Clarke is just the third head coach in Durham College women’s volleyball history after Stan Marchut led the program for all of it’s first 24 seasons, and Shane Christopher, who was at the helm for the six years. In his first season as bench boss, the Lords had a 15-3 regular season record. He then led the team to the OCAA championship where they won silver.

After spending seven seasons as head coach at Loyalist College, Tony took on the men’s lead role at Trent University. Known as an outstanding recruiter and student of the game, Clarke’s dedication to his athletes and the school where he has coached has been second to none. He took a women’s program at Loyalist, that had won just four times the previous year (2005-06), back to the OCAA playoffs with an 11-3 conference record just a year later. In 2008-09, he was named OCAA East Region Coach of the Year after leading the Lancers to a 17-3 record and a final four finish at the provincial championship. His career record at Loyalist was an impressive 90-37, as the Lancers recorded over 300 set victories under his leadership. His student-athletes also recorded success off the court as six were named CCAA Academic All-Canadians and his teams averaged six OCAA all-academic award winners per season. Prior to coaching, Clarke, a Clarington resident, was a member of the Loyalist College Lancers as a student-athlete from 1994-1996, where the Lancers captured an OCAA gold medal in 1995.
STATE OF THE ART FACILITIES
The Campus Recreation and Wellness Centre (CRWC), which opened in 2007, is the crown jewel of athletics, health and fitness at Durham College and UOIT. The centrepiece of the state-of-the-art $17 million facility is the new 28,500 sq. ft. gymnasium. The new gymnasium is fully equipped with a top of the line shock resistant maple hardwood floor, seating for 2,000 spectators and a curtain system to create three separate gyms. The large gym is also host to an elevated, 200 metre, three-lane running track. Also part of the CRWC is an additional 13,500 sq. ft. gym. The secondary gymnasium features a curtain system to create two separate courts, two scoreboards, a media gondola and bleacher seating for 1,000 spectators. The CRWC also contains ten large team rooms with showers, perfect for tournament and special event use. These rooms are used to host annual tournaments such as the David Stewart Tip-Off Tournament, the Adidas Cup and the Big 8 Classic.

The FLEX Fitness Centre is one of the great new additions of the CRWC. It is 10,000-sq. ft., full of the best stat-of-the-art cardio and weight machines. The centre also includes two aerobic/dance studios, two training rooms used for sports training and fitness related classes. Also available to the athletes is a brand new physiotherapy room, massage therapy, acupuncture and chiropractic services in the Campus Health Centre. Having these services all under one roof will allow for quicker care, which in turn will result in quicker recovery and a return to game action.
