She realized that lots of cutting-edge medical technologies weren’t making it out of academic institutions due to a fundamental lack of entrepreneurship education for scientists, especially due to difficult commercialization landscapes. To address this problem, she founded the first non-profit medical program for Stanford scientists, StartX Med. She was selected as the 2013Forbes 30 under 30 winner in Science & Healthcare.

Peer pressure? Should we only call it the pressure from our friends or if rightly put it should be our urge to be cool and identified as one amongst them. A common motive of trying or doing anything for the first time, despite of knowing that there are harms attached to it is peer pressure. Peer pressure often happens when someone doesn’t want to be alone or left out, so to be a part and to be included they go with the flow and start speaking the group’s language in order to just fit in. It’s not compulsory that peer pressure is negative it might have a positive and a motivational influence, but its better to realize to realize that it has more negative influence as under any pressure one looses their real self. Peer pressure can make you do something that doesn’t fit with your sense of right and wrong. Peer pressure is that powerful that it can lead one to change

their fashion choices, can force someone to consume drugs and alcohol, can form ones decision of having a boyfriend or a girlfriend, can affect ones academic performance and many more that depends on person to person. Peer pressure can be avoided if one tries to believe in their gut feeling and knows how to stop themselves from getting carried away by others. Try being with people of common interests. One should know how to say NO, it gains you respect rather than shame. Always remember higher the self esteem greater your controlling power. If your morals are being tested by the people around you, it’s time to change whom you hangout with. Don’t change so people will like you, be yourself and the right people will love the real you. Love or May be Not !
In the ever changing paradigm of love and relationship, it comes as no surprise that relationships are losing its value now days! It is more evident in the younger generation, as the notion of having a boyfriend or girlfriend is more of a trend and cool thing! Replacing the earlier notion of love and its innocence. What caused this sudden shift? Our recent generation is faced with immense peer pressure to fit in the so called “group”, a stereotypical belief that having a boyfriend or girlfriend is fashionable and your immediately elevated in the prism of society. Emotion, trust, love is taking a back seat. Nevertheless, even though we call it “relationship”, we don’t really live in it. We prefer the comfortable little nest we have made for ourselves, in which we look for warmth and reassurance, and this is what we are really identifying with. But once we understand that having a partner is “cool”, we develop an interest in knowing what it take to have one (it’s more of a superficial object, that one desires that an actual feeling). Yet, as we still tend to project our selfish interests over everything, we see only selfish interests in a relationship, and we struggle to change at that level. Only looks are been taken into consideration when picking a

The formative time of the childhood for today’s generation is somewhat different and highly affected by status and brand conscious western and democratic society. While kids are taught to be a good human being and become competitive in their skills, they decide to own expensive brands and be competitive in possessing luxury such as expensive gadgets and expensive cars. Earlier, in yesteryears, family used to be completely in charge of their children and then children were less demanding and more happy, unlike how today’s young generations which are highly affected by other kid’s possession because they are conscious of their image they are unhappy and always demanding. Most of the whining adolescents are usually seen owning a iPhone and a sedan car, every alternate kid we see around, may own at least a phone just to move with the crowd. It is not wrong to be technologically upgraded, but having higher expectations is an unusual attitude of youth today. They are not only highly status conscious, they develop anxiety, depression and that leads to major mental instability that disturbs their concentration in developing their skills. The attitude of busy and working parents have also made this possible. The ignorance of parents and their disposable incomes have also made it easier for the kids today to become demanding . They see expensive cars, phone, PlayStations, laptops, they would want them. Kids are not ignored on any of their demands today. Parents with disposable income may not think twice and go on buy them and kids think, Oh! That was a less struggle. The attitude towards struggle in earning money and value of money loses when these young kids get it so easy. By: Tanu Sharma

