One of the easiest ways to promote your website in order to generate traffic and increase your earnings. Press releases have become very popular in recent times and I too have jumped on the press release bandwagon. I love writing press releases! After I have written a press release I feel a great sense of achievement and the more I do the wider my smile becomes. There are several different types of press releases that you can be involved with including reviews, product launch, Website or Blog launch and a change in product. However if you have never written a press release you will probably find it extremely daunting and pretty frightening. Often you will put it on the back burner and decide to get back to it at a later date. That was me once until I decided I needed to take charge of the situation and no longer be afraid of it. But I would have loved a product telling me what to do first and this is why I have written this e-book for you. So Lets get started!

Stage 1 – Press Release Keyword Research The first thing you need to think about it is that there are lots of press releases out there for the world to see and yours needs to stand out from the crowd. You want the publisher to love your press release and tell the whole world about it. All you need for this to be possible is: Researching Skills Creative Talent Media Insight When you think about what publishers look for when they go through the reams of different press releases is which ones are newsworthy and will benefit the readers. This can be anything from scandals to triumphs but at the end of the day the publisher holds all the cards. They will publish what they want the public to know and nothing else. They also decide on the size of the story and this is what will influence the public the most. If it has a very small space inside a newspaper most people won’t even bother reading it. However if it is on the front page there will be many people that will read it, some will do this as they are leaving a newspaper shop absorbing all the information straight away. This is why your press release needs to stand out from the crowd. You also need to investigate who your market actually is. It is no good if you are advertising a local event and then try and hit a state newspaper it will be a complete waste of time and energy. The first part you need to consider when writing an online press release is that your keyword research has been completed correctly. People are so obsessed with getting such a perfect position on Google that they always go for keywords that are totally out of their league. I have seen many people publish press releases and then use “internet marketing” or “make money online” as their keywords. They are basically making a huge mistake as not only are the keywords never going to give them the traffic that they want but it is such a broad term that it will not necessarily fit in with their press release. ©2005-2009 DSM Publishing Limited. You want to do a little keyword research and go for the words that more suit the details involved in your press release. For my word checking I use WordTracker and is probably the most well known. You can go and check it out for yourself at: http://www.freekeywords.wordtracker.com Avoid using Google Adwords system as this also includes the amount of searches for words that marketers are planning on using for their campaign. Therefore it is unrealistic and much higher than what the real results would actually be. You will then type in the name of the keyword related to the press release that you want to write. It can then be very simple to get the results that you’re looking for. I have chosen to use the words “Make Money Online”. After typing in the details I get the following daily click results:

I would now minimise these details on my desktop and head over to see what Google’s results are like. When I open Google I type in a similar search criteria with quotations. I have chosen “How to make money online”. These are the results that come up:
As you can see there are over 2 million results and you’re probably freaking out by now thinking how on earth I am supposed to compete with that. Well the truth is you can and you WILL. The results can then be broken down to people’s preferences and often is the case by searchers on the internet. So if you then typed within those results with another search it would seriously break down the numbers and it would then be very, very easy to compete. Just enter whatever details you would like to knock it down with in the search box as shown below with the main title.

I would highly recommend doing this as you want to know what you need to write to be the top dog and this is the perfect example. After skimming through the article I decide to find out more about the keywords used. At the top right of the page there is a link called Ezine Publisher simply click on this link and it will give you more details about the article and this is where it benefits you. When you scroll down to the bottom of the page you will come across this section:
As you can see this will then bring up all the keywords that are used within this article. What is really astounding is the fact that very little keywords have been used in this article and this really does impress me. Just think in general how many keywords you often see on Articles, Blogs, Press Releases and Forums. Imagine the potential that you can create if you just doubled the amount of keywords and created decent content. Stage 2 – Researching your Press Release I advise that you check out three different places for your press releases before you submit it in order to make sure that your content is unique. Stage 3 – The title of your article The perfect title of a press release has to be user friendly and human reader friendly. However if you have to make a choice between the two it always has be search engine friendly as that is the result that matters. BUT WHY? This is because the title of your press release will often appear in the end of domains through several press release and article sites. If it is then chosen correctly it will then help you climb up the search engine results. Let’s go back to the keywords that I suggested that you use earlier:

I have done this stage for you now but if you are new to press releases it may be more worthwhile to you to do this part of it last. This is because you may not have decided exactly what to write and you want the summary and body to effectively link to one another. The way I write a press release summary is to ask a question and then say how the press release answers this particular question. There is also another alternative that lots of other press release writers use and that’s copy and pasting the first few lines of your press release which can also work. Alternatively the first paragraph could be a problem and in the later paragraphs you can then answer this question with the solutions that they are looking for. Stage 6 – Press Release body Now the true secret of the perfect press release body is to make sure that you don’t give them everything they want. As you want them to click through to your website or Blog and if you offer everything they would have no reason to click through. Say for example you’re using the press release to advertise your new Blog if you tell them everything that is on offer, they might not see the need to find out more from you. Another important part with a press release is to make sure that you cover all of the 5 W’s. If you are new to press releases this is:
Who Where What Why When
By this point I am sure you know what your press release is going to be about and most importantly, how to write it for your target audience. Now though you have to consider how to include these points into your press release without it looking rehearsed. The only exchange you can make on these words is replacing the why for how if one is more appropriate than the other.

