Part of the appeal of Bokarina Beach was that due to the wetlands behind the beach, access was somewhat challenging. The area behind the beach covered a massive 74 acres and is one of the last remaining dune-side land parcels of land on the Sunshine Coast.
But the beach has a history that stretches back to WWII where the stretch of land between Dicky and Bokarina beaches were used for artillery target practice by the Royal Australian Artillery (and is how Battery Hill got its name).
Perhaps the most intriguing aspect of the history of this site can be traced back to the 70’s and early 80’s, where, according to local folklore, this fenced off parcel of land became known as “Shangri-la” and was said to be a haven for nudists who enjoyed many a carefree party on the beach.
All of this is now gone, and the wetlands have since been reclaimed, and what remains is a stunning, beachfront location that will offer a Sunshine Coast lifestyle like no other.
