DTI conducts PQA Assessors Preparatory Course The Department of Trade and Industry-Center for Industrial Competitiveness (DTI-CIC) organized a seminar-workshop on Philippine Quality Award (PQA) Assessors Preparatory Course on March 10-14, 2014 in Widus Hotel in Clark, Pampanga. Facilitated by ACF Consultancy and Training Services Managing Director and Senior Consultant Angelica C. Fraginal, the preparatory course aimed to develop the participants’ technical competencies to evaluate PQA applications, conduct a quality management assessment of their respective organizations, and provide an opportunity for participants to be accredited to the PQA pool of assessors. Some DTI employees from the Head Office and regional offices joined participants from the private sector in the five-day training which involved lecture, individual and group exercises, and comments writing workshop.

The PQA is the highest level of national recognition for exemplary organizational performance given to excellent public and private organizations. It is equivalent to the very prestigious Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award in the United States and other National Quality Awards worldwide. The DTI Secretary is the Award Manager who is responsible for the conduct of the awards process and validates and endorses to the President the list of awardees selected by the Board of Judges. To date, a total of 50 recipient organizations out of the 121 applicant organizations have been awarded with a total of 59 recognitions. Of the total applicants, 87 were from the private sector and 34 from the public sector.

The award has four levels, namely: PQA for Performance Excellence (recipient has achieved high level of excellence and is a national and global role model); Recognition for Mastery in Quality Management (recipient has demonstrated superior results and is a role model in the Philippines); Recognition for Proficiency in Quality Management (recipient has achieved significant progress in building sound process); and Recognition for Commitment to Quality Management (recipient is just beginning its quality journey and has planted seeds of quality and productivity). So far, only one organization – United Laboratories, Inc. – had been awarded the PQA for Performance Excellence in 2008. #
