Parking Sensor Parking sensors are designed for universal installation on all kinds of motor vehicles. The range is designed to allow professional installation of parking sensors regardless of the vehicles design. (See vehicle applications)
Vehicle Applications
Electrical installation.
No 1. For vehicles with metal bumpers such as vans and also some 4 x 4s a kit with rubber sensors must be installed. These can not be painted.
Just two very simple electrical connections are required. No 1. Connection to 12v negative supply or ground. No 2. Connection to 12v positive reversing signal (directly at reversing lamp bulb)
No 2. When installing on vehicles with plastic bumpers always check that there is not a metal bumper beam directly behind the required sensor position. Parking sensors will not operate correctly if they are mounted into or positioned close to metal. Parking sensors should only be mounted into plastic. Most modern cars have designated positions for factory fitted sensors and by removing the bumper the installer can see exactly where the sensors should fit. Failing this, an inspection of the bumper should reveal four positions where sensors can be installed in the optimum position away from any metal parts. No 3. Parking sensors emit an ultrasonic beam to detect obstacles while manoeuvring. However, they will also pick up the ground if mounted too low. Parking sensors should ideally be mounted at between 45cm and 60cm from the ground. If required sensors with an angled head can be installed. No 4. Vehicles with tow bars. Unless the tow bar is unusually large or situated in the “line of site” of the sensors it is possible to work around it. The two inner sensors can be spaced further apart than normal so that they will not pick up the tow bar.

Colour Coding. Parking sensors can be painted to match the colour of the vehicle. Each sensor can be rubbed down and spray painted, ideally using a spray gun.
Positioning of Sensors Sensors should be spaced across the vehicle to give even coverage. E.g. measure the bumper from left to right and divide by four. Position the two outer sensors on the flat part of the bumper just before the bumper starts to turn the corner around the wing. Remember, the outer or corner sensors are more sensitive that the centre ones so if positioned too far around the “corner” of the vehicle they will begin to pick up objects along the side of the vehicle which is not desirable.
