IN CHARGE:

PAUL ABRAHAMS AFTER A LONG, GRUELLING TWO WEEKS SINCE WE WERE LAST AT PARK DRIVE, WITH SEVEN POINTS GAINED FROM THREE PROMOTION-CHASING TEAMS, IT’S A WELCOME RELIEF TO BE BACK IN FRONT OF THE HOME FAITHFUL FOR YET ANOTHER PIVOTAL GAME.

Today’s opposition will arrive full of confidence after taking all three points in a 1-0 win earlier in the year. A big warm welcome to Angelo, Rick, all their staff, committee and fans. It’s been a fantastic season so far for Sudbury and the new management team, with the highlight being their FA Cup run and televised game against Colchester United. A great advert for the Isthmian North and some achievement from a Step 8 club. Last time at Park Drive we saw one of the best performances by the team and a moment of absolute brilliance from the returning Bryan Ifeanyi. It was a game we controlled for long periods yet somehow found ourselves 2-1 down with a quarter of an hour to play. Up stepped the big man Sham with a decisive header to level the tie, after putting us in front with a sublime turn and finish in the first half. Then, in the dying minutes Bryan, fresh off the bench, chopped onto his left foot and hit a bullet into the top corner to win us the game and keep us on track. Fast-forward three days and it was the first of two Suffolk trips in the space of a week. First up, play-off chasing Felixstowe & Walton who have had a strong season, and although they started much the brighter, the in-form Sham blitzed a five-minute hat-trick (the quickest ever seen in a Jammers shirt) to firmly place the game in our control. It was a fantastic three points to keep us on track again. It was back to Essex four days later and a difficult tie at title-chasing Canvey Island. The game couldn’t have started any worse, conceding after just 12 seconds. After dusting

04

ourselves down we got a grip of the game and without fail, Sham gets us back in the game, before a brilliant build-up goal to give us the lead. An impeccable pass from Malachi found the overlapping Lordon to score a rare, but priceless, goal. It was only eclipsed by something magical just moments later, with a calculated beauty from Clarky from within his own half. It was a special football moment and those who were there on the day were lucky to witness it. Flames striker Sham killed the game late on from the counter to gain another huge three points. In midweek, we headed back to Suffolk for what was a tough 95 minutes against a very impressive football team. After early promise, we were unable to capitalise on several positive opportunities before Stow came into the game and asked a lot of questions of us as a group. The tough week caught up with a few tired legs and a mistake saw us fall behind, but yet again, the resilience and belief in the team to get ourselves back into the game (yep, via that man again!) and then to nearly win it with a great chance near the end was hugely encouraging for the games still to come. Looking at today’s game, and there’s another crucial three points on offer to keep us in contention with the front-runners. Are you not entertained, Jammers?! Get behind the boys and with four cup finals to go, let’s finish as strong as possible together and see where it takes us. COYJs! Paul

CANVEY ISLAND MALDON & TIPTREE

1 4

SATURDAY 2ND APRIL | THE PITCHING IN ISTHMIAN LEAGUE NORTH | ATT: 480 After falling behind inside the opening seconds of the game, Paul Abrahams’ side produced a magnificent comeback to secure a much-needed three points at title-chasing Canvey Island last weekend. Having already beaten Canvey once this season, this encounter got off to the worst possible start inside the opening twenty seconds. A long ball immediately from kick-off caught the Jammers’ defence off guard, and Evans KOUASSI was on hand to outmuscle his markers before striking home for what must have been the quickest goal of the entire season. On a dry and bobbly surface, the Jammers were still keen to get the ball down on the floor and just seven minutes after going behind, Maldon found their equaliser. A long pass forward was battled for and won well by the in-form Shomari Barnwell. After entering the box, Barnwell found team mate Malachi Napa, but his shot was saved by Bobby Mason who could only divert the ball in to BARNWELL’S path and the commanding striker made no mistake. He fired home his seventh goal in just four games to level the game. After an end-to-end thirty minutes, the Jammers punished the home side once more. A ball forward from Napa found Lordon Akolbire

