Sikat Pinoy National Food Fair earns P13.8M; National Handicrafts Fair opens today The Sikat Pinoy National Food Fair (NFF) Piling-piling Pagkaing Pilipino, held at the SM Megatrade Halls 1, 2, and 3 of SM Megamall on August 21-25, 2013, generated some P13.8M in total sales, benefitting over 260 exhibitors coming from the country’s 16 regions. Cash sales and booked orders amounted to P9.02M while deals under negotiation reached P4.81M, with sales coming mostly from inquiries from importers, wholesalers and traders, and offices. The top performing regions in terms of cash and booked sales were Region 3 with P1.45M; Region 4A, P1.33M; and National Capital Region (NCR), P1.31M. “We have adopted the tagline ‘Piling-piling Pagkaing Pilipino’ to underscore our goal to bring together the finest homegrown products, regional specialties and delicacies from 16 regions of the country in one venue,” DTI Undersecretary for Trade and Investment Promotions Group (TIPG) Ponciano C. Manalo Jr. said.
The Sikat Pinoy National Food Fair showcases the best of Philippine food products such as coffee from Benguet, snack food from Iloilo, longganisa from Vigan, cashew nuts from Palawan, chicharon from Cebu, tablea from Agusan del Sur, and many more. Organized by the Department of Trade and Industry-Bureau of Domestic Trade (DTI-BDT), in partnership with DTI Regional and Provincial Offices, the 5-day event generates some P13.8M in total sales. Organized by the Department of Trade and Industry-Bureau of Domestic Trade (DTI-BDT), in partnership with DTI Regional and Provincial Offices, the 5-day event was visited by some 34,100 buyers. The top five best-selling products were the following: Snack foods with P4.74M sales Consolidated food products,P1.46M Coffee, P1.20M Fresh and processed fruits and vegetables, P1.18M; and Cocoa and chocolate products with P1.01M. BDT awarded the Most Innovative Product to Region 6’s Himaya-an Deli for their powdered bagoong. The Most Innovative Packaging was given to NCR’s Karden Global for their wine bottle. Meanwhile, NCR’s Aging’s Food Delight won the Best Dressed Booth. The Top Seller Award went to Region 4A’s Samahan ng mga Rizaleño sa Sektor ng Agrikultura at Pagkain, Inc. (SARAP, Inc.), which gained P142,868 in cash sales and booked orders. Along with the food fair, DTI-Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) set up the Coffee Pavilion that showcased various coffee selections from different provinces in the country. The Pavilion earned P15,528 in cash sales. BDT also organized cooking demonstrations for food entrepreneurs and enthusiasts. In addition, seminars were organized for the exhibitors and the public. The NFF is part of BDT’s marketing strategies in promoting the micro, small, and medium enterprises’ (MSMEs) products locally. After the successful food fair, BDT is opening today the Sikat Pinoy National Handicrafts Fair Piling-piling Produktong Pilipino also at the SM Megatrade Halls, SM Megamall in Mandaluyong City. Running until September 23, 2013, the fair will exhibit furniture and furnishings, home décor, gifts and housewares, holiday décor, accessories, and jewelries. “This is the second edition of DTI’s national trade fairs under our newly introduced Sikat Pinoy brand,” Manalo said.
