KwaZulu-Natal Sustainable Energy Forum (KSEF) and the eThekwini Energy Office are hosting a Rooftop Solar PV workshop for businesses. The workshop will cover the relevant areas in this topic through the following presentations: 1.

‘Technical Requirements for Solar PV roof top installations’ – Herman Bos, Solaray. This will help businesses to determine if a roof top solar PV installation is technically feasible at their premises. Issues include, amount of roof space required, structural considerations and orientation of property. ‘Financial Incentives from Eskom for Renewable Energy’ – Carlos Van Der Westhuizen, Eskom. An overview of existing incentives and subsidies for Solar PV and other RE installations offered by Eskom. ‘Long Term Opportunities and institutional considerations’ – Derek Morgan, eThekwini Energy Office. In the longer term there may be opportunities in Durban for property owners with large roof areas to rent their roof space for Solar PV installations. The eThekwini Municipality is creating database of interested property owners in preparation for these offers. More ‘Embedded Gneration process of eThekwini Municipality’ – TBC speaker, Durban Electricity Unit. The Municipality currently has a system for formally accepting applications from small energy producers who feed energy back onto the grid which is important information for property owners who wish to install their own solar PV systems. ‘Brief Outline of KZN Solar PV Rooftop Database project’ – Liesel Beires, KZN Department of Economic Development and Tourism. A brief overview of the KZN Solar PV Rooftop Database project which will be run by KZNDEDT and will seek to create a database of suitable roofs for PV installations throughout the province.

Solar PV Suppliers will be on hand at the workshop for more detailed discussions regarding potential installations. Any Solar PV Suppliers who would like to profile their company and/or display their products at these stands should submit an online application form here. The workshop aims to: 1. Highlight the opportunities for electricity generation from small scale renewable energy technologies 2. Outline technical information about installation requirements, etc 3. Explain how the Eskom Small Scale programme for embedded generation works through the Standard Offer Programme 4. Connect property professionals with Solar PV suppliers
