SPRING 2011 | SANTA MONICA BEACH | CALIFORNIA
For this studio, two texts - Reyner Banham’s LA: the Architecture of Four Ecologies and Kenzo Tange’s projects were analyzed in their original historical context and re-interpreted as discourses in their new juxtaposition with their implications for the present. Focusing on the ecology of the beach, which Banham terms ‘Surfurbia,’ our proposal was to create an extension of the beach landscape by ambiguating the boundaries among what is beach, what is parking, and what is living space.

SPRING 2010 | CANAL + AVE OF THE AMERICAS | NEW YORK
One part science, one part creative problem-solving, this studio focused on exploring the efficiency of a component-based, parametrically-derived design evolved from research on nature’s forms of remediation and cleansing. We derived our filtration component by studying the cleansing mechanism and structure of the human nose. This component was then morphed to respond to a set of environmental factors.

SPRING 2007 | COLLEGE CAMPUSES ACROSS THE UNITED STATES
The studio prompt, termed ‘Pop-up,’ entails designing a temporary retail store to be constructed/deconstructed on college campuses to raise brand awareness for a major retail corporation. The final presentation entailed a comprehensive branding package, including take-aways, marketing events, as well as the design of the pop-up.

FALL 2008 | MANAYUNK I PHILADELPHIA | PENNSYLVANIA
The studio prompt involves the design of a turf wall based on a generative rule set or system. Ascribing to the growth system of tafoni, which are naturally-occurring cave-like features found in granular rock, I set up a branching system that would determine the position and size of turf-harvesting cavities.

FALL 2009 | NORTHERN LIBERTIES | PHILADELPHIA I PENNSYLVANIA
The studio prompt this semester, termed “Re-value, concerns re-adjusting performance characteristics of the condominium through a methodical process of reassessing with regards to concepts such as ecology, transportation, flexibility and lifestyle. Given the fact that the site abuts the highway, my intent was to create a design that aggressively clips onto the highway in terms of form, program, context, as well as ecology.

ADAPT-A-BENCH SITE: ALL PUBLIC OPEN SPACES IN KOREA MATERIALS: RECYCLED WOOD PANELS + GALVANIZED STEEL LEGS Adapt-a-Bench is a public seating fixture that consists of six modular units all linked to each another on one side. The six modular units, when lined up have dimensions equivalent to that of a traditional park bench. Adaptability, is the concept of my proposal. The term adaptability applies to three major aspects. Adapt-a-Bench is designed to be highly configurable in its function – as a bench, as a sunbathing chair, as a picnic table, as an end table, as a desk, as a day bed, etc. Adapt-a-Bench is created to seat groups of varying sizes, from the individual up to six people. Because Adapt-a-Bench is so highly transformable, it has the capability to mold itself to a vast array of public settings, from plazas or open spaces, to waterfronts or streams, to historical, cultural or civic sites, and even near pedestrian walkways. THE POSSIBILITIES OF CONFIGURATIONS ARE ENDLESS.