06

high up-field. The Canvey defenders hesitated, along with Mason in the home goal, but AKOLBIRE didn’t and squeezed between the defenders to toe poke the ball into the bottom corner of the net. Two minutes later, Park Lane was stunned into a round of applause from both sides. As Shad Ngandu knocked the ball down to Rob Clark inside his own half, the midfielder appeared to only have one thing on his mind. Remaining inside his own half of the field, Clark noticed Mason off his line, he looked up once, took one touch and attempted an audacious, Beckham-like chip from his own half. With Mason scrambling left back to his goal line, he was left stranded as CLARK’S effort was pin-point perfection and settled into the net for a Goal of the Season contender, also giving the Jammers a 3-1 lead. On the stroke of half-time, Tommy Dixon-Hodge made a superb save to maintain his side’s twogoal lead. After a dreadful start, the Jammers had turned the game around after less than forty minutes. Desperate to find a way back into the game to keep their title hopes alive, the hosts continued to soak up the pressure whilst looking resolute in defence. Abrahams rang the changes at regular intervals, with Scott Kemp replacing Ade Cole before later Aaron Williams-Bushell replaced Ngandu who had been cautioned. Shortly after coming on, Kemp thought he had won his side a penalty after being clattered in the box, but the referee waved play on. As the game was drifting towards a quieter ending, it suddenly sprung back into life. DixonHodge was called upon once more and he assisted superbly as always, making an outstretched save to keep his side in a comfortable lead. Sam Coombes replaced Napa with less than five minutes remaining. In the 90th minute, the icing to the cake was applied. With Canvey heads dropping, Maldon made them pay. Coombes found space on the left-wing, having only been on the pitch for a matter of moments. With Barnwell demanding the ball out wide, Coombes provided the goods, and BARNWELL cut into the box on his right foot and sent a curling effort into the bottom corner for his second goal of the afternoon and his side’s fourth.

Adam has provided an insight into how his decision to sponsor the football club has helped his business to grow, explaining: “Since our partnership with the Jammers began over 18 months ago, we generated the same turnover within the CM9 post code as we did in the previous seven years, which was a big boost to our business. “Not only have we sponsored the football club, but we have also increased our advertising in the local area. The partnership between my business and the football club has benefited us greatly and I look forward to continuing to support the Jammers in the future. “As well as advertising my business, supporting the football club via sponsorship enables me to come to Park Drive with my family and to watch the team, which is fantastic,” he continued. “This is a great club and I would encourage any business considering

STOWMARKET TOWN MALDON & TIPTREE

1 1

TUESDAY 5TH APRIL | THE PITCHING IN ISTHMIAN LEAGUE NORTH | ATT: 319 Maldon & Tiptree kept themselves in the play-off race in midweek, picking up a creditable point on the road at third-placed Stowmarket Town. Against a Stowmarket side who have only lost one home game all season, but have drawn their last few, the Jammers started the first ten minutes on the front foot and looking in a positive mood. Despite Maldon dominating earlier proceedings, though, it was the hosts who had the first real chance of the evening and were perhaps unfortunate not to go ahead. Josh Mayhew found space in the penalty area, before his powerful effort rebounded off the crossbar and had appeared to cross the goal line, but the assistant referee was not convinced and kept his flag by his side to the relief of Paul Abrahams’ defenders. Stowmarket were dominant in possession without really testing Tommy Dixon-Hodge in the away goal, as he and his defenders remained resolute against a number of setpieces that were delivered into dangerous areas. Up the other end, the Jammers had half-chances of their own but Olumide Oluwatimilehin and Shad Ngandu were both guilty of sending their efforts wide of the goal.

