GREAT-LOOKING SKIN EQUALS A
POWERFUL IMMUNE SYSTEM
Skin is your body’s largest organ.
And many people don’t realize it, but your skin is one of the most crucial parts of your body’s immune system.
When you take proper care of it, including feeding your skin well, the most gratifying reward may be that you look young and healthy.
Truly, though, the most important reward is that you are taking powerful steps to defend against – and possibly even help overcome – a wide range of health issues.
That’s because your skin is constantly being bombarded by potential toxins in the air, in water, and in virtually everything it comes in contact with.
If you’re taking proper care of this first-line-defense part of your immune system -- your skin -- it can do its job well and keep these invaders at bay…
And as a “side-effect,” really, you’re going to enjoy your youngest-looking skin no matter what your age!
(You’ve heard of probiotics and the “microbiome” inside your gut, right? Well, there’s an equally important microbiome on your skin that, when you take proper care of it, consists of around 1000 species of good bacteria. And that’s just one of the key components of healthy, beautiful, and toxinresistant skin.)
However, there is the VERY BIG PROBLEM…
MOST PEOPLE TODAY ARE UNKNOWINGLY ABUSING THEIR SKIN
Yes, that’s a strong statement, but it’s nonetheless true, as you’re about to see.
And it leads to another equally strong statement…
This abuse is the key reason why so many people’s skin today looks years or even decades older than it should look.
Even worse than that, as you can now tell, is that this abuse is weakening this crucial part of their immune system and putting their health at greater risk.
So, just how are people unknowingly abusing their skin?
YES, WE’RE GETTING BETTER AT THE INSIDE-OUT
Your healthiest and most beautiful and resilient skin depends on both an “inside-out” and an “outside-in” approach.
Today, many health-conscious people are making great strides on the right “inside-out” approach.
However, they’re still largely unaware of the right and wrong “outside-in” approach. That’s what this report is all about, of course, but first let’s briefly touch on the inside-out aspect…
From the “inside-out” means whatever you are allowing inside your body, such as the food and drinks you consume and the air you breathe.
The good news here is that the very same best steps you take to optimize your health in other regards from the inside-out -- such as eating plenty of fresh organic fruits and vegetables, exercising, and getting deep and restful sleep – are also the best inside-out approaches for healthy skin.
The bad news, though, is that so many people today are still harming their health and longevity by taking the worst inside-out steps – such as eating excess sugar and processed foods, not exercising, and not getting good sleep.
And this abuses the health (and look) of the skin as much as it hurts every other part of the body.
Now, I’d fathom to say that if you are reading this report, you are likely considerably more advanced in your health consciousness than the general population.
So, again, that means you are likely ahead of the curve when it comes to caring for your body from the inside out…
HOWEVER, WE’RE STILL WIDELY ABUSIVE FROM THE OUTSIDE-IN
Here at Purity Woods, we’re fans of being kind and also very straightforward.
People deserve that respect and honesty.
So, on that note…
If you’re not very carefully reading the labels of everything you apply to your skin and ensuring it is USDA Certified Organic – or that it somehow otherwise shows that it is independently verified to contain 95% or more organic ingredients – chances are very high you are unknowingly abusing your skin from the outside-in.
I know, another big and bold statement, so let me explain…
When you apply creams, serums, makeup, and other cosmetics, always remember that your skin eats.
Now, just like your mouth can’t consume a watermelon whole, your skin can’t eat everything applied to it.
The molecules have to be small enough for the skin to consume, which is why, for example, applying collagen onto the skin is worthless – collagen molecules are far too large to penetrate the skin.
However, so many of the over 1400 chemicals allowed in cosmetics in the U.S. that have been banned by over 40 other countries – including the over 200 possible endocrine-disrupting chemicals in use that have already identified by TEDX -- are molecules that are small enough for your 1 skin to eat.
And when you feed your skin these chemicals, it can be even WORSE than if you were eating foods containing these very same chemicals!
Why?
Because when you consume something through your mouth, it goes through a rather long digestive system that includes various “barriers” whose purpose is to weed out and dispose of toxins – most notably your liver.
With the skin, though, whatever it eats largely goes straight into your bloodstream.
So, with that in mind, please take note…
Each day, the average woman in the U.S. uses 12 different cosmetic/ makeup products containing an average of 168 ingredients.2
Now, so many of these ingredients are the artificial chemicals.
Take a close look at those cosmetic labels – even on many products proclaiming themselves as “natural” or “organic,” as I’ll cover below – and chances are sky-high you’ll see this is so.