Another fact which is changing the balance of relationship is “sex”. 21 and still a virgin! Is a big question mark on ones credibility? It’s absurd how the young generation thinks that having sex by 21 will make u a “macho man” or a “cool chick”. This whole belief is repulsive and it’s due to this belief that young people are having sex with the wrong person making them regret later. FIT IN WHERE YOU ARE BORN TO STAND OUT; PEER PRESSURE?
Let it not bother you !
Striving for excellence and battling with tough competition is not only fostering a lot of peer pressure on the youth but is also burdening them under societies synical jibes. The intervention of peer and family in our lives; is like a soaring horse race to outshine in everything. While some of the advices give us a push, the other compel us to ponder over our potential. What matters is how these social interact i ons influence our choices, likes and dislikes. E d u c at i o n cannot be judged by flipping pages of a book but what we turn out to be as a person on a whole. The simple motto should be “ When the arrow is pulled back hard and extreme, it launches itself in a strong manner “ The plan should be concrete, as to what we desire to become. Once in a lifetime, we all have to hear this from our parents “ What if you don’t score well “ “ We want you to score more than 80% in your exam”! The one thing that dreads life out of every person
since birth till the end of time is “Results” and what comes as an uninvited bonus with this is some really serious Peer Pressure. This all mushrooming because our parents and friends have a typicall mind block which has made them to believe that attaining hard skills are way more important than brushing the already exisiting soft skills. Its not always about tackling high level thinking skills rather the focus should be on mastering the concepts. P e e r pressure is something that stays in our life throughout. Pressure of peers succeeds in two ways that is one when students achieve something and secondly when they are captured by a mental strife of imbibing wrong values. To avoid being affected by such pressure it is important to inculcate certain rules like a strong belief structure, luminous entity of rules and regulations and the most crucial of all is the need for concrete communication and discussion. YOUTH’S VOICE
VOICE YOUR OPINION WE SPEAK OUT ABOUT MARIJUANA, PROSTITUTION, SECTION 377 AND LIVE
Marijuana plays well
it’s a nature plant, let it be my nature’s choice
Cannabis, weed or marijuana are those words, when you hear from someone it builds up a judgement for the other in your mind “do they smoke up?” , this is no surprise because the stereotypical notion says, the young gen, must avoid even to participate because of the disturbing social stigma that associates with these terms. While in general, Cannabis is a plant, which has medicinal properties that could cure cancer, top oncologists in Bengaluru say. It is said that these leaves were infused with oddly powers that could leave you light-hearted, absent-minded which was never discovered unless, Under influence of marijuana people say, it usually weakens you mentally, true, and it surely captivates but not as much as other hard drugs available. People are found smoking up and the maximum consumptions are done by the young people who ’d prefer feeling light-hearted, joyful unlike alcohol that makes them ferocious. It has gained social acceptance over time and ever since it has been banned more prevalent has been its consumption. Young people are attracted towards consumption of marijuana, and that too increasingly, the inquisitiveness. Youthful, influential celebrity singer Miley Cyrus, the young love for teenagers was seen smoking pot at her music concert, and she indirectly promotes it. Addiction to marijuana as suggested happens only when if you start using it at an early age, or if you consume it over longer period, which is quite obvious people just like people who like eating sweet products, and devour it for long it is obvious in some cases they are likely to acquire diabetes and that harms their health in return. In the same way if there are people addicted to illegal marijuana, there are people who are addicted to legal Alcohol or Tobacco too. While we discuss, about banned marijuana, there are legal products damaging you even more such as alcohol and tobacco, causing you liver, and lung cancers respectively and that is again left to Individual’s choice. While cigarettes contain nicotine with more chemical and cancerous elements, marijuana which is a plant based smoke and is less cancerous. So let that be someone’s choice and decide for themselves, how they want to live it. Banning marijuana, has not affected its production and consumption, and it only increased criminal activities. It has been socially and culturally accepted all over amongst young to olds. Keeping it banned may not affect youth, but if it is regulated, and its purpose of regulation is kept for medicines, one it will boost economy since it will be taxed, second, its consumption by young people between 15-19 years can be minimised, and third, farmers in north- eastern regions may not have to illegally sell to wrong hands for wrong purpose and earn money that way. - Tanu Sharma
The Dark Secret
I want to be recognised
By Fraud, choice or fate this is no less than a cremation ground where the living dead bodies dance to the tunes of lust. Peeping through the windows of more than 100 years old crypts like brothels, finding customers in every man passing by. These unidentified women living in black broken tunnels and chambers just to fulfil the basic need of bread and shelter sell their body’s everyday to different men to earn their living. Because of the dehuman-
ized status of women and prostituted women in particular, women are merely considered as sex commodities. Our society looks at these women as the dark and the untouchable class. No matter how deep and how many scars are there on their body they can still be counted. But how can one count the wounds engraved in their hearts. Played and molested like an unclaimed toy these women have wounds in their souls. There is no place for
We asked a couple of people, their views on our topices and their answers were rather very contradictory and interesting. Do u want to stay in a society, where no women should be judged by their profession; should prostitution be legalized? Is finding ones partner in the same sex a crime? Should a couple be judged if they are in a Live-in relationship, rather then getting married? Will regulating and legalizing marijuana like other hard drugs such as alcohol and tobacco, promote drug addiction amongst youth?
A NEW VOGUE OF SEEKING FREEDOM LIVE IN RELATIONSHIPS To great disgruntlement of India’s regressive population; livein relationships have reasonably managed to escalate over the years outreaching to the literate young adults. Live in relationship in its true essence is engaging into a lengthened or a permanent bond with your partner satisfying the physical, mental and emotional needs of each other without tying the official knot. Cohabitation is commonly seen in the cultures across the western world; but its acceptance in India is yet very partial because of the social stigma attached to it. Here love is not merely give and take; hence its nothing but inviting unwanted attention of your surroundings. To the orthodox ambience; a man and women in love staying together under a single roof without being married is a sin! However it’s no longer true in metropolitan cities like Mumbai, Delhi and Bangalore because people are educated and have become open about it.
A palpable change from “arranged marriages” to “ love” and from love to “live –in’s” is evident. Live- in relations are being prioritized over a wedlock mainly because it helps the two fulfill the demands of each other, breaking free from all constraints, live and love freely without meeting any social obligation and to appraise their compatibility in a much more real and practical way. To put it the other way, we can comprehend that; live in is a midpoint from being least restrictive( i.e when you are in a relationship) to the most complex (marriage). A couple can testify and modify the bull that hits the relationship and defeats it during the very phase of their closeness while living in. Concluding; Live-in relationship’s have likely grown in number with changing ideolo-
PREJUDICE LOVE
NEVER STOP LOVING; IRRESPECTIVE OF YOUR PARTNER’S SEX
Rayn Lewis’s latest song Same love; pays its tribute to homosexuality, and mocks the society which labels it as a diseases and says can be fixed desire, and dreams, are restricted they are given no rights to realize, no recognition in the society, no health care facilities. As human beings don’t they have the right to choose their own profession; so what if they choose to earn by this way. All they have are rights just to be buried in the ground, quietly.

