ACCELERATED DEGREES BA/BS/JD (pre-law) and BA/BS/MD (pre-med) Accepted as Freshman only The BA/BS/MD accelerated degree program enables academically qualified students to earn both a bachelor’s and doctor of medicine or doctor of law degree concurrently — entering medical school or law school one year sooner than in traditional bachelor’s and MD programs.

BA/MS or BS/MS Prospective students may apply for provisional admission into the BA/ MS or BS/MS programs, or they may apply after enrollment. A final decision is made after 90 credits (includes GPA requirement). Combined degrees are offered in Communication, Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics and Psychology.

DUAL DEGREES With careful planning, students can complete two full degrees in the time usually required to complete one. Students can enroll in two majors in the College of Arts and Sciences or choose one major in another college in the university. The double major option works best in closely related areas.

YOUR LIFE BEGINS HERE. Imagine yourself, not too many years from today, degree in one hand and a confident handshake forming in the other. You greet your prospective employer or grad school advisor, and the interview begins. At that moment, everything you learned in college is put to the test. So how do you rise above all the other recent graduates all competing for the same slots? How do you stand out among your peers? With an education that combines experience with knowledge. An education that extends far beyond the classroom, and teaches you to think outside boxes and books. An education that teaches you to discover unexpected solutions to real-world problems. In other words, with an education from Drexel University’s College of Arts and Sciences. The College of Arts and Sciences is a place where varying perspectives meet. With a wide range of degree programs taught by hands-on professors who will challenge you, befriend you, mentor you and motivate you to think independently and reach farther. The College of Arts and Sciences also offers something you won’t find at most other universities: A Co-op, targeted to your interests and studies, where you’ll begin building your résumé with intensive, full-time work experience. Imagine yourself, not too many months from today, discovering a college where teaching and learning meet life and experience. Imagine yourself…here.

resources. On the other hand, small colleges offer significant benefits too, like class sizes that foster greater student-teacher interaction. Studying at the College of Arts and Sciences at Drexel offers the best of each. You’ll live and study in the intimate atmosphere of a small college, while having all the resources of a world-class research institution at your disposal. We believe that a close relationship between faculty and students is vital to your success—and to the success of the entire College community. Small classes encourage active discussion, participation and interaction. You’ll have the opportunity to gain valuable hands-on experience, working alongside faculty, beginning in your freshman year. What’s more, our close-knit environment helps you build relationships that will carry over into your life after Drexel. Along your educational journey, you’ll also receive professional guidance and career planning from a team of academic advisors who are there for you every step of the way.

LIVING AT DREXEL You know what they say about all work and no play. So do we. Student activities give you a chance to have some fun, meet new people and stay active. You can choose from hundreds of cultural and professional organizations, student clubs, societies, performing arts groups, sports teams and more. Classes, projects and exams give you plenty to keep your mind in top shape. So to help keep your body agile, the John A. Daskalakis Athletic Center houses a fully-equipped wellness center, swimming and diving pools, and basketball and squash courts. If team sports interest you, try out for any of Drexel’s varsity, intramural, or club sports teams. You won’t go hungry at Drexel, either. You’ll find a number of dining options available throughout campus, including Ross Commons, Creese Café, Handschumacher Dining Center, and the Northside Dining Terrace, which features Subway, Currito, Chick-fil-A and more.

Drexel faculty are widely accomplished in their areas of expertise and bring real-world experience to the classroom. So you get an education built on the highest levels of academic achievement and professional success. You’ll learn from professors who encourage open discussion. They’ll motivate you to think critically, to push your limits, to merge disciplines and come up with a range of answers to the most challenging problems. You’ll also draw from their experience in a variety of outside interests and personal pursuits. This intersection of viewpoints and backgrounds is the heart and soul of your College of Arts and Sciences education. And it’s where you’ll find some of your most valuable learning experiences. If your major carries a strong research component, you’ll have the opportunity to work side-by-side with your professors on a number of exciting projects. Even humanities and social science majors can participate in research at Drexel—an opportunity not offered by many other universities.

