Green tips for Valentine’s Day
V
alentine’s Day, Feast of Saint Valentine, Cupid’s Day, Love Day, Singles Awareness Day, or whatever people want to call it, this day is when lovers and even strangers become extra sweet. Everyone has plans while some don’t celebrate because they believe every day should be full of love. People might have different opinions about this V-Day but if ever you’re one of the hopeless romantics – have you considered expressing love for your family, friends, partner, while conserving energy or taking care of the environment at the same time? Here are some cool date ideas for keeping relationships in a good green way: •
Lunch out. Take your Valentine in a (literal) lunch out. Find a place such as plazas, open court, terraces, or atriums – these are some places ideal for a midday date. You can pack lunch or buy take-out food. You can also create a mixed CD to be played during your lunch date. It can also be an instant gift for your Valentine. There’s nothing wrong in bringing back the times when mixed tapes and CDs are the best gifts lovers give to each other. But, remember to properly dispose of your trash.
•
Park date. Find a park, set up the blanket, cook dinner, and prepare for a night full of funny conversations with your Valentine. Don’t forget to bring a trash bag for your litters. This will be more fun because you made a little extra effort, appreciated your surroundings, and avoided the hassle of reserving or even waiting in restaurants.
•
Bike ride. Instead of using your car to go to your destination, make this day extra special by finding a date place near your location and ride a bike on the way there. You can save gas, energy, and relive the inner-kids in you. If you really want to spend more time together, you can also walk on the way to your chosen place.
•
Be crafty on your gift ideas. Instead of buying expensive things, make a card or stuff from recycled materials. There are various do-it-yourself (DIY) websites in the Internet, so you won’t have any trouble even if you feel that you’re not that creative.
•
Go vintage. Try a local antique shop this time, instead of buying in a jewelry shop. When you purchase a vintage jewelry, it doesn’t require the raw materials and carbon emissions that new jewelry does.