by religion. It is also becoming the unofficial nation anthem for all bisexual, gay and queer people. Being Bisexual, Gay or queer is equivalent to someone being punched in their gut and left into some dark and cold place. The first thing that surfaces is, why aren’t they good enough; why aren’t they worthy enough? A self doubt that is faced, creeping through every bone; why do they not deserve love, affection, beauty and grace? Is this the consequence of feeling rejected, the constant denial by the society for not being what they are expected to be? The more you think about it the more you realize that the truth is far more stretched than what it is. What is worse is that for people who don’t understand are not willing to learn the truth about it either. When a person judge’s without even knowing them. It is not a disorder, it is a choice, and love can never be subjective to rules and authority.
Yes prostitution should be legalized. For one, if it is legalized human trafficking would go down or even stop once and for all. Absolutely not! We are so much more than the sum up of out body parts. So if one can find a soul that completes them in the same gender how is it a crime? No I don’t think they should he judged if they are in a live in relationship instead of being married. Ultimately marriage is just a piece of paper, it’s how you are with each other that matters.
Nicole Urvi, age: 19 College Student gy of people but there are still a sizable chunk who question morality and ethical values; yet we must not forget; staying in with someone is human rightist and individualistic approach and no judgements are welcomed.
I’m pro legalisation of prostitution cuz there’s a lot of fuss about sex in India. If we legalise it then the women who seriously want to take up the profession Dont have to be ashamed of it and less and less women and children would be forced for it Also i feel that it would lessen the rape count in the country since it’s not such a formidable thing. I’m talking about sex. There is no scope of helping the women who are forced into it so if it is, then there would be a process to it and this way females wouldn’t be forced.
By: Dristhy Singh
Should we as a nation be proud of ourselves denying them their rights? Why is it that whenever this question is put forward, people say that it is against our culture? Is denying the rights to an individual not against our culture to impose rules which don’t allow a person to love not against our culture? Do we not know nothing about free choices? Are we God to decide who one should love or not? As “they” say so; Section 377, has given birth too many criminals in our Country. Not because they have done something hedonist but because they are in love with someone of the same sex. Where is the rationality in this? When did love become a crime? It’s funny how the Government and Community lets a rapist and a murderer walk free while homosexual individuals are left to feel insulted and guilty for being honest about their life choices. Is this the culture we are growing up in; a culture where choosing one’s life partner are meet with the scrutiny of a homophobic society. What makes life meaningful is love. The right that makes us human is the right to love. To criminalize the expression of that right is profoundly cruel and inhumane.
I don’t think it would. For one marijuana doesn’t make a person drive drunk, in fact it doesn’t have any adverse effects like cigarettes and alcohol. So yeah I’m all for legalizing Mary Jane. But test a list should be specified. Just like they do both breath analyzers when people are caught drinking and driving.
Tanvi, age: 22 Student/Writer
No not at all. In fact a couple who thinks a live in works out for them then it must work out for themBeing married to someone doesn’t really prove that you have a successful marriage and that you’re leading a happy life. With the rate of divorces increasing over the years, if you’re not sure about your partner, it’s only sensible to live in together first. If you marry that person or not later on is completely your decision But it does save you a lot of emotional and financial trauma. Cuz getting a divorce in this country is again a tedious, expensive and time consuming process Not to forget that you’ll be looked down by the society for that as well.
I don’t like or support prostitution. I don’t even like or support having sex with a bunch of people. But I don’t see how prostitution is any different than the millions of people who sleep around every day, besides the fact that the prostitute is paid for it (at least she or he is getting something out of it). People say prostitution should be illegal because it spreads diseases. What about everyone else who sleeps around daily? Does that not spread diseases? But yes, prostitution is against my morals. Sleeping around is also against my morals. But I don’t see how sleeping around is any better than being a prostitute. Personally I feel “NOT, not a good idea.” Unless there is an established legal commitment to each other prior to cohabitation, then the odds are that one member is setting up the other one for a great fall. Will regulating and legalizing marijuana like other hard drugs such as alcohol and tobacco, would promote drug addiction amongst youth?
Aman Goyel, age: 18 Student
Homosexuality always has been, and always will be. I don’t think it is immoral, but it certainly can be indecent and licentious, just like hetero-sexual behavior can be. Personally, I think we spend way too much time thinking about what someone else does in bed. We’d be better off to think on more valuable contributions. Majority of Indians consume marijuana, and legalizing it or not won’t really make much of a difference. Though personally I feel it should be legalized but should be regulated by the government as they do so for alcohol.
Yes women are strong enough to make their own decision. If a certain job type suits them the why not! As long as they have the courage to stand up to it. Prostitution should be legalized and the government should also take initiative to make laws for them to protect them from sexual abuse and other crimes they are victim too.
Same sex parter is not a crime at all So when we talk about same sex it’s just as normal as a male falling for a female The funny part is how something which has absolutely no wrong consequence whatsoever is being given so much of importance. It’s the basic human right every person must have. To love and be committed to whoever they want to It’s not a mental condition and it’s not even about choice.
Personally the difference between live in and marriage is a legal bond; that’s it. What sense does it make if one is not ready to commit and walk out? Live in are as good as marriage as long as there is a sense of understanding.
Addiction has nothing to do with legalisation There is youth even now which is addicted to marijuana. And the thing about things that are forbidden is that it’s more tempting. See addiction towards anything has nothing to do with any external force. People take marijuana as wrong thing where as it is actually advised to cancer patients and they miss out on the harmful effects of somethjng like day sugar. Sugar is addictive. Sugar is very harmful for the body yet you dont see any one against what sugar does to you.So kids are going to do what they have to If you legalise drugs like marijuana or you dont They’re still going to do it. So no legalisation wouldn’t lead to youth addiction
Marijuana should not be legalized yet, as i feel the people in our country dont know the limit it should be consumed in; due to the lack of knowledge. There fore first proper knowledge should be given before legalizing it
No, there is a cliché ‘love is blind’ if it really is then what is the problem is having a life partner of the same sex. It all depends on trust and compatibility.