10

MALDON & TIPTREE vs AFC SUDBURY

On the stroke of half-time, Dixon-Hodge was called into action for his first real save of the evening and what a save it was. The young Jammers’ shot-stopper dived full-length to his right and parried away a free-kick which looked destined for the back of the net from around thirty yards. Having been perhaps slightly fortunate to be level at the break, the Jammers would have wanted to start the second half on the front foot and take control of the game. However, it was anything but that unfortunately. A mix-up between Ngandu and Lordon Akolbire conceded the ball to Wille CLEMONS in a dangerous position, and the Stowmarket winger made no mistake to punish the Jammers, driving into the penalty area before drilling his effort into the bottom corner, beyond DixonHodge. The Jammers now had it all to do. Looking to find a way back into the game, Abrahams made a double switch. Introducing Bryan Ifeanyi and Ade Cole in place of Oluwatimilehin and Malachi Napa. The change almost had an immediate impact, but Akolbire’s flying effort went just wide of the far post. Still searching for an equaliser and with just over a quarter-of-an-hour remaining, Abrahams made his final change, bringing on Bradley McClenaghan in place of Scott Kemp. The hosts continued to push for a second, though, and Dixon-Hodge had to be on hand to make an incredible close-range save to somehow deny Mayhew who thought he had confirmed all three points for his team. Having been the savour at one end, Dixon-Hodge turned into a much-needed provider as the Jammers found their equaliser. His pass from back to front was flicked into the path of the red-hot Shomari BARNWELL which proved to be a crucial mistake. With the goalkeeper rushing towards the Jammers’ front man, he kept his composure and produced an audacious lob which took one bounce before nestling into the roof of the net. The game was all-square and set for a grandstand finish with less than ten minutes to go. With both sides searching for a much-needed winner, players on either side were guilty of missing chances to take the lead. Ifeanyi broke free into the penalty area and had the perfect opportunity to pass to McClenaghan for what would’ve been a tap-in, however he decided to go alone as his shot was then blocked by a desperate defender. Moments after, Cole’s effort sailed wide from the edge of the box. Probably the best chance of the lot landed at the foot of a Stowmarket player, but his volley from inside the six-yard area sailed over the bar and into orbit, to the delight of the travelling Jammers fans who had travelled in good numbers. A point for the hosts was a dent in their title challenge, whilst a point for the Jammers keeps them in the hunt for the playoff places with just four games of the season remaining.

The FA Vase Final was reached, again it was lost 2-0 against Winchester City. Improvements were made to King’s Marsh with it becoming fully enclosed, new turnstiles and a fully automated sprinkler system installed.

In 2004/05 the club were again successful, they won their fifth consecutive Ridgeons Premier League title (a record for the Eastern Counties League), and for third year in succession reached the final of the FA Vase another record, unfortunately they again lost 3-2 to Didcot Town. The semifinal of both the Suffolk Premier Cup and the Ridgeons League Cup were also reached.

League and placed in the Southern League Midland Division for season 2008/09. In the FA Trophy they reached the First Round, and finished the season in twelfth position. The Reserves continued in the Ridgeons Reserve League, and a mid-table finish ensued but they did win the Chell Trophy.

In the Ryman League North they finished in eighth place. The Reserves had a disappointing season the Ridgeons Reserve League while the A Team started completed their second season.

The Reserve side played in the Ridgeons Reserve League Southern Division and won that. In the playoff between the North and South winners, they were runners up but won the Suffolk Junior Cup.

The 2009/10 season saw Smith and Chris Tracey still in charge, and still in the Southern League. AFC lost in the First Qualifying Round of both the FA Cup and FA Trophy. In the Southern League Cup it was a Second Round exit and it was the same round in the Suffolk Premier Cup. AFC finished the season in 14th position in the league. The club’s Reserve team played in the Ridgeons Reserve League and had an average season.

Season 2006/07 saw the club accept promotion to Step 4, and the new Ryman League Division One North. The club changed managers with Mark Morsley taking over. The play-off finals were reached where they lost in a penalty shoot out.

