The ever-popular Jumeirah Golf Estates Pro-Am by AHR Group was played on Wednesday 16th February on the Fire Course with the second day of play being held on Thursday 17th February over the Earth Course. The fun and exciting two-day event saw 25 teams of 4 competing in a friendly best two net scores from four format. In addition to this we had 26 UAE PGA Professionals playing in far more serious 36-hole Strokeplay tournament.

The weather was beautiful for both days, however the course was playing rather difficult with the club deciding to offer the Sunday pin positions of The AVIV Dubai Championship for day 1 on the Fire Course and the 2021 DP World Tour Championship over the Earth Course.

Team Results

The winners of the team event were the team lead by professional, Cian Hurley of Emirates Golf Club, Shames Al Hashemi, Yousuf Al Hashimi and Mohamed Abdulla who scored an impressive 29 under for both days!

In runners up spot with a combined score of 27 under, led by Professional Jules Lompech of Abu Dhabi Golf Club, Wael Soliman and Moustafa Shahin. An incredible effort for three players to score so well in a team event. In third place, with a score of 24 under par were the team lead by Louis Gaughan of ProSports International, Marc Beattie, Aaron Jones, and Liam Kivlin.

In fourth with a score of 19 under, needing a card playoff was professional Matt Rice and his team of Gurbax Singh, Satnam Kaur and Rachida Nasser.

In fifth place, again, on 19 under par was Dubai Creek Golf and Yacht Club Teaching Professional Matthew Brookes, and his team Tony Brookes, Aditya Ganti and Haiyan Mujarkech.

Richard Cuddihy hit a tremendous shot into the 17th hole where there was a Nearest the Pin competition, Richard narrowly missed out on driving home in a brand-new BMW that was generously sponsored as a hole in one prize by BMW, AGMC. One very notable point is a huge congratulations to Jumeirah Golf Estates member Jacqueline De Vries on making a stunning hole in one on the eighth hole of the Fire Course during the first round.

Professional Event

The scoring in the professional division was excellent considering the difficult pin positions that were in play. (-1). One shot behind on level par were Oscar Yeomans of Jumeirah Golf Estates and Louis Gaughan of ProSports International.

“Congratulations to all the winners on their fantastic performance over the two days. It’s a pleasure for us to host such an event at Jumeirah Golf Estates, however we must thank both the amateurs and the professionals for their continued support. Last year was the first two day pro-am we hosted at Jumeirah Golf Estates, we are trying to build the event to be known as the event ‘to not be missed on both amateur and professional schedules’, a huge thanks must go to the event partners, BMW AGMC, African + Eastern who allowed us to offer hole in one prize, along with some refreshments during and after the golf. Lastly a massive thank you to our main event sponsors AHR Group whose contribution allowed us to really elevate the event to the next level and were extremely generous in adding additional funds to the professional prize pot which allowed us to hand over 10,000AED to the winning professional”.

Stephen Hubner, Director of Golf

The lead changed hands several times during the second round, with Oscar double bogeying the first. However, with three birdies he managed to make the turn in level par, home advantage helped Oscar pull through during the closing stretches of the round, and a fine birdie on the difficult 18th hole secured Oscar a 71 (-1) second round and confirmed a four-shot win in the event. Oscar a rather new professional to the region, has already secured himself as one of the leading UAE PGA players with two wins in his first two starts.

Three players finished tied for second place, Matt Rice, Steven Munro, and Matthew Brookes finished the tournament with an overall score of 147, 3 over par. Matt Rice and Matthew Brookes had two similar days both shooting a 73 & 74, whereas Steven shot a 71 & 76.