And common sense would dictate that – in the same way we now know that eating foods with artificial ingredients is not good for you – feeding your skin artificial anything is not good for you.
Sure, these artificial ingredients in cosmetics may provide very short-term benefits, but the havoc they wreak on your skin and your overall health can be HORRENDOUS.
And this means not merely in terms of making your skin look far older than it should over the longer term.
Because, remember, your skin is a crucial part of your immune system… so it also means in terms of harming your skin’s microbiome and otherwise degrading your skin’s ability to protect against toxins.
Furthermore, as noted above, over 200 of these chemicals used in cosmetics that can go directly into your bloodstream when you apply it to your skin may be endocrine-disrupting.
That means they can interfere with and wreak havoc on your hormones, potentially leading to a wide range of serious health issues.
(And, by the way, in the case of skincare products, many contain penetration enhancers designed to make chemicals infiltrate your skin more deeply… that means they’re designed to suck those toxins into your body more aggressively. YIKES!)
FIVE TOP OFFENDERS TO WATCH OUT FOR
I must note that there are many “worst-offender” chemicals to watch out for on cosmetic and personal care labels, and to list them all here would take a book.
The smartest approach, as you’ll see in more detail below, is to only choose products that are USDA Certified Organic (or equivalent independent certifications such as in other countries) to ensure 95% of more truly safe, organic ingredients.
With that noted, here are 5 common offenders to watch out for:
1.Parabens
Parabens are cheap preservatives that are put in a lot of cosmetic products. But parabens wreak havoc on the hormone estrogen and can increase breast cancer risk. They also pile up 3 in the body over time.
2.“Fragrance”
What’s in it? No one can be sure. Companies are not required to disclose what chemicals they use to make up a “fragrance” in their products. But suffice it to say, if all the label says is “Fragrance,” you’re only safe assuming it’s a secret chemical cocktail, linked to allergic reactions.
3.Phthalates
Avoid phthalates at all costs. These chemicals are well-known 4 for causing a range of issues, including reproductive dysfunction, congenital disabilities, asthma, diabetes, and ADHD. They’re used in many products to make them more liquid, like moisturizers and skin lotions.
4.Triclosan or Microban
These chemicals are used to prevent bacterial growth. On the surface, you’d think that would be a good thing. Remember, though, your skin contains of microbiome of beneficial bacteria, and triclosan and microban don’t discriminate between good and bad bacteria. They may be responsible for the rise of superbugs and other dangerous illnesses. 5
5.Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS)
SLS is a common ingredient in a range of cosmetic and personal care products. It makes soaps foam and also acts as a thickening agent. But it can be deadly thanks to the manufacturing process that is responsible for giving us SLS. Byproducts in SLS are linked to kidney and liver dysfunction. 6
BEWARE OF
“ORGANIC” AND “NATURAL” COSMETICS, AND “GREENWASHING”
IN GENERAL
Now, to be fair, I want to stress that many people have been unknowingly abusing their skin, and therefore their bodies and health, with that stress on “unknowingly.”
It’s not your fault if you’ve been applying serums, creams, makeup and such containing all these chemicals for years, because only now is the public spotlight just starting to be shined on this important health (and beauty!) issue.
Like the conventional food and pharmaceutical industries, the conventional cosmetic industry is a powerful beast, producing over $170 billion in annual sales.
They don’t want their highly profitable boat rocked, and let’s just say that, like those two other powerful industries, they hold tremendous sway over the government.
As usual, in other words, it’s up to you to make the changes you need to make, because they’re not going to do it for you anytime soon.
Before you make any moves to try cosmetics calling themselves “organic” or “wild-crafted” or “natural,” though, there’s something crucial you need to know:
Words like “organic” and “wild-crafted” and “natural” are thrown about very loosely today to cajole people into buying.
When you look closely at the label, though, it may refer to only one or several ingredients being organic.
Worst still, beyond this one or several organic ingredients, it may also contain a variety of synthetic and harmful chemicals.
This is often referred to as “greenwashing” people, but other appropriate terms for it could be bamboozling or conning people.
How can they get away with it?
Well, in the cosmetics industry especially, these sorts of claims are not highly regulated and largely have no legal definitions.
Your “natural” beauty cream may contain cancer-causing petrochemicals, for instance (as was revealed in 40 percent of such products in one study), 7 and it’s all perfectly legal.
