THE SENTINELS


The sentinels Phu Do is a village in Hanoi, Vietnam, which is famous for its tradition of noodle making. However, the village is facing the problem of pollution from noodle production activity.

This bio-pollutant with nitrogen and phosphorus as its components has caused the eutrophication of water body, which is invisible inside the village but evident in the outside canal receiving waste water from the drainage.

In order to solve these problems, we first need to find the most polluted canal location through research and analysis, and then set up a sentry tower in these places to determine the height of these filter towers according to different pollution levels. The aim of the project is to deal with the issue by using an environmental and sustainable approach. Mycelium, the subterranean part of mushrooms, is brought in with its symbolism on the invisible pollution and, at the same time, as a organic solution to the pollution. Aquaponic system, with its vertical mechanism of circulating waste water, is also introduced due to its high efficiency on pollutant transformation and food production. In this project, mycelia and aquaponic system are working together based on the mutualistic symbiosis of mycelium itself and the root of plants.

THE URBAN SNAKE


CULTURE CENTER This is a renovation of an old building The function of the old building itself is the vegetable market, where people come and go to buy food every day. The building is in the inner city of Xi'an, close to the city wall. The entire area of the building is very old. In the central area of such a big city, the function of the building and the quality of the building are far behind the development of the modern. The building is too old, and the surrounding humanities are chaotic, and the market lacks management. The traffic lanes are too narrow, the market stalls are old, and the market streamlines are chaotic. But the old market buildings in the region also have its unique style of China's rapid urbanization in the 1970s: the faรงade, the main network, and the simple functional-first design principle, also to meet the huge construction needs of the time. After analysis, we feel that we retain the original building, transform it, and optimize the surrounding environment, transforming it into a combination of market and cultural center.

CONCEPT Retaining the structural form of the original building, introducing the "snake" linear form of the building into the building, connecting the entire building streamline, from the bottom layer to the top layer, making the original rigid building vision live, at the same time, the interior The communication between people and people becomes diverse, not at the same level, but for different levels of activity communication, making people's activities in the building dynamic and fluid. The serpentine building has different small components attached to it, providing a space for rest and viewing. In the series of serpentine structures, the “moving” and “quiet” connections make the building vibrant.

COMPONENTS The renovation of the project has little impact on the original building structure, and the two pillars and some secondary beams are removed, in order to use the space more flexibly. Then the serpentine structure is inserted into it. The position and shape of different serpentine structures correspond to different functions, but most of these functions are related to urban cultural cities, public activities, urban leisure, and the functions of the original market.

CONCEPT

CULTURAL CENTER

A cultural city in Chengdu is also a tourist city, but in this park, the old residential area interrupted the flow of the entire park, so we removed the residential area, established a cultural center, and secondly connected the entrances of the surrounding cities. The role of this cultural center is to connect such a link between the entire park and the city, while the cultural center remains part of the city park.

The project is located in Chengdu, China. The venue is located in a park in the center of the city. The project site used to be a dilapidated residential area. Now we transform it into a cultural center of the city to meet the urban public space and public activities in Chengdu. demand
