The feeling of coming home

So how do you do it? Coming home. Bra off, sweatpants on, feet up? Watching your favourite series with a plate on your lap? We prefer to do it all.

A pleasant interior gives you the space to be your true self at home. A soft armchair to crawl into your own bubble with a good book or new music. A cupboard with doors to hide your clutter or an open cupboard for the collection that deserves to be seen. An extra-long dining table for dinners with friends and craft parties with your kids. Or a round table for the unexpected guests, because you can easily add a chair to it.

In the jungle of interior design trends and furnishing styles, this is actually the basis. Your character traits and living needs translated into furniture.

If you keep this in mind, you can turn the page and let Dutch Interior’s SS22 collection excite, inspire and delight you. There are so many gems to be found. Especially designed for you, to add to your interior and make it part of the memories that are yet to come.

NEW BASIC

If you’re all about being your perfectly true self at home, then this interior design style provides the perfect stage for that. Put on your pyjamas and relax on the sofa with your favourite magazine.

Comfortable, romantic and rustic are three important elements in this ambience. This is expressed in particular by tranquillity, natural materials, organic shapes and cuddly fabrics. Of course, in a style like this, some mood-enhancers such as coloured glass and beautiful candlesticks cannot be forgotten.

ROMANTIC

Without the need to lay down the rose petals and light the candles, this ambience breathes romance. Romance in a modest an down-to-earth way. The velvet fabrics, the cushions and other accessories create a subdued romantic atmosphere, without having it seem like every day is Valentine’s Day. And when you think of romance, you might be thinking of the glass candlesticks in this atmosphere, but don’t underestimate what a beautiful wooden accessory like the one in the cupboard can do for a bit of romance.

COMFORTABLE

There is no romance in an uncomfortable setting. Comfort is therefore an element that cannot be left out of this style. You will thus find it back in the broadest sense of the word. Not to be missed and also not entirely unimportant is comfortable seating, in this case the sofa Amarillo by Sevn executed in a soft Lennon fabric.

Besides tangible comfort, this set is also about comfort for the eye. No flashy colours but a subdued palette of natural and pastel shades. A wonderfully soft and caressing picture for the eye.

COUNTRY

Rustic in 2022 stands for natural materials, large elements and modest luxury. We have left the frivolous furniture behind in this respect, whereby today’s furniture may well have a sleek edge. In this look, the cabinet in particular is a good example of what country living can look like in 2022. Big, wood, with a sleek finish. A cupboard that easily blends into many interiors. And is extremely practical too! The open shelves provide the space to display your most beautiful accessories and the handleless doors give you all the space you need to store your practical, slightly less attractive items behind them.

@HOMEFREAK

Who? Kimberley Kuiper - Nelis. Lives together with her husband Jim and two children Jake and Jackie. What? Besides being an online marketeer, she has a great passion for interior and styling and shares this on her instagram account @homefreak and blog homefreak.nl. Where? A semi-detached house in Drunen. Hot?

A house with a lot of potential, so the necessary renovations have already been carried out to turn it into their dream home. Not? She chose to move her current household effects into this semi-detached house in 2020. A smart move.

By living in the house, you really experience what kind of furniture you need in a house. So there is still some furniture that clearly doesn’t fit any more. Interior style? A combination of tough with a classic edge. Black, white and grey, combined with beautiful shades of brown.

19

TRASH OR TREASURE?

Trash, of course, doesn’t quite apply when talking about household effects. However, when you are moving and taking your existing furniture with you, you often come to the conclusion that not every piece of furniture fits perfectly in your new home any longer. Turn your old furniture into someone else’s treasure by giving it a second life. That is also very sustainable! This is also what happened to Kimberley’s dining table. Her round 120-centimetre diameter dining table with four chairs around it became too small for her new, spacious living room. “Besides that, a dining table with six dining chairs would also be very nice” says Kimberley.

BACK TO BLACK

The two previous dining tables were black, and the new one will also remain black. So the choice was easily made. Starting her search, Kimberley stumbled upon stylist Annebeth’s style in the previous Dutch Interior magazine. A set where wall cabinet Eddy was combined with dining table Denzel. This was going to be it. “An oval dining table is beautiful, but I always find it a bit messy that you can’t precisely line up the dining chairs. With the pill-shaped Denzel, that problem is solved. The metal base of the dining table has the same shape as the frame of the Eddy cupboard we have. And the wooden top is the same wood as the shelves of the wall cupboard. A match made in heaven! And obviously, when you go from a four- to a six-seater dining table, new dining chairs are essential. She chose the Beau dining chair in black velvet. A beautiful combination of sturdy robust wood, balanced with classic velvet.