As a Drexel College of Arts and Sciences student, you’ll balance classroom theory with practical, hands-on experience. It’s called Cooperative Education, or Co-op, and it gives you the opportunity to work in your chosen field while you’re a student. And it’s the cornerstone of your College of Arts and Sciences experience. Under the Drexel Co-op plan, you’ll attend classes fulltime for your entire freshman year. Then, depending on your academic program, you’ll alternate classes with full-time employment at University-approved employers. Each co-op generally lasts six months, alternating with six months of classroom study. You’ll gain workplace experience, begin building a network, and get a head start on the kind of résumé that rises to the top. Not to mention higher starting salaries. And it’s all part of a real-world education that takes you farther than you’d ever get in the classroom alone.

ences required for graduation is determined by your course of study. For a list of options available for your chosen major visit www.drexel.edu/undergrad/coop/coop-options.

THREE CO-OP OPTION: FIVE YEARS This option includes three six-month periods of full-time employment. At the start of your sophomore year, you’ll alternate between study and work year round, including summers. It’s important to note that while this option requires five years to complete, tuition is the same as a four-year course of study.

ONE CO-OP OPTION: FOUR YEARS This option includes one six-month period of full-time employment during your junior year. You’ll still study or work year round, including summers, beginning in your sophomore year.

NO CO-OP OPTION: FOUR YEARS Some programs can be completed in four years without Coop employment. In this case, you won’t have to work or study during summer terms.

CO-OP EMPLOYERS Co-op students have held positions at many of the world’s top companies, including:

Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia Comcast Corporation Drexel University E.I. du Pont de Nemours GlaxoSmithKline Johnson & Johnson Lockheed Martin Microsoft Corporation PECO Energy Philadelphia Magazine …and many more.

amazing places to work, play, eat, live and experience the arts. Philadelphia is home to hundreds of neighborhoods, each with its own distinct personality and attractions. Head over to Fairmount Park, the country’s largest urban park system, where you can walk, run, bike or just relax in the sun. Hang out at Penn’s Landing on the Delaware River during the day, then explore the shops and restaurants of South Street at night. Discover a world of ethnic foods, fresh produce, meats and cheeses, seafood and more at Philly’s Reading Terminal and Italian Markets. Or engage in deep philosophical debate over who makes the best cheesesteaks, Pat’s or Geno’s ? (Hint: They both rock.) Philly is also a big time sports town. In fact, rooting for the Eagles, Phillies, Flyers and Sixers — all world champions over the years — is practically a sport in and of itself. As a cultural destination, Philadelphia is second to none. From Independence Hall to the Liberty Bell, Philadelphia’s landscape is overflowing with rich history. Not to mention

it is home to plenty of theater, music and art venues—most notably the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts, the Franklin Institute and the Philadelphia Museum of Art. The Greater Philadelphia area has a business community virtually unmatched in scope, scale, and specialty. During your Co-op and following graduation, you’ll find endless job and career opportunities at some of the nation’s top firms and growing businesses. Philadelphia is home to many biotechnology and pharmaceutical firms, hospitals and healthcare centers, publishing houses, Fortune 500 companies, and individually owned start-ups. With so much to do, you’ll need a convenient way to get around. The city’s public transportation system, SEPTA, offers a network of trains and buses that run all over town and into the suburbs. Or hop aboard an Amtrak train at Philadelphia’s famed 30th Street Station for a short trip to New York, Baltimore, Washington, D.C. and beyond.

STUDY AND CO-OP ABROAD Studying outside the U.S. is one of the best ways to broaden your perspective of the world. You’ll gain lifechanging exposure to other cultures, nationalities and ways of thinking. It’s also one of the most exciting opportunities available at Drexel. Working in another country, via Co-op Abroad, gives you a different professional perspective with opportunities for you to live and work in a foreign country. Co-op Abroad students have worked on nearly every continent, and graduate with: • Meaningful experience in international commerce and industry • Improved foreign language skills • Greater understanding of foreign cultures

Drexel may require you to have at least a basic ability to communicate in the local language. You’ll need one year of university-level study in your host country’s language to study abroad, and two years of language study to work there. Some Co-ops are offered in English-speaking countries as well.
