Dreaming with my Camera

“Go outside. Shut the door” Oblique Strategies

When I found night photography, it wasn’t a perfect fit. With an almost ADD personality, night photography required time and patience. Exposures lasting between 8 to 12 minutes meant that 4 photos of the same subject could take almost an hour. I soon learned that my camera was capturing the universe as we cannot see it. Waves melt into foam; clouds streak across the night sky as long, smokey trails. Time has no beginning or end. In one sense, neither do these photographs Alone in the dark, time had no meaning. My thoughts became dreams. I was dreaming with my camera. All images were shot with medium format film.