Check their wall page, if there aren’t any frequent updates and the person has not commented or has posted or has joined any online groups, it’s most likely the account is a fake. WEBBED Surf smart ,Stay safe ! With the advent of Internet, social media and the surfacing technology; Life has been made both – easy and sleazy! Social media has made the bigger world smaller with the underlying premise that interaction with more people is fundamentally better than interaction with fewer but; the youth today is slicing their attention so thin; that the fish is becoming translucent. There is a fine line between “what you know” and “who you know”! The effects of social media on the youth has clearly deviated their track. The prolonged hours sitting online and building connections cannot be trusted. Do they even understand the expense of the new and a few cherished friendships? Probably not! Without a doubt, the social networking has entwined everyone with its butterfly touch but this entire cyber crime fiasco cannot be swept away under the carpet. Cyber crime rise can be seen because of wrong motives,
which include sexual harassment, revengeful behavior, extortion, morass and quick money making. These trends so insidiously sanctioned by the Internet’s seeming anonymity and intangibility, are prompting more wrong doings by the youth both online and on non real platforms. Facebook, instagram, twitter have become like oxygen to breathe. Youth befriending random requests are seeking for love, trust, stability and a sense of belonging; which they feel they might find in a relationship online. New cases are coming into light everyday due to this. Statistics says, “Today 85 percent of the people connect to social media everyday and out of those just a very few of them think twice before uploading their stuff on social media websites and 45 percent of people have agreed to the fact that they have received something weird in the form of a spam. Also 47 percent of people say that they have received random request
from strangers on facebook and also shockingly 25 percent of people agreed that their photographs have been misused on facebook in some way or the other. (Source courtesy: http:// www.adgully.com/mtv-s-newshow-webbed-to-be-aroundcyber-crime-55517.html) There is an increasing need for cyber education among the youth; which will help them use the resources of the Internet to their benefit, at the same time deter any potential threat they may face. We think we known someone; but in reality we don’t and that’s social media’s fault and more so, our own. Inevitably the menace of cyber crime is viral but definitely curable.