Even stating “organic” isn’t a guarantee of safety, as these “poser organic” products do not have to meet actual USDA Certified Organic standards, which as you’ll see below are rigorous and only a select number of cosmetics companies have actually achieved this status.
So…
HERE’S THE GREAT NEWS, AND THE 3 “GOLDEN RULES”
The great news is that your skin is highly receptive to positive change.
Regardless of how old you are or what issues you may have, your skin may be the fastest and easiest thing you can improve on your body.
Yes, this is great news for your health, because the skin is such a crucial component of your immune system.
And yes, this is great news for your appearance, because the right changes and habits will lead to your youngest- and healthiest-looking skin possible (and once people take the right steps, they’re often pleasantly astounded at just how young-looking that is!)
On that note, and from the outside-in perspective when it comes to any type of cosmetics you apply to your skin, here are 3 Golden Rules to follow:
ONE: Look very closely at those labels, including the ingredients, and never just believe the cosmetic company’s hype.
Does it show the USDA Certified Organic (see below), which independent of the company ensures that 95% or more of the ingredients are truly organic, natural, and safe (or some equivalent designation, for example if you live in a different country than the U.S.)?
If you are looking at an advertisement for the product online, does it show the full ingredient list of the product, such as in the FAQ area at the bottom of the page? (If it does NOT show the ingredient label, there’s typically a reason!!!)
TWO: Choose only products displaying the USDA Certified Organic seal (or your country’s equivalent if outside the USA).
As noted above, don’t fall for “greenwashing” tactics like a product calling itself “natural” or “wild-crafted” or “organic.”
Look for the USDA Certified Organic designation, or a similar designation you know of that guarantees verification independent of the company.
For a product to be independently verified as USDA Certified Organic, it means it must prove:
● It contains at least 95 percent true organic ingredients
● The remaining 5 percent of ingredients are on an approved safe list
● It is free of synthetic additives, including pesticides, chemical fertilizers, petrochemicals and dyes
● Was not processed using industrial solvents or irradiation
● It is free of genetically modified organisms (GMOs)
On the farm for USDA Certified Organic products, organic producers use only natural processes and materials in their farming systems, processes that contribute to soil health, use natural pest and weed management and promote the conservation of biological diversity and ecological balance.
USDA Certified Organic standards prohibit the use of sewage sludge, synthetic fertilizers and genetic engineering, and require producers to maintain the integrity of organic crops, preventing contacting between organic and conventionally grown crops, as well as contact with prohibited pesticides and fertilizers. 8
THREE: Just like the foods you put into your mouth, feed your skin only the healthiest USDA Certified Organic ingredients that provide the full RANGE of nutrition your skin needs to look and perform its amazing best.
As you now know, the way your skin looks is a direction reflection of how healthy it is and how well it will protect you from toxins and disease.
Beautiful skin, in other words, is NOT only skin deep!
And you’ll remember that what you feed your skin largely goes directly to the bloodstream, so you want to ensure it is USDA Certified Organic pure.
You’ll also want to remember that, just like the foods you put into your mouth, your skin needs a range of nutrition to look and perform its best.
Right now, there’s a lot of attention focused on boosting collagen levels out there, for example.
However, using a skin product that’s only high in vitamin C to help collagen is kind of like only eating vitamin-C-rich foods but ignoring all the other essential nutrients.
Collagen is important, but it’s actually just one aspect of healthy, younglooking skin.
Another key aspect, for example, is elastin…
And addressing your elastin is even MORE important because it’s the breakdown of elastin that most leads to wrinkled, sagging, “old-looking” skin!
(You can liken collagen and elastin to a mattress: collagen is like the filler padding, but elastin is the actual springs. And if the springs go, everything goes.)
So, you’ll want to use a range of the right ingredients that provide your skin the range of nutrition it needs…
Including the BIG #1 INGREDIENT below, the red maple leaf extract, which can work wonders for restoring elastin!
So, with all of that in mind, below and based on research are 10 of nature’s most powerful ingredients to feed your skin.
They are presented in countdown style to the big #1.
However, it must be noted that of course there is some subjectivity with any list like this.
Everyone’s skin shares many similarities, but each person’s skin – and what each person would like to improve with their skin -- is also unique. As such, certain ingredients may rank higher for you personally.
With that said, these ingredients were chosen for their effectiveness and the range of benefits they provide.
After reviewing these ingredients below, please do head to PurityWoods.com and read about the #1 bestselling Age-Defying Dream Cream
YES, the Age-Defying Dream Cream does provide your skin all of these ten ingredients, and yes, it is USDA Certified Organic (of course!)
