier last year Anton and the BJM released a limited edition (2000) purple 12” pressing of 3 unreleased tracks. Like the last two releases, a distinct electronic feel but still retaining that BJM character. This is a smooth, chill record that grooves a positive vibe.
Foals- Holy Fire
Arcade Fire - Reflektor
Kurt Vile - Wakin on a pretty daze
Holy Fire has hit the mark in terms of thoughtful, artistic music, that’s catchy and dancable too. A not so easy, but very good mark to hit. Foals have evovlved, and grown better with time. A fine release.
Arcade Fire can’t release something not epic...Arcade Fire can’t release a bad record. Lush, strong and catchy. Not as epic as previous releases but nontheless this double record has a sense of granduer and obscurity only Arcade Fire can produce. One of the most vital bands on the planet today.
Kurt Vile has released a dazy, chilled indie album with nods to old folk and a little psychadelia. Sometimes quite Dylan-esque, Viles songwriting tells a story and leads a journey. The album opens with a 9:13 epic slacker tune titled “wakin on a pretty day”, for me this was definately track of the year, well crafted melodies, slick guitar work and a dreamy groove, its worth every minute.

Direct form the Mid North Coast’s hippest town, Jamie aka ‘snoozie’ says what’s up for 2014. A definitive trendsetters guide to making an uber cool impression this year. Style your shit out hard with these cutting edge tips that will blow away even the most en vouge of crowds.
Quit Facebook- Everyone knows facebook is really lame. It is quite 1. obvious that people who spend fuckloads of time on there actually don’t have the sensational lives we are all lead to believe....and really, who wants to hear some douche you dont really know complain about the weather, again..or comment on what was on tv last night!? Get a life, get off Facebook. Wear Crocs- Especially pink ones! It’s simple...Crocs are that uncool 2. they are cool, yeh. 3. Buy Vinyl Records- They are marginally more expensive than downloading digital music and they sound better. Records are soo in right now with indie fucks but regardless it is a cool train to jump on. They also look pretty cool on a shelf. 4. Drink Cider- Or craft beer....everyone is a fuckin beer or cider connoisseur these days, so keep up! Drink hard to find, expensive labels and start conversations about how commercial beer and cider is rubbish, has had its day and is full of chemicals. 5. Use Cocain- Celebrities, models, rock stars, all the coolest people on the planet love cocain. Get stylin’ with that coke ‘sparkle’ in your eye, the must have accessory for all occasions. Light a ciggarette with a match after you sniff a rail, and babe...you’ve made it.
