Update from Community Works Community Works is challenging you! The pandemic has caused unprecedented challenging and worrying times for everyone. The effects of social distancing, furlough, working from home and lockdowns is taking a huge toll on our mental health and wellbeing; and will continue to have lasting effects long after lockdown is over. We need your support and at the same time give you something positive to think about. There are many ways we can improve our own mental health including ‘learning something new’ ‘giving time to others’ ‘being active’ and ‘connecting with others’. We’re asking you to set yourself a challenge which will raise money for us or to offer to share your talents with others. This year we are raising money to support people who are suffering from mental ill health. You can support us in three ways: Challenge 1: Hold us a fundraising event. This could be anything from a garage sale, a cake stall to climbing the 3 peaks.

Challenge 2: Make us your charity of the year. Cash donations are incredibly important as we need to raise all of our funding ourselves. Challenge 3: Share your hidden talent. We are looking for volunteers to run or help with hobby groups for our members to help them improve their mental health including arts, cooking and DIY. For more details and to get involved, please contact us: Community Works CIO, Community House, 14a Market Place, Thirsk. YO7 1LB. 01845 524494 Info@communityworks.uk

for this.
The Easingwold Singers are delighted that at last they have a concert planned for Saturday 4th December to be held at our favourite venue for their 2021 Advent/Christmas concert, St John the Baptist & All Saints Church, Easingwold commencing at 3.00 pm.
It will be a shorter concert than previous performances but will still encompass some beautiful and joyous music. Rather than go for an epic piece together with congregational carols, it will be a celebration of singing together as a community choir. We look forward to seeing as many people as possible on the afternoon of 4th December. Details of where to obtain tickets are shown advert in this edition of InFocus Easingwold & Thirsk.
The programme will be in a different format on this occasion in order that it is done in accordance with best practice re. Covid Guidance in order to protect everyone. The choir is sure the audience will appreciate the necessity

Top tips for the Winter season Make sure pets are not left outdoors for too long, just like us they can develop hypothermia if they remain in the cold for long periods. Small pets like rabbits and guinea pigs are particularly vulnerable and you may want to bring them inside if possible, or make sure they have extra bedding to keep them warm. Salt and grit can also be harmful to dogs and irritate their paws. After walks, wash their feet and make sure there is nothing stuck between their pads. Keep fur between pads trimmed to prevent ice-balls forming which can also be painful for them. If left outside cats may seek warmth in dangerous car engines, or get trapped somewhere without access to food and water. Make sure their catflap doesn’t become frozen over and stuck so they can’t

get back in. It is a good idea to keep them inside when it gets really cold, make sure they have a litter tray to use indoors. Be very careful if it is icy outdoors and keep your dog on the lead if you may pass frozen water. Call for help but don’t go after your dog if they do run onto ice, it can be extremely dangerous.