Okay, then, onto those 10 ingredients your skin finds absolutely delicious…
10.Camelia Seed Oil
(Camelia Oleifera)
Also known as the oil-seed camelia and tea oil camelia, this remarkable oil comes from cold-pressing the seeds of camelia oleifera, a flowering evergreen shrub native to Asia that the Japanese call Tsubaki, or “rose of winter.”
Camelia seed oil has a molecular structure and weight similar to skin’s natural oil, so it is absorbed well deeply into the skin.
Rich in vitamins A, B, C, D, and E, camelia seed oil is excellent for moisturizing skin, helping to achieve velvety smoothness.
It’s also loaded with nutrients that strongly support a youthful glow and combat signs of aging.
Camelia seed oil is particularly rich in squalene, which is an important part of the skin’s hydration system and which helps protect skin against external environmental elements and the “old-looking” skin they can otherwise cause.
Bottom line is that camelia oleifera is one of the best-kept Eastern skin secrets… and now you are in on the secret!
9.Cocoa Seed Butter
(Theobroma Cacao)
Hey, if it comes from the same plant as chocolate – the Cacao tree – it’s got to be good, right? And this classic skincare ingredient truly is.
Cocoa seed butter is rich in natural compounds that promote soft, supple, and radiant-looking skin.
It is high in oleic acids, linoleic acid, palmitoleic acid, vitamin E, and vitamin K, which can reduce the appearance of aging, such as wrinkles and fine lines.
Cocoa seed butter is also high in stearic acid, which can actually help eliminate dirt, sweat, and excess sebum from the skin.
And it contains compounds that can help lock moisture into the skin… tighten the skin… enhance the skin’s appearance of brightness… and even support healthy inflammation in the skin.
Bottom line is that your skin loves cocoa seed butter as much as your mouth loves chocolate ☺
8.Astaxanthin Extract
Exposing ourselves to too much sun over the years can get us in trouble, just like exposing ourselves too much in other ways can also get us trouble (not that I’d know that personally, mind you.)
In fact, one of the biggest reasons skin can look wrinkled, weathered, and otherwise “old” is because of excess sun over the years.
Enter the superstar ingredient called astaxanthin.
Astaxanthin comes from both certain marine plants and animals (astaxanthin sourced from organic algae is most recommended.)
It’s a very highly effective “carotenoid,” an antioxidant that provides superior protection for skin.
And it has very powerful blocking properties against the sun’s UV rays. This supports the skin in combating photoaging and that “weathered look,” such as the appearance of dark spots and wrinkles from sun-related damage.
Astaxanthin has also been shown in clinical studies to help with elasticity, skin moisture and moisture retention, and in promoting skin smoothness while decreasing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
7.Sunflower Seed Oil
(Helianthus Annuus)
Sunflower oil, prized for centuries by Native Americans, is rich in vitamin E, an antioxidant powerhouse that can also ward off damage caused by overexposure to the sun.
What’s more, sunflower seed oil contains beneficial linoleic acid — even more than olive oil — which has skin barrier-enhancing properties. 9
In fact, sunflower seed oil is so good for your skin that when adult volunteers applied six drops of sunflower seed oil to their forearm twice a day for five weeks, they had improved integrity of the outer layer of their skin as well as improved hydration.10
If you’re looking for the ultimate hydrator for your skin, sunflower seed oil fits the bill.
Pediatr Dermatol. 2009 Nov-Dec;26(6):669-75.
Pediatr Dermatol. 2013 Jan-Feb;30(1):42-50.
6.Mango Seed Butter
(Mangifera Indica)
Mango butter, which can be cold-pressed from the seed, has absolutely exceptional skin-enhancing effects.
Rich in vitamin C, mango seed butter can help to enhance collagen synthesis for smoother, plumper and brighter-looking skin while acting as a protective factor against skin damage from the sun.
Mango seed butter provides supreme moisturizing and soothing benefits. It provides your skin an abundance of antioxidants and vitamins, including vitamin A, known for smoothing the appearance of fine lines.
Fun fact: In India, the mango tree is a sacred symbol of love and some believe that they can even grant wishes. If your wish is for younger-looking skin, at least, they certainly and literally deliver!
5.Aloe Vera Juice
(Aloe Barbadensis)
If you have an aloe vera plant at home, cut off a leaf and scoop out the gel inside.
Applying this vitamin- and enzyme-rich gel to your skin may help with exfoliation and has powerful anti-inflammatory and soothing effects (it’s great for anti-aging and, as many already know, also great for cuts and other skin wounds.)
