Pictured, John Doherty and Patrick harrison from faughart Community Group with “The Bruce Boulder” which was donated and erected in faughart Graveyard earlier this week by The ulster Scots Society, Belfast. It is to commemorate The Battle of faughart 1318, in which the last ‘high King’ of Ireland, edward Bruce, was killed. edward was the brother of the King of Scotland robert Bruce and some of his remains (he was hung and quartered) are buried in faughart Graveyard. There will be an official unveiling of the boulder in the near future and it is hoped to have a direct descendent of Bruce’s in attendance. faughart graveyard also has the ruins of a medieval church and St. Brigid’s holy Well. It is also thought to be the birthplace of St.Brigid. The graveyard also has the best view of Dundalk and has amazing 360 degree views of our locality both north and South.