Frame it the way you want it Let’s be ourselves everyone is wearing it. This kind of attitude is basically seen in the teenagers where they only follow the crowd. Everyone is wearing neon’s so even I will, animal prints are in so even if it does not look good on me ill still wear it. There is no harm in trying but where we lack is when we know that it’s not meant for me but still ill wear it because everyone is. Many a time’s people make an obvious fashion faux pas. Fashion has had its fair share of blunders through the ages. Why do we forget that just because it zips, doesn’t mean it fits. The elusive search for the perfect body, has given polarized perspective to the youth; which preposterously pushes them into internalizing the way people feel about their weight and shape. This has led grounds for fertilizing the misconception of a distorted image of one’s own self, poor confidence and swamping moral. “FIT” does not mean “THIN” or being a macho, neither does it mean to have achieved your idealized figure; it simply means’ hav-

Yes, Yes, Yes!
The rhyme, that describes a little girl and how she must look. Barbie dolls and its association with glamour, fashion is how our young girls want to feel like and dress like. They not only love to dress them but also dress like them. Over the years such social stigmas of what a beautiful girl look like have made young girls think over and grow up consciously. Televisions, magazines, or internet has been another medium leaving an impact on these young kids. It is very difficult to find out that girl who just walked by, Is just a thirteen or an eighteen year old. It

Self Expression or Self Mutilation?
Chubby cheeks, dimple chin Rosy lips, teeth within Curly hair, very fair Eyes are blue - lovely too. Teachers pet, is that you? is quite a surprise when young girls who like to look hot, sexy and wear crazy makeup, put up Liners, latest lipsticks, poppy nail paints, and a lot of foundation base. When I was young, and my mom would be wearing makeup and I would look at her rather thinking how about picking up that lip color and paint my wall. Although it is not unusual for a girl to wear make up but these days, girls equate their self-worth on how they look on outside and are growing up with this psychology that their natural outlook is not acceptable by society and they try to hide their flaws which are natural for their maturing skins. While they choose to put up heavy makeups, they are putting their skins into risk. The chemicals that these makeups have are not

deal as it is business bringing in profit. They are setting up unrealistic body images, which are leading the youth to take up whatever is coming their way; in order to bring conformity with their favourites. Innocuous ways of becoming size zero and having the perfect six packs are being adapted, which can result in life risking behaviours. Societal standards of looking good is another factor that leads to immense pressure on youth. Poor body images; are triggering all kind of incorrect ways of looking good (crash diets, surgeries, diet drugs, supplements). We don’t realize; the more we hate our bodies, the more money we spend to ‘fix’ them. The stereotypical society has diverted from the essence of core beauty to a more bosomy women and herculean man!
suitable for younger ones. While some young girls have learnt to not look their age, a lot of older ladies also play wrong with their face. They also do major make up mistakes, they put on heavy shades of lipsticks and hide out wrinkles under thicker base. Color their hair with unusual shades, some uses red and some goes all grey. They do not understand the simple division of them trying to look like 20 in their 60’s will not convince others who look at them, Some older ladies attempts sick make up, uses shimmery eye shadows , thick and cakey makeup and put on lot of liners which totally goes off the track and look more seductive and yet ugly. Tattoos have been around for many centuries. While earlier it was considered as a coming of age ritual, which later became a sign of rebellion and mutilation of one’s body is now becoming a way of self expression. Though in India, getting a tattoo done is still frowned upon, for those getting a tattoo think otherwise. For many it is a sentimental memento of a loved one, or a tribute to something the person feels connected too, tattoos are soon removing its stigma and evolving as a form of self recognition and expression. Tattoos are more popular among youth, but recently it is seen that
people often get a tattoo on the heat of the moment making them regret it later on. Is it somewhere related to “Peer pressure”? While many young people think tattoos are cool! And having one makes you feel superior, leading others to get inked without thinking is quite common. The whole self expression through tattoos is now permeating into an identity which is contributing an individual into feeling accepted or maybe even feared. Notwithstanding the current pattern, for some the choice to get a tattoo still warrants genuine thought. By: Sukanya Chatterjee
