After 18 years at our former site Durhams Farm, Chastleton, we have now moved! We feel so lucky to have been offered this beautiful new site to rebuild our business by Daphne, David, Freda and Robin. With a lot of hard work from our brilliant team of staff and help from our fundraising supporters, we are now up and running again. We still have a lot to do but the horses are very happy, settled and we love it. A special thank you to those who’ve supported our fundraiser. The funds raised have contributed towards deconstructing the old site, building new stables, installing metres of fencing and so on: www.gofundme.com/cotswoldriding We have no phone line yet so please contact us on 07508 773255 (Pat) 07584 209206 (Sally) We can’t wait to welcome you all to Cotswold Riding now at Upper Woodhills Farm. Children & Mental Health

Some years ago, we would not have seen any articles on mental health due to the age we then lived, when the subject was taboo. Alas mental health issues were probably as prevalent amongst children those many years ago as they are today. The situation has been exacerbated by the pandemic when families were confined to their homes and children educated online with varied success rates. In fact, some of the online education contributed towards mental health issues. A survey carried out by YouGov looked at the key sources of anxiety in young people and found that over one in four(26%) schoolchildren aged between 10 and 15 are worried or sad about their families not having sufficient money. This equates to above 1 million children throughout the country, more research needs to be carried out on this issue alone.
What is Mental Illness?
Most youngsters who suffer from mental illness do so in very different ways. It can be diagnosed as a disorder of the mind and includes anxiety, depression, eating, addiction, self-harm and personality to name but a few.

How does a parent identify a problem with the child? Marked swings in mood and behaviour will give an indication, particularly if the youngster’s happiness is also affected. These are some of the signs when parents need to address the situation.
Resources
Fortunately, in today’s age of the internet there are a multitude of free resources to help the child, parent, teacher or any other person suffering from mental illness, but the first port of call must be the doctor. Good sources of guidance can be found on the internet for example www.stem4. org.uk/resources which supports teenage mental health. Here you will find leaflets and booklets for teenagers to guide and advise on what steps to take. In addition, schools will have an active mental health policy and an appointed Designated Safeguarding Leader. No doubt they will support you all the way to seeing your child recover from their issues. References: https://stem4.org.uk/ https://www.facebook.com/childrensmentalhealthrocks/ John Harris