Once you know the answers to all of the questions you will need to arrange them in a format that will lead to pulling the audience towards your product or service the best. Who? This should be answered in the title and the opening summary as the person that is viewing the press release wants to know who has created the product first before anything else. The details will not need to be too in depth as a simple DSM Publishing presents does the trick perfectly. Further on in the press release you should also include the business information with a particular reference of the email address to contact for further details about the product or service that you are writing about. A press release should also include specific details of who initiated the press release. For example was it the CEO of a company that organised a partnership in order to make the deal possible or was it someone else? If you were talking from a charity point of view was it the girl next door that raised a set amount of money or was it the local millionaire that created a charity auction. At the end of the day the public want to know this information and it is up to the person that writes the press release to provide it. What? What is happening? Or is it something that is happening to someone? This is what the audience wants to know and you need to deliver on this as soon as you can. The general place to start on this is to discuss things that will happen rather than what is expected to happen. For example Thales Prado will hold an interview with Samantha Milner on Wednesday night, should be replaced with Thales Prado will interview Samantha Milner on Wednesday night. If the subject of the Press Release has lots of what’s cram them in, in order making sure that one flows from another until they have all been included.

When? Time is one of the most important parts when it comes to a press release. After making sure your press release suits the audience they will want to know that it is the perfect time for it. Firstly, you should plan your time so that the product or service that you have an announcement about can be as close to it happening as possible. It is no good having it released to the media a month after it actually happened. People will lose faith in you if you do it too far after the event. If a CEO has left your corporation the public should be informed about it as soon as possible. The truth is many people will know about it if you leave it too long therefore it is no longer newsworthy. The same can be said for new products, if your client created a new product last year there is no point in telling the world about it now. The only exemption to the rules is if they brought out a new version then you can promote both of them at once. Unless it is an amazing product that you expect people to queue down the street for there is no need to be specific with the exact hour that you plan on releasing it. The date will be fine or even next week we will be bringing out a product will look just as good. Where? This can be very important especially if the product or service is only available to a set area of your country. With my products I don’t have to worry about this as I sell worldwide but if you have a small shop in England for example there is no point broadcasting it to America. It is also a possibility that a news story in America could affect people that live in Asia so you have to remember this when you are planning your press release. The closer your press release is to your targeted market the higher the chances are that it will get published and people will take note of the contents included in it.

Why? (Or how?) If you view a few press releases you will see in the majority of cases after the summary the next point that is made is always the why or how. If you are reading a press release about lots of job cuts at a local bank you will not accept the information until you know why. You will want to know that the recent mortgage crisis has affected the bank and they have no choice but to cut jobs in order to save money for the bank. This could also be to avoid it from going into further financial crisis. A good example would be with a charity organisation. They could be announcing a new event and the why would include the reason for needing the money. When doing the 5 W’s you should always remember to have them in a logical order and having them in the best order that would suit which information you want the reader to know about first. After you have written your initial lead pulling press release finish it off by going into more detail of each bit of information. It should always finish with a way for the reader to take action, whether it is visiting your company, donating or visiting the website or Blog. In the case of the body for an interview with Samantha Milner will look like this: An interview with Samantha Milner by Thales Prado fits firmly into the “how to make money online” category. As you have probably guessed by now, the whole thing is loosely based around the system Samantha says can enable you towards creating your own online business. A bold statement indeed. It also comes with many illustrations showing you exactly how to do it along with extra and useful tips surrounding Internet Marketing. Short paragraphs keep the reader interested 2. concise to the point comments that intrigue readers The other reason that I wanted to stop you is that the next part is a negative of the press release. You may ask me why? Its simple people think a product is too good to be true if it just features the good points and think that you’re going too far with the hard sell. You certainly don’t want to come across like that! Well here is the negative part with a clever positive spin on it for you: The information is a long term strategy as far as I am concerned and whilst it’s of high quality Samantha is showing you several of her money making systems and this doesn’t give you the chance to go into great detail like you would on a single e-book of one method. However it is obviously a workable how to make money online system that gives you plenty of ideas to work from. I like it!

For example I can’t see you having the same results in the dog grooming niche. But if you’re into the making money online niche then this is something that you would be advised to try. It is the chance for the reader to take their call of action and should never be taken lightly. So at this point what do you write? I would suggest that the easiest and quickest way to do so is to type it up first in Microsoft Word or a text editor and then copy and paste it into the form provided. This way you will be able to bring up any spelling or grammar mistakes and make sure it is as perfect as it can be! Once you have submitted the press release you will get an email notification telling you that it is live and on the system. In the mean time you will need to check on it in the PR Log marketplace.