During the season the King’s Marsh new facilities were finished in May 2010 and were back in the Ryman Division One North. Jamie Redknapp performed the official opening of the new clubhouse in June 2010 and the ground was renamed The MEL Group Stadium.

The 2007/08 season was a nearly season. The club was still managed by Morsley aided by assistant Nicky Smith and coach Paul Skingley. The club got to the final of the Ryman League Cup but lost on penalties. They again reached the play-off finals but lost in the semi-finals. The club’s Reserve side led by Ian Manby finished runners up in the Ridgeons Reserve League South.

Smith and Tracey remained in charge of the first team for 2010/11 and Ian Manby the second team, with a new A Team started and played in the Colchester and North Essex League under Phil Root. The first team ended in seventh place. In the FA Trophy they lost in the First Round Proper.

The 2014/15 season saw Batch and Eastaugh start it but leave in December. A new management team of Jamie Godbold and Andy Reynolds took over and led the club to third place and to the play-offs but were unsuccessful in them.

In May 2008 Morsley resigned and Nicky Smith was appointed manager with Chris Tracey as his assistant. A few days later the club were moved from the Ryman

The Reserve side finished third in the league and lost in the final of the Suffolk Senior Reserve Cup. The A Team completed their first season satisfactorily.

The Res/U21’s led by Danny Laws and Dave Cannon finished in fourteenth place and won the Thurlow Nunn First Division Knockout Cup.

In 2005/06 the club continued in the Ridgeons Premier League and finished third, the Ridgeons League Cup was won for the first time and the fifth round of the FA Vase reached.

The start of season 2012/13 saw Chris Tracey in charge with Barry Lakin at his side, he departed in September and Ian Brown joined as his assistant. Tracey resigned in March 2013 and Michael Shinn and Ian Brown took charge until the end of the season. The Reserves continued in the Thurlow Nunn League under Ian Manby and Dave Walton and the A Team continued under the guidance of Phil Root. In May 2013 the club appointed David Batch along with Head Coach Steve Eastaugh as their new management team for 2013/14 and they quickly set about building not only a fresh squad but also the entire structure of the football club. The Reserve/Under 21 side was elected into the Thurlow Nunn First Division under the initial guidance of Head Coach Dave Walton and the A Team continued under John Baldwin. The season was one of improvement for the first team but the other sides lesser so.

The newly formed U18’s side led by Craig Power performed well and ended third in the table. The ground was renamed The Wardale Williams Stadium. For 2015/16 Godbold and Reynolds continued in post with Danny Laws and Dave Cannon in charge of the Res/Academy. The club installed a 3G pitch and started the AFC Academy. The season was an undoubted success with AFC never being out of the top six in Ryman North and they won the Championship on 9th April 2016 ensuring promotion to the Ryman Premier Division. The Reserves finished mid-table while the Academy won their League. 2016/17 saw the club in the Ryman Premier League for the first time still with Godbold and Reynolds at the helm. It was a disappointing season as the club were relegated for the first time in their history.

The Reserves/Academy continued under Laws and Cannon with teams in the Ryman Development League, The Essex Senior Reserve League as well as the Thurlow Nunn Youth League and the National Youth Alliance League. The Under 18’s won their Division in the Thurlow Nunn Youth League and then the entire Youth League Championship. They won the Suffolk FA Midweek Under 18 Cup and also the Thurlow Nunn Youth League Cup. On 13th May 2017 Godbold and Reynolds were announced as the first team management duo for the 2017/18 season and Danny Potter appointed as goalkeeping coach. The Academy/Reserves continued under the same leadership with another reserve On 12th September 2017 Godbold and Reynolds were relieved of their duties with Danny Laws taking over as Caretaker Manager.

