Redesign Buddy - hands free dog leash connector Position for Internship - Industrial/Consumer product designer Located in Snoqualmie, WA, Dutch Dog Design is a leading designer and marketer of dog products in the area of outdoors and lifestyle products. DoggyRide dog bike trailers and strollers and DoggySnooze trend setting dog furniture are the main brands. The products sold through retailers in Western Europe and North America. Dutch Dog Design has opened an internship position for an industrial product design student or graduate. The scope of the project is to redesign the Buddy hands free leash connector to a more ergonomic and modern design product with a few more additional features and optional accessories. The optional accessories will aid the functions of jogging and cycling. The project includes an entire concept-to-production cycle that needs to be completed within 3 months. The product is simple and the functions are clear, but the focus is on ergonomics, functionality, stylish design, packaging and cost control. It also includes force calculation, use of the right materials, production mold design and stress testing. We prefer students whose focus is modern design and ergonomics with less focus on engineering. The project can be started anywhere between September 2012 and January 2013. We estimate a schedule of maximum 20 hours/week (or less hours if less hours are allowed by the student’s internship program). Hours are flexible to fit within the student’s schedule, but need to be completed during standard working hours, Monday-Friday, 8:30am-5pm. The student will receive a stipend of up to $750/month. The final amount of the monthly stipend will be based off of the total amount of hours worked. As the student will be working with SolidWorks, it is advised that the student have access to and bring their own personal computer, with the student version of SolidWorks installed, in order to be able to work on this project, on site. Passion for dogs, biking and the outdoors is not a requirement but is surely a bonus. The Buddy by DoggyRide is a hands free leash connector that consists of a carabiner,
