Skiing Safety Tips The excitement and adrenaline rush that snowboarding and skiing provide keep many hooked on the activities during the winter sports season. However, as fun as they are, these activities have inherent risks that individuals have to be well-guarded against.
Here’s how to make the skiing experience safer: • Have the Right Gear – The proper equipment for a ski run includes helmets, goggles and properly-fitted ski boots. No skier should count on borrowed equipment to enjoy their time in the snow. Many ski resorts have ski shops that can provide the required gear. • Check the Weather – As ski slopes tend to be in cold-weather regions, dress in layers and bring an extra pair of gloves or mittens in case the first pair gets wet. • Get in Shape – A skier is likely to have more fun if they’re in good physical shape. Skiing demands a lot of the leg, back, shoulder and arm muscles, so having a training regimen that strengthens these areas should help keep the body strong and ready for the slopes.

• Know Your Abilities – While it’s tempting to aspire to participate in the next level ski trail, skiers are encouraged to stay within their skill levels to avoid the unnecessary risk of injury. • Rest – Skiing takes up a lot of energy, so take a break when you feel tired and be sure to eat and stay hydrated.