EVERY SHAPE THAT FITS YOU AND SUITS YOU

Finding a new dining table can be a real hunt. From round to easily add an extra chair to trendy oval or timeless rectangular. And from sturdy mango wood to classic marble or refined oak. Whatever dining table you choose, Eleonora’s dining tables will always keep you on trend!

From a chic 5-course dinner to a quick pasta. You can eat every meal in style at this round dining table with white marble top and slender black trumpet base. The dining table has an elegant appearance of its own due to its refined design. But it is the dining chairs that complete this set. Dining like a royal is the standard on these velvet dining chairs with padded back and cantilever legs. To complete this elegant setting, golden accents have been chosen, such as the lighting. Eat your heart out.

Flaunting through your living room in style is what you really do in the Eleganza living style. In a sea of rich materials such as velvet, marble and gold, you imagine yourself in luxury, almost royal, in dark blue. This elegant style is refined with a classical edge. For the real connoisseurs among us.

SOMETHING BLUE

Blue is a colour that radiates tranquillity and strength. To make sure that this powerful colour does not turn into cold, you can add some warm earthy tones.

Brown tones go well with blue because they are complementary to each other. In a colour wheel, blue and orange are directly opposite to each other, and brown is a weakened colour variant of orange. Especially in an earth tone, brown is a nice soft addition to the look.

Gold is another colour that provides warmth, a nice contrast and a good dose of glamour. Something that can never be enough within this interior design style!

LIGHT IN THE DARKNESS

A dark ambience like this is chic, romantic and sexy. It’s the kind of setting that makes you want to light some candles. But for the moments when you do not light the candles, especially at night or when it is dark outside, you need a pleasant lighting plan. As you always need to be able to light your room in a pleasing way. Therefore, in addition to the cosy candles, think about creating a good balance between atmospheric and functional lighting.

50 SHADES OF BLUE

If a chic and elegant interior style appeals to you but you find a dark blue living room too exciting, then play around with the colour palette. Choose a shade of blue with more grey in it to soften the colour, or go for a lighter colour if you don’t like dark. Even in a white room, you can create a super elegant style with the right materials, accessories and colours.

One of the gems of the SS22 collection is coffee table Levi, a design from our own hand. In this case the hand of our product designer Sharon Vreeken. She takes us through her design process and tells us everything you want to know about Levi.

THE BASIS

Organic shapes are an integral part of current interior design trends. Many items in our collection also have smooth, rounded and organic shapes. However, among the coffee tables, a variant with real organic shapes was still missing.

THE DESIGN

Sharon says “I started by sketching table tops in organic shapes. The table top was leading for the rest of the design. Once I decided on the shapes of the table tops, I started sketching the bases in 3D. I wanted to create a certain layering and made variations with separate tables that could be combined, as well as one single table. In any case, the table tops had to be able to slide over each other; that was a definite wish. In the end, the choice fell on one large coffee table with

different table tops, so you have a bit of both whilst really adding a new design to the collection”.

CHOICE OF MATERIAL

In order to accentuate the layering, we have chosen to work with glass. The table top is made of glass, so that you can still see the other two table tops in full. This keeps the design airy, which is nice with a large coffee table. Because the table has no less than three tops, you can use it in a very practical way. For example, you are able to put less attractive items on the bottom shelf, whilst a beautiful vase with flowers is best placed on the glass shelf. That way, with the large marble top remaining, you still have enough room for a table full of snacks and drinks.

NAME

All items of the Eleonora collection have a person’s name. Perhaps the observant reader already knew that. The name Levi is a derivative of levels, which refers to the layering of the tabletops.

The overstrained housing market is driving people crazy! Imagine the joy when your dream home comes along and you manage to get it. If you also manage to renovate it to make it into your dream home, you can truly say that you have won the first prize. Charis had the chance to do it. And look how it turned out! She calls her style Modern Farmhouse, abandons the black accents and goes for a light interior without letting the Scandinavian and Japandi styles come through.

35

In response to “what a beautiful house”, Charis kindly replies with “how sweet, thank you. But we’re far from finished”. On her Instagram account @charisathome and in real life, you cannot see anything but a beautiful house. Still, Charis wants to take the Modern Farmhouse style even further. “I want to make it really cosy, a real family home. Now everything is still quite clean,” says Charis. A big source of inspiration is Studio Mc-Gee. A light, calm base with white walls and natural materials. The cast floor is grey with a touch of beige, a very neutral base that allows you to go in any direction. Ideal also with kids!

A beautiful and cosy family home is the goal. A furnishing style that fits in perfectly with her current life, a family with two young children. Even though that was not the reason for choosing this style. Charis: “It is more something that I have grown into. I was bored by the steel doors and herringbone floor. Being raised in an 800-year-old farmhouse in Germany, I really started to miss the warmth. That house already had so much warmth of its own, you hardly needed to add anything.”

