As an example, the financial and managerial accounting courses teach the fundamentals of income and cash flow statements and balance sheet accounting using real world examples of companies in the rail, ocean and motor carrier industries. Leverage the DTI Master’s Program to Support Training and Development Goals Choosing the Right Candidate: Usually high-potential experienced middle-management and above, five to ten years of management experience (or equivalent), and recognition as a future leader in the organization.
Sponsored Nomination: Companies frequently directly nominate candidates who are at a point in their career where graduate business management education would confirm and enhance their career development potential.
Solicited Application/Selection: Companies have used an “application” process for employees to express an interest in attending the program. There is typically a selection committee who reviews the applications and makes a final selection.
Informal Self-Selection: In some cases companies have been introduced to the program by an individual employee expressing an interest.
Funding the Program: Sponsorship of a participant in the program is an investment by the company in the development of their high-potential managers.
Full Company Sponsorship: In most cases, companies are fully funding students to attend and providing them with the six, one-week residencies away from work over the 18 months of the program. Payments are broken into six equal invoice amounts and billed over the course of the program.
Shared Funding Between Company and Student: Companies have used a shared funding approach in which the student pays a manageable portion of the tuition and the company covers the remainder, plus the travel and time commitment required. In some cases the student agrees to stay with the company for a period of time following the company-sponsored portion of the program. Also, companies may ask the sponsored student for a time commitment to remain with the company following graduation or an agreed upon repayment option.
Full Student Funding and Company Sponsored Time: In some limited cases, individual students have fully funded their own attendance in the program with their company’s approval to take the time off from work to attend the residencies.
Scholarship Assistance and Student Loans: Once students are accepted into the program they are able to apply for scholarship assistance from the DTI scholarship fund and to use student loans to help defray the cost of the program. The executive master’s program is also approved for the use of VA Educational Benefits.
Student Time Commitment: The residency structure is dedicated time for your top performers to look in-depth at the complex issues facing your company. Coursework done at a distance between residencies allows your high-performing employees to continue and progress on their career path. Timing of Student Selection Process:
