At D端nn we execute complex ETFE projects any where in the world; we combine our exclusive top of the line fabrication equipment with our highly specialized staff in design, fabrication and installation.
T
he only one of its kind in North America. It is a controlled environment fabrication facility created by D端nn out of the need to offer a reliable option to the growing need for ETFE projects. Built in early 2015, over 600,000 ft 2 of ETFE film have been fabricated to this date.

Inaugurated on October 6, 1968 for the Olympic Games held in Mexico. It has also hosted two World Cup Championship events. After 47 years of use, our team was given the privilege to be a n integral part of this much needed makeover.

o retrofit the facade with an innovative design. To achieve this, Dünn proposed the use of ETFE, a material never before used in Mexico.

he Cuauhtémoc is a football soccer stadium located in the city of Puebla. Belonging to the State Government (Puebla) it has an capacity of 51,726 spectators, making it the sixth largest stadium in Mexico.

o create a new and iconic facade using ETFE technology; all this with an extremely tight schedule.
T
he facade is made up of 124 randomly placed ETFE panels that form mosaics in different shades of blue, white and transparent. At day time the facade is visible in its original colors, at night time the facade can be illuminated with different colors through the use if LED lighting creating a live screen. The CuauhtĂŠmoc has the largest single layer ETFE facade in the world today.

his is the newest design by prominent mexican architect Juan Jose Sánchez-Aedo, of Grupo Arquitech. Paseo La Fe shopping mall’s main roof is covered by a complex system of ETFE cushions that regulate temperature, light transmission and make it an iconic element in the city.

INSURANCE INSTITUTE

PROPOSAL
T
he design was inspired by the environment of Ruckersville, VA. The shape of the dome is reminiscent of snowy mountains and its shear size was achieved by placing a central arch (highest point) and laying three smaller subsequential arches to the right and three to the left. By doing this we managed to meet a clear span of over 328 ft without any central support.
FOR HIGHWAY SAFETY
T
he IIHS is an independent body created in the 1960´s and dedicated to measuring the level of safety in motor vehicles today. The vehicles are tested and rated in their facilities.

ore than 300,000 ft 2 of covered area without any central support that will allow IIHS to conduct year round car safety tests. The IIHS has recognized D端nn by our outstanding design and professionalism in solving all technical challenges for such a complex project.

T
he most important retail outlet in Mexico designed by prominent mexican architectural firm Sordo Madaleno and financed/owned by Danhos Group has now the largest automated roof in latin america.
CHALLENGE
O
n the main challenges were safety and coordination. Our works had to the executed atop a 20,000 m 2 (216,000 ft 2) existing cristal roof. At the center, a half sphere with 60 mts diameter. This half sphere is formed by independent automated triangles programed to open and close as desire by the operator. This allows the area to have an “outdoor feeling� and offer protection to the elements when necessary.

ntel Corporation, the world leader in chips and computer processors commissioned D端nn to design, fabricate and install a fabric ceiling for its New Technologies Center in Zapopan, Jalisco.

CHALLENGE
A
ll works were performed by US safety standards. All cantilevers on the building were very large and did not resist the loads of its own structural elements. Similarly the structure’s secondary cladding elements were to heavy; problem that was solved by using strong but lightweight fabric elements to clad the ceiling.
RESULTS
U
sing flexible membranes under high tension, we accomplished an appearance similar to rigid aluminum. Its durability is now doubled and UV exposure was reduced to less than that of any cover. Intel Corp has recognized the added value provided by DĂźnn is such an representative piece of architecture.

ubiré Business School is a ground breaking institution focusing on academic excellence and superior care for its students. This institution commissioned Dünn to create a multipurpose space for its headquarters in Zapopan. This new area was to allow parent/ teacher meetings, festivals, etc. The cover needed to be installed on the existing structure of classrooms building.

o cover six basketball courts with a free space structure to be used as a multipurpose area. As an added value, this cover would protect students from the sun and UV rays during their school and sports activities.

o cover the area without any intermediate support columns. The installation only allowed for rope access at great heights with the use of climbing equipment.

n iconic and representative cover for the school yard. Calculations made by our engineers allowed the use of the existing structural elements without adding additional support. The innovative cover design has been approved by students, parents and teachers of the institution.

he government of Durango requested D端nn to cover existing basketball and volleyball courts with a modern and attractive design. This sports complex is located within a large public park in the city of Durango. D端nn undertook an original and innovative concept based on round bent pipes, a form never used before in such venues. These structures now meet all standards to hold official games.