36

Whereas this house was very dark before the renovation, it is now wonderfully bright. Besides the use of light colours, this is also the result of opening up the various rooms in the house, allowing the light to flood in. The house itself already had much more ambiance than the newly built house where she previously lived with her family, Charis says. The house was built by two brothers, real craftsmen. The basis of the house really spoke to me, but apart from that everything inside the walls really needed to be replaced. The perfect opportunity to turn it into something completely of my own.

“In the state that we bought the house in, pretty much everything needed to be replaced. So we felt absolutely no guilt about tearing down almost everything in the house. However, we certainly didn’t demolish anything that didn’t need to be replaced,” says Charis.

“WE DID NOT FEEL GUILTY AT ALL”
37

The ideal feature of this style is its neutral basis. This gives you the opportunity to go in any direction with your interior and create a completely new look in a snap. Despite the neutral base, this style is quite distinctive due to the extensive use of wood. By using wood consistently throughout the house, the peaceful basis is strengthened. For example, the wood that is used in our kitchen is also used in the bathroom.

Her dream: to buy a house to flip together with her husband. To totally renovate it and then sell it. A real estate licence is also still on her wish list. Not to become a real estate agent but purely to acquire knowledge about houses. Not only about the styling, but for example also about the technical building aspects.

WHICH MATERIALS FIT AN INDUSTRIAL INTERIOR?

Metal, concrete, leather and ceramics. But also brass, for example, which is a more matt and sturdy variant of gold. And of course fabrics are also used in an industrial interior. Think of a corduroy rib fabric, jute or a somewhat coarser fabric. Wood is also a frequently seen material and provides a fine dose of warmth.

THE COLOUR PALETTE

With an industrial interior you quickly think of black, white, grey, brown, blue and green. However, you can also easily diversify by adding an earthy tone, such as the beige colour that you see here on the left wall. In this way you can bring your industrial interior back in line with the beige trend of the moment.

GOLD

Brass, the brushed gold, adds warmth to your interior and gives a tough and industrial house a chic edge. Brass can

easily be incorporated into your interior with the help of some accessories, for example.

DANICA

A shift has been taking place within the industrial design style for some time now. Not so much in the colours and materials, but in the shapes. Sturdy furniture is getting sleeker and softer. Whereas industrial furniture used to be quite robust and even bulky, nowadays it can all be a bit more airy. Dining room chair Danica shows that she looks great in an industrial interior with her black metal base and coarse, soft fabric. She also brings the necessary warmth with her and guarantees hours of seating pleasure. The coarse fabric has something tough to it and its colours fit perfectly in an industrial interior. The black metal base, with its slim design, suddenly becomes an all-rounder that fits into many interiors, including this industrial set.

43

Cool Cabinet

Tough steel to store your stuff. Industrial cabinets that clearly show what they stand for and are practical too. A place to store your things. With doors or drawers that reveal to no one whether you are perfectly organised or whether you are making a complete mess of it. The cabinets have plenty of room on top to present your most beautiful accessories and the TV cabinets are finished with a warm mango-wooden top.

Denise, tell me..

“In my busy life, I find it important to be able to relax at home. All those earth tones and soft shapes that are on trend these days are really a blessing for me. I do like to dress it up with lots of accessories. My house is really a place to live in, and sometimes I find today’s trends so light and calm that they are almost a bit too sterile. When I first saw Denise, from Sevn’s new collection, I knew right away. This is going to be our new sofa! Even in the light soft fabric as it stood there, Himalaya - ivory is the name of the fabric. The fabric feels as soft as it looks and it totally fits my light interior. I think the shapes are really cool too, nice and organic. Round shapes also seem to be ideal for the smaller living room, it looks more airy. Ideal for me as I don’t have a very large living room. When I am alone, I love to lay down on it to watch series, but I have also already spent hours sitting on it to have tea with friends. If you happen to have more space in your house, the options with Denise are endless”.

52

Spill the tea

Sef!

“Sweetness and cosiness are two things that are central to our home. So some extra seating wouldn’t hurt. The seating area is where we all spend most of our time as a family as well as with our friends and relatives. When we went looking for a new sofa, we had a few wishes: enough seats, a place to lie down and we like to be able to sit opposite each other. Sef pro vides us with all those needs! With the wide sofa piece on one side and the ottoman on the other, we have plenty of room to lie down and watch series and get together with family and friends. The U-shape finishes it off, so you can practically sit opposite to each other. We like that very much and find it cosy when we’re in company. We once had a long, straight couch, but with all of us sitting next to each other, it’s harder to talk and less cosy. If a hocker is ad ded to the collection, we will certainly order it as well!”.

