Try out something new this summer! Join us for workshops, talks, tours and classes, as part of Culture Connects @ Richmond Barracks. Culture Connects is our year-round programme that invites people in Dublin to try out new things.
You are welcome to visit us Tuesday to Saturday 10am to 5pm, with regular late opening on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. You can take part in one of our many workshops, talks and tours, or simply drop by to visit this historic building, browse in Inchicore Library (also open on Mondays) or enjoy our peaceful garden space.

Goldenbridge Cemetery tour
Weekly every Thursday and Saturday at 1 pm

Join us for a guided walking tour of Ireland’s first garden cemetery, founded by Daniel O’Connell almost 200 years ago, as Ireland’s non-denominational burial ground for any and all Outdoors religions. The tour is approximately 75 minutes.

Friday craft social
This weekly drop in craft session is aimed at those who Indoors want to get together, make things and enjoy being creative. Whether you are trying to finish an old project, start a new ✔ one or just experiment, this is for you. All levels of experience are welcome. Facilitated by visual artist Niki Collier.

Sing for fun!
Indoors
Sing for Fun is for anyone who is interested in singing as part of a group to feel good. Learn to sing different types of ✔ songs and do fun vocal warm-ups and exercises. No singing experience needed, just a willingness to take part and enjoy yourself.

Native Irish trees
Explore and learn about the native trees of Ireland. Discover Indoors & the important role they play in supporting biodiversity and Outdoors learn how to identify different species. Make a cyanotype print of a leaf to bring home with you. This workshop is led ✔ by Polly Rowley-Sams and will include a short walk to a local green space. Children aged 7+ are welcome but must be accompanied by an adult.

Creative drawing for beginners
Learn how to draw in a relaxed and mindful way and discover the joy in drawing and mark-making. In these workshops for Indoors adults you will develop your confidence at drawing and discover new ways of being creative. Each week will cover
a different skill or technique so you can book to come to one or book to come to them all.

‘Sudden Light’, stained glass talk and practical demonstration
Kerryming Sun is an Irish-Chinese stained glass artist who Indoors & makes contemporary glass artworks and windows in Outdoors Dublin. In this talk, Kerryming will give an introduction to the technical processes involved in making stained glass
and offer a step by step demonstration of the Tiffany Method. Please note this talk will include a short walk to St. Michael’s Church in Inchicore.

Sustainable Saturdays: Reuse and repair social
Upcycle your old clothes into new treasures! Use your Indoors creativity to keep textiles out of landfill, chat and meet new people. This monthly clothes upcycling workshop is led by

Create your own Scent
Join award winning soap maker Suzanne Clarke to explore the scents of the Richmond Barracks garden and create your Indoors own signature scent from foraged and local ingredients. At the June workshop you will make a lip balm infused with the ✔ scent you have created and in the July one you will make a candle. Suitable for adults and accompanied children aged 8+.

Exploring fabric printing
Join artist Liz Walsh to explore fabric printing techniques. Indoors On the 5 of July you can learn how to carve a small lino ✔ block and use it to print a repeat pattern onto fabric. On the 12 July you can learn how to block print onto fabric using Indian wood blocks. You can book to come to one workshop or both. This workshop is for adults.

The Moving Choir
In-person
The Moving Choir is a series of collaborative and experimental workshops that combine dance and singing. They are co-led by Richmond Barracks artist-in-residence for singing Michael Outdoors McCartan and artist-in-residence for dance Mia DiChiaro. These lively workshops will take place outdoors in the ✔ Richmond Barracks garden (weather permitting) inspiring a deeper connection with nature and each other. The Moving Choir is open to anyone who wants to try something new in a fun and relaxed environment. No previous experience of singing or dance is necessary.

Big Bang Drumming Project
Join us for free drumming workshops on Saturday mornings with Brian Fleming and Nicolas Severin as part of the Big Indoors Bang Festival of Rhythm. The workshops will concentrate on the rhythms of the Mandingue people of West Africa, ✔ rhythms made for the popular hand drum, the djembe and the less well known accompanying dun duns. Beginners and improvers are welcome, drums can be supplied. Children over 12 are welcome but must be accompanied by an adult.

