From our Head of College Dear Parents and Guardians,
This week, we had the honour and pleasure of welcoming two very special visitors onto our campus. Deputy Master (External) of Dulwich College, Dr Cameron Pyke, and Chief Education Officer with Education in Motion (EiM), Ms Lesley Meyer, spent two full days touring the facilities and meeting with a diverse cross-section of our community, including students, staff, and parents. Dr Pyke annually 1/6
inspects the Dulwich College International schools to ensure quality and support the development of meaningful educational links between students and staff of the Dulwich group of schools. Our visitors spoke very highly of their experiences on campus and were thrilled to be able to visit in person again for the first time in over two years.
Today I co-hosted a special information session with Year 8 about the exciting new Ignite: Switzerland programme, exclusive to Dulwich students, which starts next year and will provide an annual opportunity for Year 9 students to spend 12 weeks boarding with their peers in Switzerland. They will engage in a wide range of exceptional outdoor and indoor learning experiences designed to foster self-confidence and independence. You can find out more about the programme here.

Weekly e-updates 2021-22: From our Head of College
On Tuesday, the Year 2 classrooms ‘came alive’ for Habitat Day, a celebration of learning where mums and dads had the opportunity to work alongside their children to create elaborate, brightly-coloured and carefully designed dioramas decorated with all kinds of wonderful flora and fauna.
Year 4 students dazzled the audience of parents and fellow students this week with their spectacular production of All the World’s a Stage, based on the works of William Shakespeare. I would like to thank Head of Drama Mr Readman for dedicating his time and energy to this project and also congratulate the Year 4 students on their amazing performance. https://myschool.seoul.dulwich.org/mod/page/view.php?id=1032

Weekly e-updates 2021-22: From our Head of College
I attended all three music recitals on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evening. Having been a musician in a former life, I have to say how blown away I was by the whole range of performances. Learning an instrument takes time, energy, commitment, dedication, and resilience. And then to get up on stage and perform in front of a large audience of parents, staff, and fellow students requires careful preparation, confidence, and no small amount of courage. Well done to everyone who performed.
There is still time to bring in your old books for our Used Book Donation Drive. Please see the FoD section of this e-update for more details. The FoD is also busily sorting through our lost and found items in order to return clearly-labelled items to their rightful owners during the course of next week. https://myschool.seoul.dulwich.org/mod/page/view.php?id=1032

(Unofficial) Dulwich Pub Night For several years before the pandemic, an enthusiastic group of dads from our community would get together regularly for social drinks at a local pub. After a two-year break, they have resumed this event and they would like to extend an invitation to the wider Dulwich community. Mums, of course, are also welcome. They will be meeting at The Timber House at the Park Hyatt Seoul in Samsung-dong on Thursday 23 June from 7pm until late. This is not an official school event. They are a group of parents who want to get together informally and meet new community members. If you have any questions, or would like to be added to the mailing list for future pub nights, please email Roman Kardashov at roman.kardashov@hyatt.com. https://myschool.seoul.dulwich.org/mod/page/view.php?id=1033

Senior School Transition Programmes On Wednesday, Year 11 returned to school for the IB Induction Day. They looked incredibly smart in business attire as they embraced the IB dress code. They attended sessions in each of their IB subjects, TOK, CAS and University and Careers Counselling. They were then invited to stay behind after the event for a small end-of-exams celebration and to say farewell to students moving elsewhere over the summer. Teachers commented on how positive the students were. Students commented on how tired they were at the end of the day! On Thursday, welcomed Year 6 students to Senior School to meet with teachers and learn more about what to expect when they join Year 7 in August. After gathering in the Senior School Library for an introduction to the event and a chance to meet the senior school mentors, Year 6 experienced a tutor session to learn about what to expect each morning. The students then attended introductory lessons in Science, Languages, Humanities, Computer Science and Mathematics. Teachers enjoyed meeting Year 6 and are looking forward to getting to know them and their families next academic year.
House Shout As I write this, the corridors of Senior School are filled with music as students practise for our first House Shout. Each house has chosen a different song to perform in this afternoon’s Senior School event. I am looking forward to watching the performance and judging. I’ll share details of the event next week. Best wishes for a relaxing weekend,

How to Become Incredibly Well-Read in One Summer We have a brand-new list of suggested reading for Years 11 to 13, featuring 80 titles from various genres of fiction and non-fiction. It is a mixture of classic and contemporary, and features recommendations from teachers as well as the librarian. Universities want applicants who can demonstrate an interest in the world around them, and IB students can improve their performance in language, literature and TOK (Theory of Knowledge) the more they read. The summer break, with no exams or impending deadlines, is an ideal time to put down the phone and get to grips with one or two of the suggested books for a good long read! The list can be found by clicking on the thumbnail below:
Of course, no list like this can be complete, but there are plenty more reading suggestions on the library catalogue, the library website and the Sora e-book platform. I am always happy to advise too, either in person or by email: library@dulwich-seoul.kr. Mr Tim Appleton Senior School Librarian

Nursery and Reception - Well done, for being such caring hosts this week. Parents were kept circulating around the room by their children, while enjoying Quadra’s delicious snacks and fruit. Many parents received Clean Plate Hero stickers and/or Eat a Rainbow stickers if they were spotted by their offspring to have eaten up all their breakfast and chosen a range of colourful foods.

Post pandemic performance: ‘passion, collaboration and trust’
Year 4's production, All the World's a Stage was a triumph. Our students have worked hard this term with Mr Readman to ensure that they lived up to their reputation following last year's The Tempest and they certainly did not let us down. The focus, dedication and commitment to their role was clear to see on stage and we could not be prouder of them.
Following their learning around Macbeth, students identified the main themes from the play: magic, power and jealousy. These themes formed the basis of our play with students exploring how they could portray them with movement and dialogue from other Shakespeare plays. https://myschool.seoul.dulwich.org/mod/page/view.php?id=1034

What can you make with one cardboard box, paint, glue, coloured sand, modelling clay, paper, pompoms, pipe cleaners, natural materials, and imagination? A mess? No.
As we approach the end of another exciting term at Dulwich College Seoul, Tuesday 14 June was not an ordinary day for children in Year 2. They invited parents and guardians into their classrooms for their ‘Celebration of Learning- Year 2 Habitat Day’, in which they were learning to create a story box.

In advance, the children had prepared a story plan which they followed to create extraordinary places for stories and characters to come alive. Throughout the morning, children explained in detail the problems their characters encountered and how they were solved. Adults listened attentively, and everyone worked tirelessly to follow the plans and represent the children’s ideas. The results were truly spectacular because they had one cardboard box, paint, glue, coloured sand, modelling clay, paper, pom-poms, pipe cleaners, natural materials and oodles of imagination.
The children thoroughly enjoyed the morning and greatly appreciated the support of their families. https://myschool.seoul.dulwich.org/mod/page/view.php?id=1034