It has also been shown to significantly reduce the appearance of wrinkles and boost elasticity in human skin.
Interestingly, research showed that consuming aloe gel can also be beneficial because it may increase collagen production and decrease the collagen-degrading MMP-1 gene expression.
Researchers went so far as to say, “[O]ral aloe gel supplementation may be a novel anti-aging strategy that prevents and repairs cutaneous [skin] photoaging.”11
NOTE: Aloe vera can have a laxative effect when taken internally, so start with a very small amount to avoid any… ahem… surprises.
4.Camu Camu Extract
(Myrciaria Dubia)
Camu camu is fun to say, but that’s the least of its benefits. It’s a low-growing shrub that grows near rivers in the western and central Amazon basin in South America, and its berries are even more of a nutrition powerhouse for you than the famed açai berry.
Camu camu is a rich source of polyphenols including flavonoids, phenolic acids, tannins, stilbenes, and lignans. With a higher phenolic and vitamin C content than many other tropical fruits, camu camu is bursting with antioxidant and anti-inflammatory power.12
Because of this, applying camu camu extract to your skin may provide a range of powerful antiaging benefits, such as lightening the appearance of dark spots, smoothing the appearance of wrinkles, and evening out your complexion.
The high concentration of vitamin C in camu camu is a powerful way to stimulate collagen production and supports antioxidant protection against photodamage from the sun 13
Along with the amazing benefits of applying it to your skin, also note that eating camu camu has shown strong potential to help with weight loss, protect the liver from injury and prevent immune-related disease
As noted in the Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine:14
“[T]here is a pressing need to increase the visibility of natural products such as camu camu to point to their potential benefits in populations that are not only aging but also experiencing the negative effect of inflammatory and oxidative conditions.”
It can be both eaten and applied topically to the skin; whatever products you use that contain camu camu, though, make 100% certain it is USDA Certified Organic to ensure purity.
3.German Chamomile Extract
(Chamomilla Recutita)
Chamomilla recutita (Matricaria), also known as German chamomile, is not just another pretty flower.
This natural plant has very impressive antioxidant, antimicrobial and antiinflammatory effects, to say the least. 15
While chamomile tea and extracts may be useful for dampening systemic inflammation, chamomile applied to skin penetrates below your skin’s surface to the deeper layers and has a soothing, anti-inflammatory effect 16 that helps to calm dry or irritated skin areas.
It’s also excellent for promoting the appearance of tighter and healthier “plump-looking” skin.
Physician. 2016 Sep; 8(9): 3024–3031.
2.Indian Gooseberry Extract
(Phyllanthus Emblica)
Indian gooseberry is a medicinal plant long used in ayurvedic systems of medicine to restore lost vitality and vigor. 17
Ayurvedic texts consider Indian gooseberry to be a Rasayana, which is a compound ideal for longevity and rejuvenation.
And science is showing that is precisely the case.
Indian gooseberry is a very rich source of vitamin C, amino acids, minerals and phenolic compounds – all reasons why it’s so beneficial to apply to your skin.
Indian gooseberry stimulates pro-collagen (a precursor of collagen) while 18 protecting your skin from sun damage, helping to prevent dark spots and wrinkles. 19
It’s also known for shrinking and unclogging your pores, leading to a fresher, smoother skin appearance. J Basic Clin Physiol Pharmacol. 2010;21(1):93-105.
1.Maple Leaf Extract
(Acer Rubrum, Acer Saccharum, Acer Pennsylvanicum)
Native Americans long treasured maple leaves for their healing properties. Modern science is finally catching up and seems to be in total agreement
Because new research shows that maple leaf extracts may be amongst the closest things we have on earth to a real fountain of youth!
You see, it turns out that maple leaves are packed with phenolic compounds that can boost elastin and may restore the look of youth to your skin better than anything else out there.
When researchers looked in detail at red maple leaves, they found 106 such compounds, including 11 that may have never been discovered before and 75 that weren’t known to exist in red maple until now.20
Now, perhaps THE key reason skin can increasingly look wrinkled, saggy, and otherwise “old” is because the elastin in skin that maintains skin’s elasticity increasingly breaks down.
Well, certain glucitol-core-containing “gallotanins” in maple leaves were even found to inhibit this breakdown of elastin in the skin, and at the same time they may also fight skin inflammation and lighten age spots. 21
The researchers described them as having the potential to tighten up skin like a plant-based Botox, and with just topical application — not an injection.22
