Automated Cleaning
over an underbelt tray to ensure that the belt is presented parallel to the cleaning head. In some applications where more moisture is required for the cleaning process, the unit can be used with hot water washing systems.
STEAMBRUSH, a Patented system for the automated cleaning of conveyor belts
In the majority of cases steam and agitation is quite sufficient but if required chemical dosing or an after-clean sanitiser can be introduced. Units are built in widths, starting from 300mm and increasing in 100mm increments to 2metres.
What is the Steambrush system? The Steambrush system consists of 4 parts. The cleaning head, underbelt tray, control panel and cleaning agent (usually steam). It can be utilised as a portable unit for downtime cleaning on different conveyor belts or permanently mounted as a CIP system on a single belt.
What are the advantages of Steambrush? Cleaning a conveyor belt manually is very labour intensive, in some cases often requiring the belts to be removed. The Steambrush system allows the belt to be cleaned in place. The belt is cleaned much more quickly and consistently, releasing it back to production with the minimum of delay. Low water usage, typically less than 20 litres / hour, saves on both water costs and effluent disposal. Vacuum extraction leaves the belt in a dry state. On a smooth belt, for example the belt is dry and ready for use immediately.

The combination of low water requirement and vacuum extraction makes the unit suitable for production facilities without built in drainage.
It also has facilities for emergency stop if, for example the belt becomes trapped due to a large or unusual piece of debris. This feature is important, not only for obvious Health and Safety reasons but also to ensure that contact time of the steam on certain types of belt is not over prolonged.
The unit is primarily designed to use “dry steam. This is delivered at low pressure (5-10 bar), usually by way of a portable steam generator with integral vacuum. Alternatively the Steambrush head can be connected to an in-house steam source if steam is used elsewhere in a production process. Usually a plant would use an in house supply if constant cleaning
The Conveyor Head The System combines brush agitation whilst at the same time introducing the cleaning agent through the core of the brush.

The Control panel is the interface between the Conveyor head and the steam source. It controls brush pressure and direction, vacuum extraction and also chemical dosing if required.
Cleaning Agent
Use of the unit allows benefits to be made by improved labour utilisation, as well as the advantage of mechanical action giving a consistent and uniform cleaning regime.

during production is required; otherwise a portable steam generator is the most efficient solution. In some cases, where moisture is required for cleaning, the use of hot water may be preferable to steam, in which case the Steambrush system easily accommodates this.
Belt types The Steambrush system can be used to clean Smooth (PV or metal band) belts or modular belting. Belts with small flights can also be cleaned but in these cases drying is not guaranteed.
Portable System or Fixed Unit? Recognising that there are many different types of conveyor belts and installations, the Steambrush system is designed to offer flexibility centred round its fundamental operating principle. In portable mode the unit is transferred from belt to belt and cleaning is carried out in downtime. Time savings over traditional manual cleaning can often be considerable, releasing staff for other duties. Where establishments require a unit for a specific belt, wish to clean in production or have a belt where access for cleaning is difficult, such as at a high level, then a fixed unit is offered. There are two options available for a fixed unit. For cleaning during production or where the product is of a

significant size then the cleaning head can be mounted underneath the belt. The belt is cleaned on its reverse travel before being re - loaded with product. With underbelt mounting, cleaning can take place during production.
Brush cores
A fixed system can be mounted over the belt for easy lowering for cleaning between production runs. This is ideal for cleaning between product changeovers. In its raised position the head gives a clearance over the belt of 100mm, sufficient for most products to pass underneath. With this model a second tray is provided to seal off the brush mechanism from the belt when not being used in order to ensure that no residue or debris is allowed to fall on to the belt surface when loaded with product.
L-R Yellow - Soft, Blue- Standard, Black- Stiff, Stainless Bristle
A range of brush cores are available, ranging from soft bristle for modular belting through increasing stiffness grades and culminating in stainless bristles for wire mesh belting.
