Pinoys, very optimistic this 2013 -- SWS Filipinos have a “very high” optimism for the current year, anticipating that the economy will be better, Social Weather Stations (SWS) survey showed. Out of the 1,800 respondents who were surveyed between March 9 to 22, 2013, some 39% expect that their lives will improve in the coming months. The net personal optimism (NPO) across the country improved to 32, classified by SWS as “very high,” compared to December 2012’s 29, classified as “high.” By island groups, the NPO in Luzon advanced to 38 from December’s score of 35. Mindanao’s score went up to 26 “high” from a score of 19 “fair.” However, Visayas' NEO remained “high” at 23. In terms of social classes, Class D or masa's optimisim rose to 35 from 30, classified as “very high.”
On the other hand, class ABC's optimism dropped from 40 “very high” to just 28 “high” while class E stayed at 24 “high.” Filipinos are really looking at the bright side this year because 35% of the respondents believe that the country’s economy will improve, with only 11% who are pessimistic about it. Meanwhile, the country's net economic optimism (NEO) was recorded at 23, classified as “very high,” up four slots from 19 in December last year. Class D's NEO was recorded at 24 or “very high.” Also, class E's NEO rose to 20 “high” from 16 “fair.” Meanwhile, class ABC's NEO remained high; however, the latest score dropped from 28 to 21. Luzon's NEO rose to 27 from 26 while Visayas went up to 16 from 11. Likewise, Mindanao's NEO improved to 26, "very high" from 9, "high" in December 2012. For NEO, the SWS classifies respondents' rating based on the following range of scores:
