Message from the Headmaster daryl orch ar d BA (HONS), PGCE, MA, MBA
T
he second year of Dulwich College Yangon is now coming to a close and once again we have seen our school pass many important milestones over the past 12 months. Most noticeable amongst these have been the opening of our campus at Star City and the new Senior School building and black box theatre in Pun Hlaing, along with both of their associated sports facilities. During the year we have hosted an impressive number of events at the College in addition to the core time devoted to the mainstream curriculum and our regular co-curricular activities programme. This enrichment is vitally important to the students and is based around our commitment to provide a truly holistic education. Therefore, whether it be a maths Olympiad, or a Myanmar essay writing competition, a visiting Disney animator or top level musicians and dancers, our school productions or cultural celebrations, San Jose Soccer Academy or rugby tournaments, we have consistently provided events for children outside of their daily lessons which I believe are unique to Dulwich in Yangon. The College will be expanding its staff in August to reflect the growth of the school, with the appointment of a Head of Senior School, School Counsellor, Additional Educational Needs teacher and extra Mandarin teaching capacity. We will also be saying goodbye to a few of our current members of staff. Therefore, I would like to express our special gratitude to Ross
Atkins, Leafy Yan and Audrey Lui who have been greatly valued during their time at the College. We hope that they will all keep in touch, especially those staff who are moving onto another College in the Dulwich family. Elsewhere, thanks go to Dulwich College International for providing consistent support and oversight for our new school, and for sharing the expertise of the Dulwich family through our many DCI visitors to Yangon over the year – I am also told that we are a favourite place to visit from Head Office! The central ethos of our school is to create a thriving Dulwich community and I must therefore take this opportunity to sincerely thank our Friends of Dulwich members and many other parents who contributed their time to provide such enjoyable events as Founder’s Day, the Colour Run, Hallowe’en, bake sales and others. Finally, I would like to invite you to enjoy reliving the many memories of the past 12 months in this yearbook, which as ever has been edited by Piers Lloyd and our marketing team. It now remains for me to wish you all a relaxing summer break and I look forward to welcoming back our returning students and welcoming our many new children in August, all eager to embark upon the third year of being a proud member of the Dulwich family of schools!

he second full year at our Pun Hlaing campus has come to an end, and it seems to have passed at an even quicker pace than the previous. Flicking through the pages of this Yearbook, you will notice the enormous range of activities and experiences that the students have been engaged in. These range from successes within the classroom to new experiences outside of the school. Our co-curricular activities also continue to be a strength, with over twenty-nine options available to develop our students’ sporting, creative, musical and academic skills. Our new Senior School building, having opened last August, has been an excellent addition to the campus and the facilities have been enjoyed by students throughout the entire campus. The theatre especially has been well utilised and we have accommodated many wonderful performances from both our students and a range of visitors. Our success is underpinned by the support of our school community. The Friends of Dulwich were again instrumental in ensuring our Founder’s Day and Grand Opening was a day to remember. This day, and the
various other school events the Friends are involved in, have helped to support our charity, Aung Zayar Min Monastery. Service is equally an important part of the Dulwich ethos and it has been invaluable for our students to witness, and become involved in, fundraising for those beyond the school. Our Student Council has, once again, been working hard to ensure that the student voice is heard throughout the school. Not only have they organised many community events but have also been involved in preparations for the extensive school facility upgrades that will happen throughout the summer break. The Eco-Council has also been relentless in their quest to ensure that we become more sustainable as a school - this has included the addition of a cycle path from the school to the Pun Hlaing Estate, and changes to packaging within the school café. Finally, I will leave you to enjoy the many images in this yearbook. Do ask your children to talk you through them, as I am sure this will rekindle wonderful memories of a year which, I am sure, will be remembered for some time.
