OTOP items showcased at 2 festivals, earn P6.3M One Town, One Product (OTOP) items from two provinces in the country were recently showcased in two different festivals – the 13th Piña and Fiber Festival held at The Trade Hall of the Capitol Grounds in Aklan last 23-29 April 2012 and the 11th Gat Tayaw Tsinelas Festival held in Liliw, Laguna last 21-29 April. The former earned some P4.7M in total sales while the latter, P1.6M. The Piña and Fiber Festival served as one of the regular highlights of the Aklan’s Founding Day Celebration. It gave opportunities for Aklan’s micro, small, medium enterprises (MSMEs) to showcase the province’s locally-developed premium quality products such as piña, abaca, and raffia loom woven fabrics, fashion accessories, gifts, furnishings and decorative crafts, processed meat and fish, pastries and confectionery, engineered bamboo, etc.

Meanwhile, the 11th Gat Tayaw Tsinelas Festival highlighted a trade fair that gave tsinelas makers of Liliw opportunities to showcase their quality OTOP products. Aside from footwear, the exhibit also showcased other native products such as uraro or arrow root cookies and lambanog or coconut wine.

The quality and affordable footwear made from Liliw, Laguna have captivating designs and appealing colors to suit one’s fashion taste.
Considered as the Footwear Capital of Laguna, Liliw is the primary source of durable footwear, most notably slippers or tsinelas. Liliw footwear is famous not only to local residents and neighboring municipalities but also to balikbayans. The event was a product of joint efforts by the Laguna local government unit (LGU), DTI-Laguna, and Department of Tourism (DOT)-Laguna.
