DTI awards Laoac LGU their first GPB fund The municipality of Laoac received a check amounting to P665,000 through Laoac Mayor Silverio D. Alarcio Jr., during the Grassroots Participatory Budgeting (GPB) project fund awarding last 27 May 2014 at the town’s Municipal Hall. The money will be used to fund five projects’ proposed by the municipality’s Civil Society Organization (CSO) and endorsed by their LGU to DTI for funding under the Bottom-up Budgeting (BuB) which was renamed to GPB. These are the following projects: IGP on Recycled Materials Vinegar Making and Processing Bamboo Development Project Malunggay Processing Tomato Processing This is the first ever turn-over of GPB funds by DTI to proponent LGUs this year. Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) released the funds promptly because LGU Laoac has been efficient in submitting their complete requirements and was seen to be ready to implement the project. According to Laoac Municipal Planning and Development Officer (MPDO) Magdalena Rosal, it is a monumental accomplishment as “among the 14 national funding agencies which LGU Laoac submitted proposals, DTI is the first to award GPB funds to the first LGU recipient in Pangasinan and entire the region, and that is LGU Laoac”.