D
端nn was chosen to cover the bleachers section of Lienzo Charro (arena) in Aguascalientes, in order to protect the public from bad weather. The cover design is cantilevering out in the front and supported by braces on the back. The turn key project was completed in a record breaking time.

he government of Durango rehabilitated an old soap factory to turn it into a living social space. D端nn was asked to cover the sports area formed by several basketball courts to be used year round regardless of the extreme temperatures of the Durango desert.

he Francisco Villa Museum is a building protected by the INAH. Working on these conditions meant that any amendment should respect the integrity of a historical building. To cover two central courtyards in the museum, D端nn designed a very light flying mast structured anchored on the existing building.

he company SABMiller commissioned Dünn to replace all metal deck covers in their warehousing facility in order to maintain an fresher temperature in their beer storing area. Dünn conducted exhaustive test to our fabric materials in order to guarantee the ideal temperature to the finished product (beer) without changes in its chemical composition.

niversidad Panamericana needed to integrate an outdoor covered area where students felt comfortable and relaxed without leaving the premises. D端nn designed an outdoor environment with two overlapping paraboloid membrane covers. Our design purpose was to achieve an open space with natural lighting and ventilation while keeping harmony with the environment. LED lighting was later added to create a color changing canvas. 48

he Universidad de Guadalajara commissioned D端nn to create a a fabric membrane cover to a walkway connecting two buildings in Economic and Administrative Sciences (CUCEA) campus. This unique an attractive design was made possible considering the organic elements surrounding the campus.

he state government of Durango required to cover a multi purpose area with a iconic structure representing the spirit of the fair. Our design was inspired on an oval organic geometry which is one of the most resistant shapes found in nature. A 110 x 80 meters structural grid with 34 diamond shaped membrane panels covered an area of 5,990 m 2 with less than 15 kilos of steel per square meter.

n Campinas Brazil rains over six months of the year; The Brazilian oil company Petrobras required a temporary cover during the construction of its gas processing plant. D端nn manufactured and installed a pressurized air dome of 70,000 m 2 surface area and a maximum height of 60 meters. The structure was in service during the rainy season.

he National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI) donated an airplane to the Museo Descubre in Aguascalientes. D端nn designed and built a covered space to house the aircraft. ne of the first membrane structures in Guatemala, was designed, built and installed by our team. The conceptual design replicates two cones in the shape of volcanoes surrounding central american country. This is an airtight translucent structure that protects the internal commercial spaces.

uilding K is a historical building protected by the INAH. Years ago the roof collapsed leaving only the walls, it was then that Dünn was commissioned to make a retrofit to the site. The design was achieved by a lightweight fabric membrane cover suspended by poles and cables without affecting the original structural integrity of the building.

he 2015 Pritzker Award ceremony was a tribute to the work of the pioneer of fabric architecture Frei Otto. Dünn, in collaboration with Birdair built a replica of his famous Music Pavillion at the Federal Garden Exhibition in Germany. oth the time factor and working under strict safety EU standards. Dünn was able to engineer the project while keeping the architectural concept of “corn leaves” suspended in the air with a light and translucent material. Numerous architectural and structural challenges were faced during the process. The “leaves” were 20 to 30 meters tall and held together by an overlapping effect. Our team was able to achieve the goal of such complicated geometry with a modern material.

端nn designed and built an attractive mesh facade system for the Universidad Panamericana. This array is made up of individual rectangular mesh modules. This outer layer helped reduce the temperature inside the building and lower energy consumption. The entire building now has a new iconic look recognizable throughout the campus.