On 2nd October 2017 former manager Mark Morsley was reappointed on a three and half year contract, he brought in former player Lee Norfolk as his assistant while Paul Skingley returned as head coach. The club blooded many young Academy players and finished the season in twelfth place. The Reserves in the Thurlow Nunn side ended mid-table while the other side were lower down their league. 2018-19 League position: 8th Season 21/22 after the two previous seasons had been declared null and void due to the Covid pandemic, saw Mark Morsley leave his role during the pre season along with a raft of other coaching staff and players and in his place came the management duo of Rick Andrews and Angelo Harrop.

SATURDAY 8TH JANUARY | THE PITCHING IN ISTHMIAN LEAGUE NORTH | ATT: 222

AFC Sudbury dealt the first defeat of the new year to Maldon & Tiptree in early January at the MEL Group Stadium. With Wayne Brown returning to the touchline after his illness, neither side would really test the opposing goalkeepers in the opening half. The hosts had the majority of possession, though, and did hit the woodwork on one occasion. After a difficult first 45, the Jammers made two changes at the break, with Scott Kemp and Phil Brown-Bampoe replacing Bryan Ifeanyi and Aaron Williams-Bushell. The substitutions resulted in a change of formation and the tactical alterations almost had an immediate impact. Maldon created a succession of chances, with Frankie Terry, Shomari Barnwell and Shad Ngandu all having

chances which were either blocked or sent wide. The best chance fell to the in-form Barnwell after Ngandu’s corner hadn’t been dealt with by the home goalkeeper. With the ball falling to the imposing striker’s feet, Barnwell was unable to convert the chance from inside the six-yard box. It would prove to be the Jammers’ best opportunity to take something from the game and, with a quarter-ofan-hour to play, Sudbury capitalised on a sloppy pass to bag the only goal of the game. Jake CLOWSLEY latched onto the loose ball, driving towards goal and drilling an effort into the bottom corner from just outside the area. Tommy Dixon-Hodge needed to be on hand in the Jammers’ goal to keep the deficit to one as Maldon pushed for an equaliser, but the Sudbury defence stood strong to earn a first win in five.

When I think back to those slightly strange March 2020 days where we knew Covid was about to have a large impact on our every day lives, let alone Non-League football, for some reason The NLP’s National Game Awards stick in the mind. We were all set to launch the build-up for the 2019-20 season but, in that ever-changing world, decided at the last minute to press the pause button. Let’s see what happens, we thought, and hopefully it won’t be long before we can kick it off. It soon became apparent we wouldn’t be holding the annual event! Eventually we did a virtual awards, while last season we decided not to at all. Although Step 1 completed a season - mostly behind closed doors - of course the majority of Non-League hadn’t played much past October. But, after two disrupted seasons, the finish line is in sight for all. Titles are being won, promotions being decided, and we’re delighted to launch our NGAs again. And we need you! The awards are what they are because of the loyal support of our readers across the country. So, please, let us know who you think deserves to be honoured in our categories. Although date and venue are

IT’S APPROACHING THE END-OF-SE ASON AWARDS TIME yet to be confirmed (keep you eyes peeled shortly), we can announce that Buildbase are once again our title sponsor this year, adding The NGAs to their current sponsorship of the FA Vase and FA Trophy. We’re hugely grateful for their support and we’re working closely with Buildbase for our much-loved Unsung Hero Award. Pitching In, title sponsors of the Northern Premier, Southern and Isthmian Leagues, are backing our Step 3-4 Player of the Year, while Our Game Football will honour our Player of the Year. Huck Nets have once again put their name to the Goal of the Season accolade, while Reusch are also back — they couldn’t miss the chance to crown the season’s Goalkeeper of the Year. S&C Slatter return as well and they will once again present the Manager of the Year award while The Acerbis Cup Run of the year is always a hotly contested award.