Big Bang Dance Project
Join us for free West African Dance workshops with Outdoors Catherine Young Dance and Godfred Asare of the African Dance Centre, as part of the Big Bang Festival of Rhythm. ✔ Every workshop is accompanied by live drumming. The Richmond Barracks book club takes place every month. There is an in-person book club that meets in the Barracks on the last Wednesday of the month from 7 to 8 pm. An online book club meets via Zoom on the last Thursday of the month from 8 to 9 pm. The book club is a relaxed and friendly space where we talk about the book we have read, swap book recommendations and have a chat. Everyone is welcome to join in.

Book club: ‘The Trees’ by Percival Everett
A series of brutal murders take place in the rural town of Money, Mississippi. Two detectives from the Mississippi Indoors Bureau of Investigation suspect that these are killings of retribution, but soon discover that eerily similar murders are ✔ ✔ taking place all over the country. Something truly strange is afoot. The Trees combines the genres of comic horror and crime fiction to take direct aim at racism and police violence in a fast-paced and provocative style.

Book club: ‘On Earth We’re Briefly Gorgeous’
by Ocean Vuong Indoors
On Earth We’re Briefly Gorgeous is a letter from a son to a mother who cannot read. Written when the speaker, Little ✔ ✔ Dog, is in his late twenties, the letter unearths a family’s history that began before he was born – a history whose epicentre is rooted in Vietnam – and serves as a doorway into parts of his life his mother has never known, all of it leading to an unforgettable revelation.

Move and Grow is a series of dance workshops open to families and individuals of all ages. These intergenerational Outdoors workshops will take place in the garden of Richmond Barracks where we will explore our own nature inspired movements. ✔ We will explore the lives of bees and butterflies in week 1, photosynthesis in week 2, the water cycle in week 3 and trees and soil in week 4. Our Biodiversity Worksheet

Learn about the importance of biodiversity and protecting the natural environment with games, drawing some fun facts too. Inchicore Library at Richmond Barracks
Since August 2020 Richmond Barracks has been home to the Inchicore Library, operated by Dublin City Libraries. The library offers a range of adult fiction and non-fiction material, a selection of young adult material and a junior library. A range of books on Dublin are also available in the library’s Dublin Collection. Items can be reserved online and collected at Inchicore Library. Printing and photocopying facilities are also available.

Each month Inchicore Library runs a number of groups that are open for anyone to join.
The Toddler Group meets Wednesday mornings from 10 am - 11 am. Due to its popularity booking is recommended at inchicorelibrary@dublincity.ie.
The Knitting Club meets on Thursdays from 3 pm - 4.30 pm and both experienced knitters and beginners are welcome to join in. It is a drop in event, no booking needed.
Library Opening Times June, July and August
The library is open 10 am - 1 pm and 2 pm - 5 pm from Monday to Thursday every week. It closes alternative Fridays and Saturdays, and on bank holiday Mondays. Below is a list of Friday and Saturday opening and closing.

Cultural Spaces Hire at Richmond Barracks
Richmond Barracks is a beautiful building with a rich historical background. Its many spaces and distinctive design make it a versatile and interesting venue for events, meetings and occasions.
Our building has six spaces available for hire, which can be taken separately or combined for a bigger event:
• A large hall space called The Gymnasium
• Two sizeable spaces for large meetings or workshops
• A café / kitchen space for meetings
• A large garden space
• A tent in the garden space suitable for performances
Our building and spaces are frequently used for a wide array of events - gala dinners, launch events, conferences, training days, private functions, productions and exhibitions.
We make your booking as easy as possible, with chairs, tables, projector plus screen, lectern, microphones and a PA System all available on request. We can also provide tea and coffee for your guests.

Our Harvest Fair will be on Saturday 9 and Sunday 10 September 2023
Our Fair in September will be all about upcycling, recycling and reusing. Visit stalls showcasing upcycled gems and recycled treasures made by local businesses, artists and craftspeople, eco-friendly workshops, and locally made treats to eat.
These quarterly fairs showcase the quality and creativity of the small businesses, craftspeople, makers and social enterprises abundant in the local area, as well as promoting culture, creativity and conversation.
