James Meenan all set for World Games

EiGht years ago the games are due to take place in Berlin, Germany between June 17-24. Despite lighting up the World Games in LA on the running track back in 2015, the dream for James was always to play football. the 27year old plays as a striker for Newry Celtics Special Olympic Club and after impressing at national trials for the irish Special Olympics football team last year James was picked to join the panel who will battle it out for gold in Berlin next month. dry for further enquiries call 042 9352939 is

Greenacres man James Meenan returned home to a heroes welcome from the Special Olympics World Games in Los Angeles after he claimed three medals including a gold in the 100 metres, bronze in the 200 metres and a silver in the 4 x 100 metres relay. Later this year he will take part in his second World Games having been picked for the irish Soccer team.

James parents Eileen Meenan and James Cunningham are understandably very proud of their son who will be representing ireland on the world stage once again.

“We’re so thrilled for James” stated Eileen.

“this has been his dream since he was a child and even though he is known more for his running it was football that was always his main passion. he has worked really hard to get on the irish team and he’s very happy to be given the chance to wear the green jersey for his country,” explained Eileen.

According to James’ Dad Liam his Man Utd mad son knows where the goal is and is nicknamed ‘Secret Weapon’ by his teammates in Newry.