Our friends at Sportsbeat sign up once again – they didn’t need asking twice to support the Young Player of the Year. We love the William Hill Fan of the Year category and again we need your help with this one, while the SK Kits Team of the Year award honours one side for their herculean efforts this season. The FA are supporting the Community Club of the Year, while The NLP Lifetime Achievement award is one of our personal favourites. Football Supporters’ Association Away Day Experience of the year recognises the efforts clubs make to cater for travelling fans. Keep an eye on The NLP over the coming weeks as we bring you award-by-award guides as well as all the information you need to ensure the decanters end up in the right hands! Matt Badcock

CLUB HISTORY

In 2009, Ed Garty took over the ownership of Maldon Town from Michael Kirkham, whilst still in charge of running Tiptree United and installed Alan Brockhouse as Maldon Town’s new chairman. Following the takeover, Colin Wallington returned for a second spell in charge of Maldon Town, leaving his post as Tiptree United manager immediately. Colin previously managed Maldon Town from 2003 until 2007, having achieved promotion in the 200506 via the play-off final. Having left Maldon in 2007, Colin went on to manage Tiptree United where he achieved promotion winning the

Eastern Counties Division One title in the 2007/08 season. Until the conclusion of the 2009/10 season both Maldon Town & Tiptree United played their home games at Park Drive, under a ground share arrangement. In the summer of 2010, Maldon Town & Tiptree United amalgamated to form, Maldon & Tiptree Football Club, under the ownership of Ed Garty. As a result of the amalgamation, Tiptree United withdrew from the Essex Senior League, resulting in the club’s last ever fixture being a 3-1 defeat against Enfield 1893 on 24 April 2010. Maldon & Tiptree took

the place of Maldon Town in the Isthmian Division One North. Following the retirement of Colin Wallington, Assistant Manager, Brad King and Glen Knight were appointed as the clubs JointManager. As the pair’s first managerial role, the new club witnessed wholesale changes with only a handful of players remaining who finished the season with Maldon Town and Tiptree United, respectively. The 2010-11 campaign saw the new club remain in or around the play-off positions for the majority of the season, finishing in eighth

place to finish the season with sixty-three points. Despite the high turnover of players, the good standard of football was maintained and it was in the end, a disappointing end to the season, for the club to fall away in the later stages of the season when suspensions and injuries eventually took their toll to leave the club frustratingly short of the play-off positions at the end of April. The 2011-12 season, proved to not be so successful and in November 2011, King and Knight were relieved of their duties with immediate effect. Ex-Charlton professional Mike Flanagan was appointed as Caretaker Manager and remained in place until the end of the season, steering the club to a respectful mid-table finish, managing thirty-three games and finishing with a win percentage of 49.12%. At the start of the 2012-13 campaign, Ex-Stansted & Redbridge boss Terry Spillane was appointed as Manager, and Mike Flanagan departed the club. The change of management, once again brought wholesale changes with the playing squad. Ex Tiptree United manager, Jody was brought to the club as Terry’s Assistant Manager. After a fantastic and unbeaten start to the season, the club found themselves at the top of the table but an incredible run by eventual Champions Grays Athletic meant Maldon had to settle for a place in the play-offs – Terry’s side remained unbeaten until Boxing Day, when they lost away from home against local rivals Heybridge Swifts. Disappointment came in the play-off final however when they lost a two goal lead to draw with Thamesmead Town, who thenwent on to win the final,on penalties.

After a disappointing end to the previous season, Terry Spillane oversaw more wholesale changes in the playing squad, including the departure of Assistant Manager, Jody Brown. Despite the changes, Maldon finished in ninth position with seventy-six points, winning twenty-one games. More changes to the playing staff, resulted in poor start to the 2014-15 season, and the club parted ways with Spillane in September 2014, with Chairman, Ed Garty takeover as Caretaker Manager, for three games. At the end of September 2014, Alan Kimble was appointed as manager and remained in charge for the remainder of the season, however the side struggled and more changes in the playing staff occurred. Maldon finished the season in nineteenth place with only forty-nine points. During the 2014-15 season, Media Officer at the time, Richard Buckby ran a competition for supporters to vote for a club nickname, with the options The River Boys, The Marshmen, The Mudmen and The Jammers available. The vote took place in January 2015 and was featured on National Radio station, TalkSport, with the The Jammers winning the vote with over 50% and being confirmed as the clubs new nickname. Following the completion of the 2014-15 season, the club linked with Colchester United and the two clubs formed close ties, which resulted in ex Ipswich Town midfielder, David Wright being appointed as First Team Manager. Wright remained in charge until December 2015 as he was appointed Assistant Manager of Colchester United. Liam Bailey took charge of the First Team on

