« MENU » Microneedling MD Blue Water Spa Serving Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill, Cary and Surrounding Areas Microneedling MD at Blue Water Spa is a skin treatment designed to naturally induce collagen production and treat pigmentation. Medical aestheticians use a high speed pen with sterile tips to trigger the natural healing response which firms skin and smooths texture. This is an excellent option for darker skin tones that cannot tolerate thermal skin firming methods. Microneedling MD improves scars, wrinkles, and pore texture for a result of smoother, more luminous skin.

How is Microneedling MD different than dermal rollers? Microneedling MD uses a medical grade high speed pen that vertically stamps the skin with sterile needle tips. The depth and speed can be adjusted by the medical aesthetician depending on the patient’s skin. This method is controlled and causes very minimal injury to the skin while creating the healing reaction that gives dramatic results. Dermal rollers create larger insertion sites because of their sweeping movement, giving the skin unnecessary tearing and damage. The depth on dermal rollers cannot change throughout the treatment on different areas of the face and there are areas that rollers cannot reach easily. The dermal rollers used at home for multiple treatments are not sterile and may be harmful. Blue Water Spa only uses sterile single-use tips and have properly trained and experienced medical aestheticians perform the Microneedling MD treatments in a clean and safe environment. Our proximity to The Plastic Surgery Center allows access to surgical-grade sanitation products and our very own Sterile Processor on site. Blue Water Spa has the highest standards for the health and safety of our patients. How often can I have Microneedling MD and how many treatments will I need? Most patients can have Microneedling MD every 4 weeks, or as advised by your aesthetician. The results of this treatment are cumulative and collagen may continue to develop long after each

The Microneedling MD device is able to produce similar results to a fractional laser, without the risk of hyper or hypo-pigmentation, as well as other side eects and downtime associated with these potentially damaging ablative heat based treatments. Patients with darker skin tone are not ideal candidates for thermal treatments as it can damage the skin and cause increased hyperpigmentation. Microneedling MD does not involve heat and is safe for all skin tones. Who is a candidate for Microneedling MD? All skin tones can safely receive Microneedling MD. This treatment has proven to reduce acne scarring, pore size, uneven skin texture, wrinkles, crepey skin, and sun damage including hyper- and hypopigmentation. Contraindications include active acne, active infection, active herpes outbreak, blood thinner medications, cardiac disease, chemotherapy, collagen vascular disease, eczema or skin conditions in the treatment area, keloid scarring, pregnancy or lactation, raised lesions or severe solar keratosis, rosacea, scleroderma, sunburn, or vascular lesions. It is recommended to wait two weeks after facial fillers or botox to have Microneedling MD. What to expect: During your consultation, your aesthetician will review the consent form with you. A numbing cream can be applied prior to the microneedling treatment to ensure comfort. During the treatment you may feel slight prickling sensations or nothing at all. Immediately following microneedling a soothing hyaluronic acid is applied and pure o2 is sprayed on the skin to cool and soothe any redness or sensitivity. As an active treatment, Microneedling MD may cause erythema, swelling, itching, or burning sensations. This will generally disappear within a few hours. Patients may feel tender and warm on the face for the rest of the day and it is advised that skin is kept cool and calm. The day following treatment most patients can resume normal activity, wear makeup, and are quite comfortable.
