ABOUT THE COUNTRY Chilean nature has made this country a place of cultural, economic and tourist interest. Chilean people cooperate in keeping the political order and the entrepreneurship vision, allowing the country to celebrate its 200 years of history as a democratic, modern, open, flexible and developed country. Located in the west coast of South America, its more than 4.300 km in length (2,485 miles) crosses deserts, mountains, plains, forest, ice fields… Privileged scenarios for the main chilean productive sectors, including mining, forestry, agriculture, crop protection, wine-making, fishing, tourism and industrial development. Based on the World Economic Forum 2011- 2012 Competitiveness Global Report, Chile is currently one of the most competitive countries in Latin America, where it is recognized as an emerging leader in the world. Many international analysts suggest that what happens in Chile will also happen later in other emerging economies in the world. These current indicators undoubtedly express that Chile is an excellent place to be considered for studying and participating in different international exchange programs, like those offered by Duoc UC.

• WEATHER Scarce rainfall and warm temperatures in the north; mild temperatures in the central area and cold and rainy weather in the south.

• TECHNOLOGY Chile has a highly developed technological network, with excellent broadband Internet and Wi Fi, plus an advanced mobile phone service.

• SAFETY Chile is known to be the safest country of the region. It has an excellent police force called “Carabineros de Chile”, which is responsible for keeping and ensuring the safety of its population and visitors.

• TOURISM Chile has many beautiful and charming places to visit: San Pedro de Atacama, Isla de Pascua, Patagonia, Torres del Paine, amongst others, are all increasingly demanded by international tourists. The alternatives are multiple and suitable for every budget: fishing lodges, high mountain huts, river and sea rafting, kayaking, trekking, mountaineering, windsurf, surf, climbing, skiing, etc. Chile also has 32 National Parks, 47 National Reserves and 15 Natural Monuments, which can be visited and enjoyed by everyone who appreciates nature.

• TRANSPORT Santiago has a well-organized transport system called ”Transantiago” (www.transantiago.cl) which includes buses and subway “Metro” (www. metro.cl). All major cities in Chile have their own public transport networks. • MEANS OF PAYMENT The official currency is the chilean peso (Ch$ or CLP). There are plenty ATM´s throughout the cities. Payment with credit cards is common and used in most commercial stores and services.

• HEALTH Chile has a large network of hospitals, emergency services and modern clinics in most of its cities with state of the art technology and infrastructure.

WHY DUOC UC? At Duoc UC, the design of its academic project responds to the needs of the industry and the society. QUALITY IS IMPORTANT: PROGRAMS AND INSTITUTIONAL ACCREDITATION In 2010, Duoc UC was accredited institutionaly, 7 years, maximum period awarded by the National Commission of Accreditation (CNA). Out of 180 higher education institutions in Chile, only 3 have been accredited for this period of time.

DUOC UC IS A PRIVATE NON PROFIT PROFESSIONAL INSTITUTE, FOUNDED IN 1968 BY THE PONTIFICIA UNIVERSIDAD CATÓLICA DE CHILE Four decades of experience positions Duoc UC as a leader in Technical and Professional Higher Education in Chile. With a practical emphasis, its academic model is based on the development of competences, which results in the model of learning by doing. Duoc UC has specially invested and improved its infrastructure for the above purpose. Each campus includes technological centers, laboratories and specialized tools in order to recreate the working environment. In addition, Duoc UC uses state of the art technology to ease the learning process, such as Blackboard, intranet, chat and e-learning programs. Duoc UC has 15 campuses: 12 are located in key areas of Santiago, 1 in Valparaíso, 1 in Viña del Mar and 1 in Concepción. Duoc UC ACADEMIC PROGRAMS Technical level : 2-year programs. INDUSTRY–FOCUSED DEGREES For Duoc UC, the labor value of its technical and professional graduates is measured by their productivity, and thus by their competences. That is why the development of the curriculum is based on information provided by the industry, with whom Duoc UC maintains a very close relationship and partnership. Duoc UC educational plans are modular and flexible, therefore they facilitate the inductive methodology and the emphasis in the practical aspects of the learning process. Our academic project seeks for excellence in quality, which involves providing our students with a social, labor and cultural value. WHAT DO WE DO?

The International Affairs Office is the area responsible for developing programs with institutions abroad, focused on students, graduates, faculty and staff. It also offers courses and programs in Chile for international students and faculty. The internationalization of Duoc UC seeks not only to improve the academic model and educational management, but also help our students to improve their academic profile and add value to their curriculum. This will allow them to perform in a highly competitive world where they will face the dilemma of working with people from different countries and cultures. PROGRAMS SHORT STUDY ABROAD COURSES FOR Duoc UC STUDENTS, ALUMNI AND FACULTY For almost 10 years, Duoc UC International Affairs Office has been developing tailor-made courses abroad for its students, alumni and faculty. Students from its 9 Schools are invited to participate in these 2 and 3 week courses at world-renowned institutions. EXCHANGE PROGRAM FOR STUDENTS Duoc UC holds more than 60 Agreements signed with different institutions worldwide. This allows our students to carry out different exchange programs at any of these institutions. In turn, Duoc UC invites foreign

students to come to Chile and perform this same experience. Duoc UC has become an attractive destination for students coming from Canada, Germany, Finland, Mexico and Colombia, who have studied at our Schools of Design, Tourism, Communication and Business Administration. Within this framework of cooperation, our students have traveled to different universities and institutes, such as Royal Roads University in Canada, Aalto University in Finland, Politecnico Di Milano in Italy, Instituto Tecnol贸gico de Monterrey in Mexico, amongst others. INTERNATIONAL INTERNSHIPS Duoc UC seeks internship opportunities abroad for its students in foreign institutions and companies. This experience will help them to have a broader view of the world. FACULTY EXCHANGE Duoc UC holds Collaboration Agreements with several institutions around the world. Through these agreements, Duoc UC麓s faculty is invited to visit and have an experience in overseas higher education institutions. At the same time, Duoc UC welcomes faculty from these international institutions.

DUOC UC INNOVATION AND ENTREPRENEURSHIP PROGRAM AND CENTRO INNOVA

Every student at Duoc UC, has to undertake the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Course, regardless of its study program. This transversal program is structured around two core courses “Entrepreneurship and Innovation” and “Innovation Projects”, hosting more than 20.000 students annually. A wide variety of new ideas with business potential are created within the Innovation and Entrepreneurship program. These are assessed by a specialized team and supported by Centro Innova, Duoc UC Innovation and Entrepreneurship Center. One of the most valuable tools that Centro Innova provides Duoc UC students is networking, and the International Affairs Office is part of this support network. WHAT IS THE CITT?

DUOC UC DESIGN FACTORY:

(CITT) is a venue that brings together organizations and students. This is a space created for the development and implementation of ideas in order to generate quality research and development, thus enriching both the student and the institutional project.

The first Design Factory in Chile and Latin America is a joint venture between Aalto University of Finlad and Duoc UC.

Our Goal The aim of this center is to bring together academia with industry representatives, looking at all those who make this environment a source of ideas by developing and achieving a rich ecosystem of knowledge and transfer between each of the participants of this community.

The main objective of this project is to improve the employability of Duoc UC graduates, considering that it will give a substantial implementation to their. Specific Objectives:   • Improving students indicators of employability. • Improving students and graduates indicators of satisfaction. • Increase enrollment in the institution, validating vocational training. • Develop experiences that lead to innovation projects. • Consolidate efforts in a cross Innovation Center for students of the institution. • Develop interdisciplinary working skills for teachers and students.