a temporary basis, only managing one game, which finished four-all against Tilbury on Boxing Day in 2015. Moving into 2016, exLeiston Manager, Steve Ball was appointed First Team Manager and steered the club to a respectable finish in the league table climbing to seventh place, only missing out on the play-off places by nine points. In the closed season, a change of Management at Colchester United saw Steve Ball appointed as their Assistant Manager, leaving his position of Maldon & Tiptree Manager as a result. Ex-Manchester City midfielder, Kevin Horlock was then appointed as First Team manager ahead of the 2016-17 campaign and for the majority of the season, the Jammers sat at the top of the table before slipping away to finish in second place. Horlock’s side managed to reach the play-off final, however lost to Thurrock one-nil. The following campaign was not quite as successful for Horlock, with Maldon finishing just outside the play-off places in seventh place, with sixty-nine points. After managing 112 games, Kevin Horlock departed in the closed season and was replaced by ex-Colchester defender, Wayne Brown. In Brown’s first season in charge, the 2018-19 season, the Jammers finished in second place and reached the play-off final, but lost on penalties against local rivals, Heybridge Swifts. The 2019-20 season was one to remember for the club, but for the right and wrong reasons. The club achieved great things in the Emirates FA Cup. Having reached the First Round proper of the competition, Maldon beat League Two side, Leyton Orient away from home, taking over 600

fans to the home of The O’s, with the goals coming from Danny Parish and a superb solo goal from Jorome Slew. In the second round proper, Maldon were drawn against Football League side, Newport County with the game being shown live on National Television– with the Jammers only beaten by the League Two side, with a goal in stoppage time, with the game finishing 1-0. A record attendance of 1876 was recorded. However, the 2019-20 season will also be remembered for the wrong reasons. After impressive performances on the field, the Jammers found themselves top of the Isthmian Division One North, thirteen points clear with four games in hand, when disaster struck. With a global pandemic declared, as a result of Coronavirus, the league competition was formally abandoned on 26 March 2020, with all results from the season being expunged, and no promotion or relegation taking place to, from, or within the division. The club were denied a chance of promotion and forced to remain in the Division One North for the 2020-21 season.

ED GARTY STEPPED DOWN AS CHAIRMAN IN OCTOBER 2020 Following the disappointing end to the 2019-20 season, Wayne Brown remained in charge of the club and wholesale changes in the playing squad occurred again, with a number of the previous season’s squad securing transfers to clubs higher up the football pyramid. The Jammers were dealt a big blow in October 2020 when owner and Chairman Ed Garty stood down from his position with immediate effect, ending a challenging ten years at the helm. After a period of uncertainty for

the football club, General Manager Ron Dangerfield was confirmed as the new Chairman, with Richard Cowling taking ownership of the football club. Just like the 2019-20 season, the 2020-21 campaign was terminated with promotion and relegation denied for all the sides competing in the Division One North. However, prior to the curtailment the Jammers had reached the Emirates FA Cup First Round for the second successive season, this time losing to Morecambe 1-0 in front of the television cameras. Brown’s side also achieved their longest ever run in the Buildbase FA Trophy, eventually losing to Gloucester City. The Jammers were only able to play in five league games, finishing in third place before the season was curtailed. Heading in to the 2021/22 season, Wayne Brown remains in charge of the first team and is now the club’s longest-serving manager, holding the record for the most games managed in charge of Maldon & Tiptree Football Club.