A Scandinavian atmosphere inspired by nature. Those who expect a lot of green are wrong, because this atmosphere is inspired by the clarity and simplicity that can be found in typical Scandinavian interiors, combined with organic shapes and materials from nature. Almost heavenly, so delicate, with round shapes, soft and natural materials and light colours. To balance it out, some contrasting darker accents have been chosen, which makes the whole look well grounded.

USE OF COLOUR

Beige is here to stay. From beige to sand and from taupe to brown, you will find it all in this look. Light earth tones alternate and create a playful, airy and above all soft base. A light base that gives space to shapes and materials to provide variety, playfulness and a lively whole in a playful and subtle way.

SHAPES

Like a Scandinavian forest where no path is straight, you will find almost no straight lines in this setting. Corners are softly rounded and particularly round shapes have a prominent place in this look. These natural shapes emphasise the soft but certainly playful ambience. As the colour palette is so soft, it offers the ideal opportunity for the shapes and materials to take the stage. The setting

needs this to prevent it from becoming boring. The sofa, of course, is an unmissable example when it comes to shapes in this atmosphere. Even in this angular arrangement, there is nothing angular about it!

MATERIALS

Soft fabrics and natural materials are the main focus in this setting. The sofa in particular provides an abundance of softness and gives you a wonderful feeling of rest and relaxation. Without undermining this feeling, all sorts of natural materials have been added to the look, which are somewhat harder and therefore provide a playful contrast. Just look at the coffee tables, candlesticks and the canvas on the wall. With these items, glass, wood, linen and coarsely finished metal are being added. Because we see these somewhat tougher materials back in soft forms, they merge perfectly into the overall design.

uandSquand

What started with a side table was expanded to a range with side tables, a coffee table and candlesticks in different shapes and sizes. And these are available in three on-trend colours! Based on shapes and colours from nature, translated into a practical design. The Squand range is another design from our product designer Sharon Vreeken.

SQUARE & ROUND IS SQUAND

If you look for a side table on the Internet, you’ll be overloaded with side tables with a round tapered base topped with a round tabletop. A bit like the shape of a mushroom. Exactly because this is a commonly seen model, Sharon wanted to add her own unique shapes to it. The end result was a square top with rounded corners and different variations in the proportions of the items. The high side table, for example, looks fairly narrow, while the coffee table, for example, is much wider without being too high.

The special aspect of this range is that they have a luxurious design look due to their forms, but remain very soft and natural due to the rounded shapes. A combination that you don’t see very often. The same goes for the colours in combination with the material. Solid metal, a bit rough, covered in soft earth tones. A nicely balanced range of products that, in a subtle way, actually has a bit of everything.

WHAT’S NOT TO LOVE ABOUT IT

Such a popular side table simply asked for more. A variation on the side table, a coffee table and several candlesticks soon followed. Especially the high side table is an item you don’t see that much. It even looks a bit like a pillar. It therefore lends itself as the perfect platform for a beautiful plant or vase with a large bouquet of flowers. With its natural shape and colour, it is perfectly suitable for the eye-catcher you place on it without being distracting.

The entire range is available in three trend colours. All the items can be combined perfectly together. Mix different colours or go for a calm setting in one colour. All items in this range are available separately and can be mixed and matched to suit your own taste.

65
66

I can hear you thinking, “Mix & Match is so outdated”. The term has been used so much that you might have had enough of it by now. But it is something that you probably still use in your interior, whether you notice it or not. It would also be quite radical to renew your entire interior every six months. Even for the real interior fanatics among us! Probably, and fortunately, it’s more a case of painting the wall in a new trendy colour, replacing a cushion or adding a candlestick to your collection. So there you go, adding new items and secretly mixing and matching with your current interior.

67

AND NEGATIVE IS POSITIVE

At Mattz you will find items that are perfect to add to any interior. They are often handmade, unique and in such a different style that you can easily add them to your interior. A case of opposites attract. So no doubt about whether it fits in your interior or not. Mattz makes your interior unique. It gives your interior that natural and tough touch, and makes your interior even more exciting!

NEGATIVE
68

HOW IT’S DONE

If you feel anxious to mix a different style into your interior, then start with some accessories. The lanterns hanging above the sideboard are a good example. The weathered metal has a warm almost brown colour which mixes perfectly with all the earth tones that are on trend these days. Mattz’s wooden stools and olive boxes are also ideal for adding a different style to your interior in an easily accessible way. If you like to distinguish yourself from the rest, go for a large cabinet, table or real eye-catcher like this panel with mirror. The authentic accents in the glass and woodwork make the look unique and bring the chic velvet swivel chair a little more into balance.
